I booked this hotel as a surprise and took a risk as didn't find out too much about it. (Booked on hotel direct). I got an extremely good deal which made me apprehensive about the hotel, but I was proven wrong.

Location: When we arrived we was surprised how close the hotel was to the city centre. Right next to the metro station with lots of little cafes around. Was also a 2 minute walk to Las Ramblas which we went to most nights. Even though it was on a main road, we felt very safe walking to and from the hotel.

Rooms: The room was much larger and nicer than expected. It had a safe which you paid for but only around 3euros a night and also a mini bar.

Staff: The staff were extremely helpful, gave us free maps and told us where to visit and how to get around. We paid for a T10 metro ticket which was 10euros for 10 single trips which worked out well. We had cleaners every day giving us clean towels and everyone was very friendly.

TIP: Get the aerobus (bus stop right near hotel) to the airport rather than getting the metro. Although it looks easy and cheap, we found great difficulty and every train worker said it is a complicated journey. We got the aerobus from the airport to the hotel which took around 20 minutes and was only 5euros each.

Absolutely loved this hotel, was in perfect location for a city centre break.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days in the beginning of June and were very happy with our stay. It is situated at an excellent location just a couple of minutes away from the University square and the metro station by the same name. The rooms are biggish enough that you would expect from a hotel in the centre of the city. The neighbourhood is safe and just 10 mins walk from the Ramblas.

The usual rates do not include the breakfast but in my opinion, it is worth paying € 6 for the breakfast since you would end up paying far more outside for the same stuff. The best thing of this hotel was its free wi-fi that actually works at a good speed. Either most hotels charge for wi-fi or if it's free, the speed is usually less than dial-up! But here, it was excellent and we could check out a lot of things such as sites to visit, reviews, restaurants, etc over the Net. If you don't happen to have a laptop/iPad, there is also a small computer room near the reception just for the use of customers where you can check-in online and ask the reception to print away your passes.

The staff was very helpful although not very cheery. We never received a greeting whenever we crossed the reception but whenever we approached them, they were very nice and tried to solve our issues.

Our arrival was delayed 24 hours by Iberia Airline's mechanical difficulties (don't get me started on Iberia...) and although our transportation contractor got our messages about delays, the hotel alleged not to have received any notification and cancelled our two-room, two-night pre-paid reservation.
They would not refund the unused night nor give a credit to be used to extend our stay, and their attitude was that they were doing us a favor by giving us one room for one night - but our luck changed when they sent two of us right next door to the Sunotel Central - which was a four star hotel for the same price and MUCH nicer! Better rooms, better bathrooms, better amenities, better staff, better attitude!
When we returned to Barcelona after our tour, we stayed additional nights at Sunotel and loved it!

PROS
Location: Very centrally located, near the metro, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and Las Ramblas
Price: Price was very reasonable. I paid 85 Euros/night during high season.
Very clean: The lobby, hallways, the room, and the bathroom were very clean.
Friendly service: The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable and they answered all my questions with a smile.
Air Conditioning: It worked very well! The room was nice and cool.
TV: Flat-screen TV with many local channels.

CONS
Very simple, no frills room. My "single" room had a twin-size bed, only one pillow, and only one towel. I don't understand why the hotel doesn't provide extra pillows or towels in the room for guests who may need it.
Position of TV: To watch TV, I had to lay down in bed and tilt my neck to the right. There is no chair in the room.

Overall: This is a nice no-frills hotel in a great location.. The room is very simple, so I would only use it to sleep at night, but I would not want to spend my day "hanging out" in this room.

I would recommend this hotel for couples, individuals or families looking for a base from which to explore the city. The hotel is a relatively short distance from the airport and a 20 euro taxi journey will take you there.

Our room was lovely with comfortable beds. There was a very clean and well equipped bathroom with lots of hot water and a good shower, however the bath was very small! Despite a tiny balcony onto the busy Gran Via, there was no traffic noise. The maid service was excellent and all the hotel staff were delightful throughout our stay, answering all our questions and making excellent recommendations. The only down side was the noise from building work which was a little irritating, however it did not really disrupt our stay - we were out and about by late morning anyway. There are no coffee and tea making facilities in the rooms so if you have a mini kettle you might want to take it.

We did not eat breakfast in the hotel, instead we would recommend the Cafe Dore (go out of the hotel, turn right, and it is almost next door. They were really friendly and have a menu bursting with bocadillos (french bread sandwiches), meat and cheese platters and English and Spanish breakfast options.

The hotel is a perfect location for an art-based trip to Barcelona. It's a short walk to the Universitat metro station, on Line 2, which will take you very quickly to the Ramblas (in one direction) and to Montjuic (in the other). It's also all well within walking distance if you want to wander and enjoy the streets.

Great hotel near Placa Universitat and the top of La Ramblas. Great location - 2 mins walk to nearest Metro stop & 5 mins to Placa Catalunya.

Room was spotlessly clean, very smart and with lovely bathroom & small balcony. Despite being on bustling street, quiet at night too.

Hotel staff very helpful, spoke excellent English. Good breakfast with wide choice of food available.

Good location, clean rooms and very comfortable beds. Quiet at night.
Lacked any facilities for making tea or coffee and rather on the pricey side for what we got. Beware, at the time of booking we were told the price included breakfast but when we arrived we were told that the price did not include breakfast and were charged 12 euros each for it pushng the price up even further.

Stayed for 3 nights for a short break with my girlfriend and would highly recommend the Caledonian. Great location, very efficient check in and out (a little late checking out but it was no problem) All the staff we encountered were very friendly, polite and immaculately presented.
The room was serviced to a very high standard every day. Breakfast was great - fantastic scrambled egg!!
Pretty much everywhere is within walking distance of the hotel, if you like walking :-) And some great places to eat nearby.

Would definitely stay again.

This was our second stay at the hotel, and I have given it 5* again. This time, a few months before our stay, we requested one of the larger rooms with the huge terraces, with fantastic views of the city and a table and chairs to help you enjoy them. The hotel very kindly granted us one. As last time, the check in was quick, all the staff on reception desk are very polite and professional, as are the cleaning staff.

The hotel is in a superb location, the Aerobus drops off about a two minute walk away at the Universatat Metro station, and its less than a ten minute walk to Platya Catalunya. We will stay here again.

We stayed for three nights.... Every time I asked the staff for something they shrugged their shoulders and made excuses - - it took 2 nights to get an extra pillow... The. management might want to rethink their staff!!!

Hi, I don't remember an iron in the room, but they can probably supply one. They do have a laundry service. As Yas46 suggested why not give them a ring, they all seemed to speak good English +34 93 453 02 00.
