Stayed here for the August long weekend. Check in took a quite nice.
Breakfast staff were very efficient and good selection of food
Cons:
Bed lamps were directly under your face.
Two single beds were put together to form a queen bed and these beds kept separating and was very uncomfortable for a couple. Why?
Toilet flushing was broken and had to be pressed again to stop.
The pool was ice cold as well as the valley of waves. Practically nobody could swim and this was extremely disappointing despite the warm weather.
Most people were disappointed and it’s strange that no heating of the water was done for all the guests.
The Cabanas pool side has club music playing very loud the entire day and you couldn’t really relax there.
No disposable cups or water in the rooms as well as so sanitizers

The hotel is in a stunning setting on the edge of a lake and with 2 swimming pools for guest. There is a small shop for snacks and drinks along with vending machines for when the shop is closed.
The rooms are specious with picture picture windows, though for some rooms these look straight onto the public corridor, so leaving them open is impossible if you want privacy.
There is a shortage of water and guests are asked to not flush the toilets unless really necessary; as a consequence the bathrooms smell slightly of urine. I would not recommend even cleaning your teeth with the water from the taps.
Breakfasts in the open plan dining room have a good variety of food with omlette and eggs being cooked to order at the egg stations. Persuading the waiter to come to your table to get coffee or tea is more difficult and getting a second cup was unheard of during our 5 days there.
The hotel does not have a restaurant for evening meals and the bar closes at 6pm. However, it is only a short walk (about 5 minutes up hill) to the centre of Sun City where are are plenty of bars and restaurants. There is a curtesy bus but I never felt the need to use that.
The Centre of Sun City is also where the man-made beach and wave pool is along with other entertainments including the casino. The game drives around the Pilanesberg National Park also leave from this central hub of Sun City.
There are wild animals aorund, baboons, cranes, peacocks etc, so don't be complacent with your possessions -Baboons will help themselves and they are seriously large animals.
This hotel has lots to do for children - though we didn't have kids with us, we could see that they were well catered for.

We came here for a 5 night break in February 2020. Check in was easy and it was a short walk to our lake front room from reception.
The complex is absolutely lovely and I would definitely recommend spending slightly more to get the lake front room - it's beautiful to wake up to in the morning and you have your own sun loungers out the front if you don't fancy sitting by the pool!!
We don't particularly spend a lot of time in our room as we go out and do lots of activities but the room itself is absolutely fine if not slightly on the small side. We were just 2 adults so I'm not sure how families manage in these rooms! They've updated the rooms from a decor point of view which is nice, they had a good modern feel to them. It's a pity that the shower and toilet are practically in the same room as the bedroom but I'm assuming that is just how the rooms were designed! Other than that, the rooms were cleaned on a daily basis which was lovely.
We basically came midweek so it was fairly quiet during the week - breakfast was never a issue for us. They had so much food to choose from so there is something for everyone. We didn't know if they opened up the kitchen and dining hall for dinner in more popular months as it seemed a shame that they just used the area for breakfast and that is it. I'm sure lots of people would love a buffet dinner if it is as good as the breakfast!
We had lunch as much as we could at the pool bar - the food was great and the service was ok! We only had one day where our waitress didn't seem like she was on the same planet as everyone else and then at the end actually stood, pointed at the tips at the bottom of the receipt and basically asked if she could have a tip but as the service that time was a miss the answer was unfortunately no. It might just be worth telling the staff that it isn't appropriate to flat out ask the guests for tip, if they haven't been given a tip there is probably a reason for it.
Overall we had a great time at the Cabanas, the rooms were nice, the staff were helpful and if we ever came back we would probably choose the hotel again.

Sun city has a great choice of hotels. This one you should simply just avoid, unless it is the last available. It is the closest to the entrance and very easy to find. Staff were on hand to assist in getting our luggage out of the boot, and instructed me to park anywhere I want. The hotel was very close to the welcome centre- A five minute walk or you can take the complimentary shuttle. We drove our rental there since my mum has knee problems. The rooms aren't what you would call big. We booked the cabanas thinking we would get villas or something remotely similar to villas, but we didn't. The rooms were very small, and got pretty cold at night. Luckily the next night we had booked the palace, a much better choice.
Breakfast was described as "A full english is served from 6:30 to 10:30" It literally was JUST a full english.
Anyways, we sort of were just slightly upset with this hotel, Slightly below expectations since in Asia you would get a lot better quality for the price paid, but, as the locals say "This is Africa."

