This is the 1st time we visited Barcelona. On arrival at the airport we rang the hotel to ask which train we should catch to get to the hotel. We were advised to get the bus as it was much quicker than the train and also at what stop we should disembark. This was extremely useful.

We enjoyed this hotel as the staff at the front desk were always available and helpul and that the hotel is not so large that it is too impersonal.

The room was big enough for a couple and very clean but as a previous reviewer cited "the price is reasonable for what we got".

The breakfast that was laid on was very varied and we had the choice of a cooked breakfast as well as the usual continental style that can be found in other hotels.

The location of the hotel is near the University where there was even a live band playing on Friday night. All good fun!! It is a 5 minute walk from la Rambla and the Place de la Catalunya.

We stayed at this hotel in late October and were very pleased with what we got. It is described as a three star, superior, and that is a good description. We were given a double room at the front of the hotel which was of a perfectly adequate size. It was spotlessly cleaned each day by friendly staff. Beware, if you like more than one pillow, you need to ask for more. The noise from the main road could be eliminated by shutting both sliding doors to the (very small) balcony and the air conditioning was efficient. The breakfast was not the most extensive that we have had in a hotel, but was perfectly adequate, catering for all tastes. It is totally self-service including hot drinks (from a machine). The one disappointment was that on the Monday that we were there, the cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs) was not available - presumably the cook was on his day off. As stated in other reviews the hotel is in a good central location, just a five minute walk to the Ramblas and the Placa Cataluna. The aerobus stops at the Placa Universitat (100m from the hotel) on the way from the airport, but you have to walk to the Placa Cataluna for the trip back to the airport. We can recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Caledonian Hotel is an excellent choice for a city break in Barcelona. The 24 hour desk service is an added bonus and staff are courteous and helpful. Single rooms are small but adequate and everywhere is spotlessly clean. The showers are powerful and hot water plentiful. Breakfasts are very good with a great selection of hot and cold foods. The noise from local building work was not loud and could not be heard at all in the public rooms. The hotel is a short distance from the main Placa Catalunya and there is a metro station a few yards from the hotel entrance. I would certainly stay at the Caledonian hotel when next in Barcelona.

I stayed in the Caledonian Hotel from the 2nd to the 5th of June 2006 and I could not fault it. The rooms are lovely with comfortable beds, tv with films payable on departure, loads of storage space, nice bathroom with great water pressure although the shower is down quite low, not very comfortable for tall people. The rooms were cleaned each day with the beds made and towels changed. It is situated extremely close to the Universtate stop on the metro line and this links you with the rest of the city. We got the bus from the airport but had to guess where to get off as the bus driver was no help, we got a taxi to the airport from the hotel and it was 20 euro which saved us alot of hassle. Don't forget your beach wear when your going to Barcelona as there is a great beach. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel as it seems like a rip off as there are so many cafes around the hotel with much cheaper breakfast menus. I would definitely stay in the Caledonian if I was going back to Barcelona.

I use to come to Barcelona quite often, and I like to try different hotels.
I enjoyed this hotel.it's the perfect size, only 50 rooms. so, the staff at the front desk is always available and helpul.
The room was ok.anyway, I've seen larger rooms but the price is reasonable for what I got.this hotel is 3 stars, but it can be 4 stars.
The breakfast was quite good.
Staff very helpful and they speak a lot of languages.
The location is great.Right in the center of the city and 5 minutes walk from la Rambla. Just 100 meters from the airport bus, great, only 3.5 euros¡¡¡
The hotel is very very clean. For me it's the most important thing.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good location, good price and a hotel with a personal service, impossible to find in a 300 rooms hotel, for example. this is what I'd call a boutique hotel. I love it.

Have just spent 3 lovely nights in this inviting 3 star hotel with my husband and 9 year old daughter.

It is centrally located, not far from Las Ramblas, and the Metro station Universitat. It is on a very busy wide Avenue but our bedroom was at the rear and noise was not a problem.

The decor is modern and attractive having been recently refurbished I believe. The rooms do tend to be fairly narrow but are comfortable with carpeting and airconditioning. The modern, attractive bathroom was fully tiled with bath and shower over.

We opted for the Hotel breakfast. It was pretty good for a 3 star Hotel. It provided a choice of 3 cereals, small plate of cold meat and cheese, continental style breads, cakes, fruit, yogurt and on one of our 3 days, there was scrambled egg and sausage (my daughter was disappointed that they had no ketchup!). Teas and coffees were self service from a machine.

The staff were friendly and we were able to leave our luggage with them after vacating our room.

For a short vacation, I would strongly recommend this hotel.

This place was a joke. During our stay, my mother fell on the hotel steps and broke her leg, yet never once did ANYBODY in the hotel inquire if she needed help, a doctor, an ambulance, etc., nor did anybody ask how she was or go out of his or her way to help. Instead, we received very rude treatment and were not given information about the hotel (the name of the manager, the name of the owner) when we asked. Additionally, the main elevator was in and out of service, and when we asked what to do (mother on crutches), the desk clerk said, "you'll have to take the steps." When my mother reminded her that she couldn't get up the steps with crutches, the desk clerk just shrugged. We had a miserable experience there. You'd think that when a person falls on YOUR steps, you'd go out of your way to take care of that person. I emphatically do NOT recommend this hotel.

We booked the Caledonian based on price & location but when we walked into reception it completely exceeded our expectations.
The reception staff were very professional & efficient & the lobby was welcoming.
When we reached our room, we couldn't believe our luck. The room was absolutely immaculate, a great size & the bonus of a little balcony facing the main street.

The hotel is easily found from the Universitat Metro & it's nice to be just away from the busy crowds of La Rambla.

We stayed for 4 nights. It was very quiet & the room was always made up to a great standard.

Recommended for couples, groups or business travellers.

Barcelona is the perfect city to end a long trip to Europe, TripAdvisor site we found good recommendations for hotel Cladonian. We took airportbus traveling from the airport every five minutes to Catalunya Square and down at the University, one stop before Catalunya. Hotel in an excellent location on the gran-via. At University Square. The hotel has a small lobby with two small room Internet. Back has a reading corner and a small bar. Breakfast is very good for 3 star hotel. Dining Room is located on a gallery floor above the lobby and a great buffet and excellent service! The hotel is so clean it's like a pharmacy and I loved it. The room was small but smart with large bath and spacious thin screen and a minibar. I loved the room was quiet because it was the back, I do not know there are also quiet rooms forward over the main street that has a lot of traffic movement. There is a supermarket open 24 hours at the hotel and it's always good. Down the street from Starbucks also has a window to University Square. The reception staff is the best I've seen in my life. I highly recommend!

I have just returned from a weekend stay in the Caledonian Hotel. The Hotel staff were Polite and helpful. The room was a lot bigger than I was expecting. It was clean and had the added bonus of a balcony. The only negative would be that if you chose to watch TV any of the English speaking channels had to be paid for. The mini bar prices were inexpensive for a big city Hotel.
The Hotel was within walking distance to las Ramblas. I would have no hesitation in returning to the Caledonian in the future.

Hi, I don't remember an iron in the room, but they can probably supply one. They do have a laundry service. As Yas46 suggested why not give them a ring, they all seemed to speak good English +34 93 453 02 00.
