I had really high expectations after seeing MomDuty's YouTube video of their stay here, but everything about this property exceeded my expectations. The staff were so attentive and friendly, and I really appreciated the extra effort they went through to remember personal details and to provide assistance throughout our stay. The room was massive (we booked the twin with private onsen, and it was over 700 sq ft), and it was the perfect place to enjoy a cozy, peaceful stay in Hakone. The dinner and breakfast were incredible as well. Could not recommend this property highly enough if you are planning a trip to Hakone!

This is a beautiful place with great service. The private Onsens are amazing and very relaxing. The traditional ryokan setting near Mt. Fuji, the clothing and rooms are very comfortable. However, we are vegetarians and prior to coming we were assured proper vegetarian food would be available during the breakfast and dinner times. Their version of vegetarian food is raw vegetables and steamed tofu. My wife and I were basically hungry for 24 hours until we reached our next destination. Highly recommended, but if you are vegetarian, take this as your warning with lack of food.

I am certain that this is the best onsen resort in Japan. Japan is a country renowned for their high-class service, but this resort raised the standard even further. Their world-class services are extremely impressive. The building is well-preserved, given that it contains a rich history of more than 350 years. Their breakfast and dinner was not overly fancy, but it's splendidly delicious. The room is clean and cozy. You won't be disappointed staying in this hotel. Trust me!!!

This place was AMAZING. I've been back for about a week now and still cannot stop thinking about this place. Hospitality here was top notch and everything you would hope for at a Japanese onsen ryukan. We had a great private onsen with our room, but they had a public one that was also just as good. There was a Thai woman there (name was Rappa), who was also very lovely and offered great suggestions for us. Too bad we were only there for one night! I definitely plan to go back again.

This hotel is incredible. The service is 5 stars, the natural hot spring spa is so cool, and the rooms are beautiful. This was the traditional Japanese hotel I wanted to experience. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Matuzakaya Honten is a ryokan with a long history.
Appon arrival just outside the premise they had someone come greet us.
We were taken to the main lobby rest area where we were brought tea and a small treat.
The service throughout the stay was fantastic.
They have both private (4x) and public onsen (1x for each gender)
They also have a free drink area with juice, water, beer on tap, sake, wine, and some other drinks.
Overall the experience was really relaxing and the service was top notch.

The stay here was an amazing experience! We visited on our honeymoon and can’t speak more highly of this ryokan. Staff were so pleasant and the room was spectacular! The private onsen was very relaxing and well maintained. The amenities and communal spaces were warm and inviting. The food was delicious and unique for each meal. We highly recommend treating yourself to the ambiance at Matsuzakaya Honten!

I only have good words about this accommodation. It is an authentic ryokan where you will totally disconnect and immerse yourself in Japanese traditions. It has a free drinks service that is very good and the private onsen is wonderful. Highlighting the kindness and professionalism of all the members of the service, I make a special mention to Suman who attended us during dinner and made it an unforgettable experience. In short, everything was great.

Perfect and relaxing stay, with private onsen.
Very well organised and lovely diner and Japanese breakfast included in the stay.
Recommended to end your trip in Japan to get fully relaxed. Too bad we didn't book another night.

Extremely beautiful location with very professional staff who helped us with everything. Dining experience was incredible. Food was delicious. Very peaceful and quiet location. True Japanese experience. was there with my wife and two daughters we would definitely go back again if given the opportunity beautiful winding road up into the mountains to get to the Ryokan.

Staff was extremely helpful from the moment. We got there until the moment we left. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. Wish we could’ve stayed much longer than we did.

May I visit your hotel with kids of 4?

The hotel is equipped with a beautiful play room, but I personally do not see the environment suitable for children so small! Absolutely personal opinion from customers and, try to contact the structure. Maybe there's a baby-sitter service.

Is there a kotatsu (warming legs table) in every room, even with private onsen? Thank you

In our room there was and it was really comfortable! Honestly I can not answer because I did not know about the other rooms. Try to contact the structure. I'm sorry
