Hotel is located a little out of the main city area (taxis are cheap), but we had a good view from the room on the 21st floor. Hotel interior is well done, top marks for bed & bedding, but we were terribly disappointed after checking in to realise the gym and sauna were closed for the weekend. Hotel staff are friendly, but there were some problems with language as staff didn't speak good english. We had to also ask twice for more shower gel to be delivered to the room. Claimed to be 5*, I wouldn't give it more than 4. Also no personal hotel car park, and paid 40 euros for parking 2 days in a public car park.

We stayed at the Melia Barcelona for a week during summer 2012. The hotel is located in the business area further away from any main attractions, but only five minutes from the nearest metro station. The interior design of the hotel is very nice, and I especially fell in love with the lamps in the breakfast area - I want one!! The room was very spacious and the king bed extremely comfortable. Each room has its own A/C, which allows for great nights of sleep during the hot summer. Also loved the bathroom, including a jetted tub and a huge jetted shower. Breakfast is huge and super delicious. Even if you arrive late, they do not take all food away right on closing time and ask each table if they want any more food from the buffet before they close. The staff was always nice and the rooms were cleaned very thoroughly.

To the negatives...the hotel bar is overpriced and my cocktail was too strong to enjoy it. Save the money and grab a drink in a bar or restaurant in the neighborhood. Also, parking is $30 in the hotel's parking garage. If you can, come to Barcelona without a car, as parking in the area is scarce and you won't find a free spot easily. To me, the hotel is more of a nice 4-star hotel, but as it was lower priced than other 5-star hotels, I did not mind that at all.

Overall, we completely enjoyed our stay at the Melia Barcelona and would definitely come back another time. With the Metro, we could easily go to every attraction in the city, and the neighborhood was quiet during the month of August.

We just got back from a 3 night stay in the Melia Barcelona. Got a very good deal on hotels.com £230 for 3 nights including bed and breakfast!!! First impressions of the hotel are excellent as the check in area is very posh and has a modern feel to it. The location wasnt too difficult to get to by car and the hotel has its own car park in the basement. (Downside is the high car park price 27 Euros per 24 hours, or 3 Euros per hour if you park for a shorter period than 24 hours, however i think this is across the board in Barcelona as the streets are only for residents parking.)

Nevertheless checkin was pretty painless and i upgraded to the Level room so that the spa, internet in room and executive lounge are included for an extra 30 Euros per night. Otherwise it would cost 8 euros for spa access each time and and 12 euros for internet access in the room for 24 hours.

The room was pleasantly decorated and the bed was huge, the overall size of the room could have been a little bigger but was comfortable enough. The bathroom is brilliant with a small bath tub and separate hydrotherapy shower with features like a hand held shower, adjustable body massage sprays, large top shower head, this was very impressive.

The executive lounge always had snacks and drinks available thoughout the day and was a good place to relax for a little while. There werent many people in the lounge though which did make it lack some atmosphere. The spa was good too especially the hot seats and the sauna.

Breakfast was great and had a vast range of things on offer. We did not try any of the restaurants as we mainly went out into the centre to eat. The area itself was perfect away from the centre but not too far. It would have been pretty hectic had we been in the centre due to the Champions League final on Wednesday night. Avenue Diagonal is just a block away which is a very busy road with various shops and malls. Starbucks is just round the corner. The metro is very cheap and a nice 5 minute walk down the road and it seemed pretty safe to walk around even till late at night. A taxi into the centre cost around 7 Euros.

Besides the additional cost of the parking i cant really fault this hotel and provided me and my wife a perfect base to explore the beautiful Barca. I would recommend this hotel and definitely would consider going back to Barcelona and this hotel.

Recently spent 4 comfortable nights at the Melia. They have a great location away from all the hustle and bustle. We parked our car in the parking garage, and left it there until we checked out.We walked to several of the nearby cafes and restaurants nearby for dinner,or took a cab,or the metro to all the sights during the day.Our room was gorgeous, spotless, and they had a nice selection of toiletries.Bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Barcelona.
