In the middle of the forest you suddenly come across this amazing modern museum full of great art works- literally in the middle of nowhere. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the best museums I have ever been at. I really loved the contemporary pieces from the Japan artists. Many of those were about nature.

We visited here to see, listed as Masterpieces, paintings by Renoir, the Woman in a Lace hat was compelling, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Cezanne and Monet whose obsession in later life with ponds and waterlilies represented by two beautiful examples – the balance of exhibits consisted of paintings by Western and Japanese artists One exhibit was little weird, a Four Poster Bed covered in hearts – as with many of the attractions here hard to understand on the expensive as side at yen 1800 pp

This museum is a little hard to get to but the bus chugs by on a regular schedule. The building itself is a piece of art from the entrance to the interior with interesting angles and lighting. We enjoyed the temporary rotating exhibit and the Japanese artists, as well as the painting by the western masters which included a nice Van Gogh river scene. We had lunch in their cafeteria which was delicious – beef stew and potatoes with a rich gravy, a crisp salad, and bread. They had intriguing choices for desert with some linked to the current exhibits!

I didn't expect the POLA Museum to reach the levels of Impressionist collections that I frequently visit, but I did expect that the special exhibitions would be worthwhile. I have to say that I have never seen Bonnard so poorly represented as in the current exhibit of "Interior Visions".

The permanent collection was a better representation of works. Cafe was relaxing as was the outdoor nature walk.

I don't think I would return unless I was assured that the temporary exhibitions were superior to what I viewed.

Visited with a friend. Wonderful quiet time surrounded by art. Had a nice outdoor path with large artwork against the backdrop of trees. Parking fee for each entrance, next t it's entrance.

A nice restaurant within its ground an accessible without museum ticket too. There is a separate cafe in the lounge area as well.

The building itself is worth a visit. This is not meant to detract from the interesting, worthwhile exposition of modern art.
You can actually walk to it from Gora train station.

This is the second time I’ve visited the Pola museum . The exhibits rotate so there’s always something new .A fantastic collection of impressionist painting ,
The food is good in the restaurant and there’s a great trail around the woodland grounds .

A real surprise in a rural location. Fascinating exhibition comparing great artists and contemporaries who worked in a similar style. Matisse, Picasso, Dali, Bonnard, .
But best of all was “citadines” by celine hougelmont . A blue pool with bowls floating, touching each other and making surreal sounds. Che k it you tube. Beautiful.
HAkone is worth a visit.

Touring the Hakone area in the pouring rain, we had no idea what a gem we would find in this stunning art museum. An interesting mix of impressionists (Monet, Renoir, Manet), a little bit of Picasso and a lot of contemporary Japanese art. The building itself has been constructed very cleverly in the side of a hill. This is really worth a visit - interesting space with wonderful art.
