We chose to extend our Tour booking in this great hotel by two extra days at the conclusion of our tour and this only confirmed our high regard for the Melia Sarria. OK, there was a slight mixup in our room allocation at the start of our four day stay but this was quickly and efficiently fixed - and up to a point, in my view, how the establishment fixes minor issues is a measure of their professionalism. The dining room was full for breakfast and maybe a little cramped but we had several tour groups dining at the same time - the Melia team seemed to handle it well and the offering was extensive: cereals, fruit, cooked meals and coffee/tea etc were all available. Room service in the late evening was quick and courteous and the reception staff were very helpful with a couple of excellent recommendations for dinning out nearby (El Patrone on one night and La Marie on the other - both a short walk away: see separate reviews). The small gymnasium was equipped with bike, treadmill etc. Overall, a fine hotel strongly recommended for anyone staying in Barcelona.

We stayed here for 4 nights.

Pros: The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good. Room service was also good.

Cons: the room was very small with there being not even enough room to pull back the chair by the desk. The toiletteries were of very low quality! The hotel was not within walking distance to any of the major tourist attractions. However, Taxi fares are relatively low which partially made up for the bad location.

Overall, it was alright but not good enough to personally recommend.

Barcelona was our last stop on our 2-weeks holiday before going back to Madrid to catch a plane back to Australia.

We arrived at the hotel after 2-weeks driving around Andalusia and 3-hour train journey feeling very tired and ready to sleep.

Previously we received an email from the hotel who said that they were instructed by the GM to upgrade us to "The Level", and were already impressed when they asked what sort of pillows we want (latex? down? ergonomics?) and ten other questions.

But when we went to the reception, we were told that the hotel was overbooked and... We were upgraded to stay at The Suite!

Our suite (The Gaudi suite) is on 17th floor with fantastic view of Barcelona. It was about 7pm when we were sitting at the living room, wondering what to do and where to eat, when the door was knocked and the room service brought complementary tapas for us!

The next day when we came back to the room there were chocolates and a giant rose on our bed. A simple but very nice touch.

The room is equipped with Nespresso machine (heaven for me), complimentary 'normal' coffee and tea, microwave, and a kettle (but who needs those when by being The Level customers we have access to the Level buffet which is ready from 7AM to 11PM?). The bathroom has jet shower, perfect for tired guests like us!

The breakfats buffet is simply divine. Apart from normal dish, they have a specific section for Catalan food.

The staffs are very friendly and speak English perfectly. When we sat down at the Level lounge, we noticed one staff entertained a 10 year-old boy who was alone as his parents were elsewhere in the hotel.

We stayed previously in Melia Madrid and Sevilla, but Barcelona is simply the best!

Really, the hotel has made us difficult to leave the room and wander around Barcelona!

Nice rooms Ok location. A block away from the hop on hop off bus stop. Very close to a public bus stop. We took bus 59 to go to Rambla for just 2 euros per person. 2 laundromats not too far from the hotel, only problem was the timing of these laundromats. Though the hotel seems to be located in a quiet area, one street behind the hotel we found a street full of shops. All the major brands. On the whole a good experience. We ordered room service and the food was good.

We booked this as a "secret" destination package. Really pleased with the hotel although would have preferred to be little closer to Catalunya /Barceloneta. Room good plenty of wardrobe space, free wifi, minibar (not free obvs) and a safe. Comfy bed but no view (not every room is going to have them!). Room service was hit and miss, I generally had to call twice to get something brought to the room. All the staff were on the whole lovely and helpful. On our final night we upgraded to a Level Room. For €90 it was well worth it as we wanted a late checkout that would have cost €70 and we had access to the lounge and spa with complimentary drinks and buffet. We also changed rooms to a 19th floor one with a spectacular view of the city, better quality smellies and a coffee machine (that I couldn't figure out but hey ho). Hospital Clinic metro is a few minutes walk down the road. A great base in a nice hotel, I'd recommend it.
