The Gore hotel, nestled close to the Royal Albert Hall, is celebrated for its historic allure and prime location, with many guests charmed by its classic decor and inviting bar. However, the rooms, while rich in character, have drawn criticism for their size and occasional maintenance issues. While the hotel's cleanliness and professional service are highlights, some guests have expressed concerns over the value, citing room discomfort and service inconsistencies. Despite this, the hotel's atmosphere and strategic location still manage to win over numerous travelers.

We stayed for one night as the location was convenient for the Royal Albert Hall. The hotel is comfortable and staff are pleasant and helpful.
We ate in the newly opened restaurant which was excellent. We had the pre theatre dinner, the choice was good with food freshly prepared. Attentive staff and reasonably priced.

For the last night of our Great British Christmas Adventure we stayed at The Gore. I’m not a huge fan of these Kensington based hotels however its location is very pleasant I would say. Particularly wonderful for a relaxing weekend right next to Kensington Gardens and the nearby Royal Albert Hall. However, for exploring London it’s not ideal as the walk to the nearest tube is quite some distance. Alternatively, the bus does stop almost in front of the door. They “have” parking however that’s not quite accurate. There’s on street parking which is quite expensive and then the car park they offer is a 7-minute or so walk away. It did however work out a little bit more reasonable than some of the other car parks in the area so that‘s a positive and it’s very safe.

The hotel looks charming from the outside especially at Christmas and very welcoming. We arrived a little early and were helped splendidly by the doorman. Fortunately we were immediately allowed to go to our room which was a bonus. The rooms are nice and certainly have an air of theatrics. They’re well appointed and were already kitted out ready for our arrival. There’re lots of nice touches such as gorgeous Penhaligons toiletries. I also appreciated an automatic turn down service. I think the highlight of our room was the bathtub/shower which was in its own alcove within the bathroom. The rooms were not huge, nor were the beds and in general the proportions of the hotel are petit. There was a lobby area with sofas and a roaring fire, but again quite small in size.

The restaurant of the hotel is highly acclaimed, but for example this was not highlighted in any of the information sent post booking which is a shame as for example my friends had no idea. These areas of the hotel and other in house possibilities unfortunately were neither explained at check in.

It was an original place to spend a night and service was very good. A small oversight was immediately rectified and I found the concierge particularly excellent.

A random tip is that you will find Blue Plaques on many of the surrounding buildings commemorating a wide array of illustrious people who lived in those buildings. Very close by you will find 28 Hyde Park Gate which is where the great Sir Winston Churchill passed away.

As I said for a night or a weekend I think it’s a good option.

Thank you for your great review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Gore Hotel. We are glad that you enjoyed the quiet location. Please note the nearest underground is about 10 minutes walk and if you choose "South Kensington" I dare say that it is a nice walk towards the Natural History Museum and the V&A. We are indeed located near Hyde Park and major touristic attractions. The Gore is a boutique Hotel and therefore cosy and welcoming, we have 50 bedrooms and we do not have a big lobby area. Your constructive feedback in regard to the restaurant information has been well noted too. Looking forward to your next visit! Kind Regards, Cristina R. There were many things we loved about The Gore but without a doubt, our favourite thing was the warm welcome and service we received on check-in. All of the staff were kind, friendly and helpful.

The Gore is a hotel with charm. It has a quintessentially old England hotel feel with beautiful attention to detail in both the decor and the features within the hotel. Staying around Christmas time we got to enjoy the beautiful Christmas trees and decorations.

We spent time in the bar and had breakfast within the hotel, for both we received excellent service and great quality food. Even though there is no buffet breakfast there is still a large choice of continental and A La Carte breakfast options, everything was served fresh and hot. There is a beautiful, ornate library within the hotel where you can enjoy beverages and food too.

Our room was small (as we only stayed one night) however it was well equipped and offered a turn-down service. The location is central within walking distance to many landmarks however very quiet. We stayed on the top floor and got to enjoy the views of London.

We would absolutely stay at The Gore again!

Interesting quirky hotel but tired in places - room decor needs a revamp. Stained walls. Marked carpet (even though it looked fairly new). Chipped paint on furniture.

Room layout also a bit bizarre as the room we had was actually quite small really - very limited storage space (I’ve had more storage option in a Travelodge). The air con worked well though and the turndown service a welcome touch, with fresh water delivered to the room (we also asked for fresh milk that was kindly delivered in a jug and we kept in the fridge).

Shower decent enough but it was over a bath which itself was very narrow and quite a high step over to get into it.

Friendly staff. We had room service one evening and the food reasonably priced (fish goujons and fries) to be fair.

Excellently located for Hyde Park and Royal Albert Hall plus the big London museums. Short walk further to some retail, Ken High St, tube etc.

