This is the new Citroen C3 Aircross, a small, affordable SUV with the option of seven seats.

  • New Citroen C3 Aircross revealed
  • An SUV version of the C3 hatchback
  • Similar design to that car
  • Available with seven seats
  • Petrol, hybrid and electric versions on offer
  • Could cost less than £25,000

The current Citroen C3 Aircross is starting to look its age, so it’s a good job that an all-new one has just been revealed. If it looks familiar, that’ll be because it’s styled very similarly to the new Citroen C3.

It’s also available as a seven-seater, something you don’t see very often on cars of this size, and there’s an all-electric version as well.

New Citroen C3 Aircross design

The new Citroen C3 Aircross looks almost identical to the new Citroen C3, just a bit longer. This is no bad thing though, because it’s a modern and funky design which looks much more fresh than the outgoing car.

New Citroen C3 Aircross front

Starting up front you have the same C-shaped headlights and upright nose as the C3, a design cue which was taken from the Oli concept. The silver trim around the lower bumper also makes the car look more rugged than the mechanically-similar Vauxhall Frontera.

New Citroen C3 Aircross rear

From the side it looks a bit like a C3 which has taken a little blue pill, because it’s gained some length to accommodate an extra row of seats. It still has the same boxy silhouette though, and the rear end is sporting similar C-shaped tail lights.

New Citroen C3 Aircross interior and practicality

The new C3 Aircross’ dashboard design is identical to that of the C3, meaning it looks much more modern than the outgoing Aircross thanks to funky-looking materials and bold shapes.

The main thing to note inside though is the added interior space, because this is why you’ll be buying this car over the standard C3. There are two versions to choose from: a seven-seater or a five-seat option.

The seven-seat car has the same amount of legroom in the second row as the standard C3 in order to make room for an extra pair of chairs in the back. If you don’t need seven seats, the five seater option gets 65mm more legroom in the back and a bigger boot.

New Citroen C3 Aircross engines and motors

There are a few different ways you can power your C3 Aircross, with the cheapest likely to be the 1.2-litre petrol engine with 100hp and a manual gearbox. There’s also a 1.2-litre petrol hybrid with 136hp, and this car can drive using electric power alone in slow-moving traffic to save fuel.

Ready to make the switch to an EV? No problem. The new C3 Aircross is also available with a 113hp electric motor paired to a 44kWh battery, giving it over 186 miles of range. That’ll make it unsuitable if you’re regularly making long motorway trips, but if you spend most of your time in town it’ll do just fine. Sadly, though, the EV is only available as a five-seater.

New Citroen C3 Aircross price and release date

The new C3 Aircross will go on sale in the autumn, with deliveries starting before the end of the year. Citroen hasn’t said how much this car will cost yet, only going so far as to say it’ll be sold at “an ultra-competitive price”.

That could be open to many interpretations, but with the smaller C3 hatchback costing less than £22,000, a £25,000 price tag for this SUV seems pretty likely. Should this be the case then the Dacia Jogger would remain the cheapest way to get seven seats by a few thousand pounds.