We visited this hotel for school midterm break. We were a family of 9. We had booked 5 rooms together under one booking number. Despite the group booking we had 3 different areas for the family. Check-in was terrible and the lady behind the desk had such bad manners and a bad attitude.
On the first night my sister woke up to noise and walked across to her son’s room to find him sleeping and strangers standing in his room. This family has been given the same access card as him and reception has not loaded his checkin.
The following day we were woken up to housekeeping barging into our room and putting the lights on at 8am without knocking.
Staff need better training, to respect privacy and have better etiquette towards the staff.
We would not return here or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Definitely not the sun city of past
With all other hotels being booked, we opted to stay at the cabanas for 1 night: what a mistake.
1) checked in to be allocated rooms that staff are still busy making up. The rooms assigned us was still being cleaned. The staff walk around in their socks in the room. The shoes are outside the door. Then we get told it’s fine it will be re-sanitised.
It is definitely NOT fine. We get given then room next door, which the same lady with no shoes was in.
2) we were then “upgraded”!
We were tired and wanted to go for a swim and saw that the duvet had stains and filth on it. We went out and said we will fix it later as we already wasted our day. When we returned to a room with dirt on the duvet covers we said we would shower and then inform the reception. There was NO hot water. We again had to speak to a manager to resolve this and again move to a 3rd room: carrying luggage, packing and unpacking. We wasted over 30 minutes of our time twice in 1 day.
Unacceptable.
Surely you need to invest the time for maintenance and checking of rooms, not putting on dirty linen and generally a sterile environment of not cleaning rooms in dirty socks, if you want to get people to visit your establishment.

We visited the Cabanas Hotel at Sun City for a weekend away.
The Hotel is great for families offering a lovely swimming pool and easy access to other facilities at the Sun City Resort.
Unfortunately due to the lockdown most of the facilities were not open yet, although the Sun City website mentioned that it was indeed open. That was quite disappointing as our expectation was that we could do a few activities. We ended up driving all the way to Sun City and spending a lot of money to only be at the Hotel swimming pool.
It was the first open weekend for the Hotel and the Staff did a fantastic job coping with the influx of people on Friday afternoon.
All the people we engaged with was very friendly and told us that they missed us.
The room was very basic and although we requested a Lake View Family Room we got a room very far away from the lake.
People next to us were smoking in their room, although the entire hotel was non-smoking. We did raise it with the Reception. The only solution they could come up with was to move us. It was late at night and we have young children with us.
The fridge in our room also did not work.
Overall the experience was average. I am not sure if I will return to the hotel.

I was not happy with my stay at all this time around.
I indicated during my booking that I will be coming for my annual anniversary week to suncity with my wife.
Last year when I indicated this, I had nice warm romantic setup in my room with a champagne gift.
This year when I reached reception, the lady asks me if I want an upstairs or downstairs room. I already knew now that my request was not taken into account, considering I booked more than a month in advance.
I said Il have a downstairs room, as I like the varenda.
The lady said the downstairs room is facing the parking lot so rather she gives me an upstairs room.
I agreed and when I got to my room, it got worst.
She allocated myself and my wife a room with 2 SINGLE beds, that also faces the parking lot.
The staff took an hour to change this, which was a frustrating experience.
Not satisfied.

We stayed over for five nights. The room is quite small for a family of four but was manageable. Towels and bedding were changed on a regular basis throughout our stay.
Breakfast had a big variety but didn’t change at all so it became a bit tiresome for five mornings in a row. Separate vegetarian grills for eggs to be fried which was great.
If you are looking for a festive atmosphere and want to keep kids occupied, then cabanas is a great option. It’s close to lots of activities such as water sports, trampoline, kids jungle gym area, grass area to play ball games, putt putt, Segway, tram, motor track for kids.
Cabanas had the best holiday atmosphere compared to the other hotels with a dj at the bar and some competitions. Kids were allowed to play with inflatable toys in the main pool which was welcome as well. Shallow pool for younger kids was close by.
Shuttle departs every twenty minutes but it takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the food courts.
We would definitely stay there again.
Recommendations for improvements:-
Hairdryer needs attention. Would not work after a while.
Try and add something different to the breakfast menu perhaps every third day.
For the price and duration of stay, it would have been great to receive complimentary bottled water for the room.

If you are looking for a festive atmosphere and want to keep kids occupied, then cabanas is a great option. It’s close to lots of activities such as water sports, trampoline, kids jungle gym area, grass area to play ball games, putt putt, Segway, tram, motor track for kids.
Cabanas had the best holiday atmosphere compared to the other hotels with a dj at the bar and some competitions. Kids were allowed to play with inflatable toys in the main pool which was welcome as well. Shallow pool for younger kids was close by.
Shuttle departs every twenty minutes but it takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the food courts.
We would definitely stay there again.
Recommendations for improvements:-
Hairdryer needs attention. Would not work after a while.
Try and add something different to the breakfast menu perhaps every third day.
For the price and duration of stay, it would have been great to receive complimentary bottled water for the room.

A great special for affordable, comfortable, accommodation. The air-conditioning in the rooms effective but very noisy, recommend ear plugs or switching off.
Unfortunately the breakfast is one of the worst I've experienced, poor selection, cold and tasteless, rather head to the Wimpy or Spur in the convention centre.
The downside of any Sun Internationally resort is their over priced drinks and foods, always check the independent restaurants, for example The Brewmaster in the Valley of the Waves, will bankrupt you with tasteless overpriced food, however, you are a short walk away from superb franchise operations in the convention centre.... Or pack lots of Tupperware 😁