Not sure I’d stay again - if I did I’d have to pay more for a larger room.

Stayed here just the one night and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised given a few negative reviews re decor etc. Our classic room was small and a little noisy being first floor and facing the road, but the price for the location was extremely reasonable and we knew what we were booking. Room was in excellent shape, complimentary water with a top up for turn down an excellent touch. Food is indeed limited although the Cod Goujons in the Bar were fresh and a huge portion again sensibly priced. Drinks on the other hand are expensive. Overall this is a perfect base for an overnighter or very short break, and we will return if the need arises.

The Gore Hotel is located right next to Kensington Gardens and very close to the Royal Albert Hall. This a unique hotel, different from the normal chains and comes with special character and service. On arrival for our 3 night stay, the porter grabbed our bags. Check in was quick, personable and I knew straight away this hotel would be good. The room was small, but functional, and very clean. The features really made the hotel feel like a home from home. Turn down service each evening was a nice touch. The staircase, historic rooms and pictures are all there to be enjoyed, and leaves plenty of areas to relax in away from the room if you wish. Breakfast was about the best I have had in a hotel, attentive staff, that even personally take you from the reception to the breakfast room, to the serving staff, fantastic. Freshly cooked food to an excellent quality and a big choice of popular dishes. We had an inclusive breakfast so we was surprised to see a service charge for each day but the £4.95 was worth the perfect service displayed. The cocktail bar really nice, with the same attentive service, but can get busy and you may have a short wait to get inside. The wait was worth it. Drinks are expensive but taste amazing. Some very small issues, the WI-FI was slow throughout the stay and sometimes did not work at all. And the restaurant is closed until next year. We would have loved to try dinner here. It’s the staff that make this hotel so special, relaxing and home from home vibe. We will definitely return. BeLu.

The Gore, perfectly located for the Royal Albert Hall, premium shopping, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and London museums. This was a repeat visit for us since last year and we paid an upgrade to a superior deluxe room. How did our repeat visit fare? Check in was not quick or personable. Despite providing early check in details in response to a Gore email, we were still asked for the same answers on check in. The check in agent did not welcome us back as repeat visitors, despite a personable card left for us in the room. Wrong information given regarding a late check out and laundry return times. A contrast in welcome. Now, the room was amazing, spacious, and clean. All the usual amenities and comforts you would get with a premium London hotel. Breakfast was just perfect, remember that inclusive breakfast rates will be minus service charges added to the bill at the end of the stay. Food was fresh, ample and premium. The breakfast staff are the most friendly and helpful I have experienced at a breakfast service. The concierge staff are also extremely helpful. We would have had dinner here, but the restaurant remains closed for lunch and dinner since COVID times. We had lunch delivered to our room on one occasion, tasty and fresh. The 24 hour food availability shown in the room service menu is not correct, the chef had gone home. A late housekeeping service was provided on one night and was most welcomed. Despite being offered late check out as part of our Expedia premium status, we still received a phone call before check out time and then an apology for forgetting our late check out offering. This is a special hotel with a majority of positives. However, reception improvements could be made as service here appears disjointed compared with other aspects of service. I am sure we will be back to try again. BeLu December 2022.

Absolutely lovely welcome from the lovely lady on reception, should have got your name. It's also a fabulous entrance to the hotel. We had room 106. Lovely very clean room (no hairs visible), not the biggest room, but everything you need including robes and slippers, T&C, nice sized Samsung TV, fridge, safe, air con and a radiator. The mini bar is just so overpriced, £5 for a kitkat anyone?
Bathroom had bath and rain forest shower over and unlike so many other hotels, lashings of hot water and the bath filled sooooo quickly. There are quality bathroom products from Penhaligons (Blenheim Bouquet).
Food at the Hotel looks quite reasonably priced, but there was a note saying the dining room was not open for Lunch or Dinner.
Now the downsides that makes this a 4.6/7 not a 5. Firstly in the bathroom the mirror is not big enough, not is there a magnifying mirror option. There were also three cracked tiles in the bathroom, not what you would expect from this hotel. There was only two milk with the T&C, although these were topped up after reference to reception. There is some wear and tear in the hotel, the only major bit we noticed was on the stairs. And the final gripe, I do not expect to have to book seats in the hotel bar!! It is clear the bar caters to the Royal Albert Hall crowd, which means that hotel guests cannot access the bar as and when. We were staying to see the Cirque du Soleil at the RAH, so really disappointed about the bar. We did get a drink in the bar, one other thing to note, not that many beers on offer, and nothing on tap, all bottles.
I really do love this establishment, superb place to stay for the RAH and is still highly recommended, but just cannot give it a 5 due to the above gripes. I would also reiterate, superb staff!!

My wife booked tickets to the Royal Albert Hall so we made a short break of it and stayed at the Gore. Excelent location 2 mins walk.
The hotel has character and a charm but as all ways the staff make up the total hotel experience.
No specific hotel parking but the concierge directed us to a local managed private residential car park a short walk away who were very helpful and relaxed.
We didnt party in the bar like the Rolling Stones but enjoyed the atmosphere. in the morning my favourite breakfast, Haddock, spinach and poached eggs. Overall an excellent overnight break.

The Gore has a convenient location for the Royal Albert Hall, the Hotel is very narrow and the room we had on the 4th floor very small with a queen bed and separate shower and toilet, I guess for a hotel dating back to 1892 you get what you expect with the décor, £400+ for this tiny room was very expensive and I struggle to see how you can possibly qualify the cost. There are no modern facilities such as USB connections or very many plug sockets at all, there is no full length mirror which would have be useful for someone who is getting ready for an event. It really is in serious need of an update. The shower was not very inviting with black staining which I can only assume was mould. The TV only worked on some channels as most just pixelated due to a poor signal, this was small and stuck in an alcove with a difficult viewing angle. The food in Bar 190 was pretty average and again expensive. We didn't dare touch the mini fridge as £5 for a KitKat and £15 for a can of wine was just extortionate. Wi-Fi is important for a lot of business travellers and the Hotel was struggling at around 2mbps, which at this day and age is archaic, it was mentioned in another review back in April that this was due an upgrade but clearly nothing has martialised in the past 3 months. Tipping is mandatory it seems, the service was average at best, my evening meal servette was damp and the waiter was cleaning my cutlery with it as he walked to my table.
Can't really recommend this hotel even with it's location to the RAH, there are better options a little further out.

Dear JPManuel67, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We appreciate your comments about our convenient location but we regret to hear that certain aspects of your experience did not meet your expectations. It is such as shame that you did not make any of this dissatisfaction known to us during your stay as we could and would have done everything possible to turn this experience around for you! We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the size of your room. As a historic hotel dating back to 1892, we understand that our rooms may not have the same dimensions as modern accommodations. However, as I understand you booked a Classic Room and as our entry-level bedroom, these do tend to be smaller, but compared to other similar London hotels, they are a good size. We strive to provide comfortable and well-appointed rooms for our guests and I would strongly recommend you to book a Deluxe or Junior Suite on your next stay as these offer a lot more space and comfort. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as we continue to enhance our offerings. We understand your concerns about the lack of modern facilities in the room, such as USB connections and plug sockets. We recognize the importance of these amenities in today's technology-driven world, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We are actively exploring options to update and improve our rooms to better meet the needs of our guests. We apologise for the issues you encountered with the shower and the TV. Cleanliness and functionality are of the utmost importance to us, and we apologise for falling short in these areas. We will investigate the matter promptly and take appropriate action to address the black staining in the shower, which we believe to be tarnishing in the material, rather than moulds. We also check daily to ensure that all TVs are functioning properly. Regarding the pricing, we understand your concerns. Our rates are competitive within the London market, taking into account our central location, the huge demand currently in the city and the overall experience we strive to provide. However, we appreciate your feedback and will review our pricing structure to ensure that it aligns with the value we offer. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the WiFi speed. We recognise that a reliable and fast internet connection is crucial for our guests, especially business travelers. We have noted your comments and as you have already mentioned we are working towards improving the WiFi infrastructure, with a new, state-of-the-art system to provide a more satisfactory experience in the future. This was originally due to be complete in March, but like many things in this post-Covid world has been subject to delays due to various hardware shortages and shipping issues. We are extremely pleased that as writing, engineers are on-site doing a final installation, so all going to plan our new WiFi should be up-and-running, this week! Your feedback regarding the service you received in Bar 190 and the damp servette is concerning and most unusual! We pride ourselves on delivering attentive and professional service, and we apologise for any shortcomings you experienced. We will address this matter with our team and reiterate the importance of maintaining high service standards at all times. We appreciate your candid feedback and regret that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. We will use your comments constructively to make necessary improvements and enhance our guests' experience. Should you give us another opportunity in the future, we would be delighted to provide you with a more satisfying stay. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and we wish you all the best with your future travels. With warmest regards, J-J Pollak Hotel Manager

Nice area - mostly residential - a stone's throw from the Albert Hall. Regarding Tube Stations - you have a couple of choices - Gloucester Road (which we used) - 15 minute walk to the hotel or South Kensington - which will take the same length of time. Bar can be busy. It's relatively small, so best try and reserve a table if you can. Staff really friendly. Rooms were quiet. It's an old hotel, but that's what we like - more character. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy.
