“It’s more than a job. For me, it’s a privilege that young people allow you to be part of that journey with them.” We're giving a shout out to Michelle, a Registered Manager at our Rossorry Grove service in Northern Ireland. Why? Because she's recently been awarded an Employee Excellence award at our Stephenson Awards for her dedicated work in our children's services 👏 Rossorry Grove provides young people with supported accommodation who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness. When the service's contract was due to end, she fought hard for the young people to continue to access this crucial support. She was instrumental in enabling the young people to conduct their own campaign to save the service which involved them engaging with local media, council members and politicians. Her colleagues said that she really went above and beyond. “For me, there’s a real emotional connection to the service as I was there right from the beginning.” Thank you Michelle and the Rossorry Grove team for everything you do for vulnerable young people in Northern Ireland ❤️ Interested in joining the Action for Children family? Meet the wonderful Debbie. She's recently been recognised with a Long Service Award for her incredible work over the last 25 years at Action for Children. Here she explains all about her role and what she does for children and families… 💼 Apprenticeships and Qualifications Officer 📍 Work from home in North Wales 🚸 Taking action for children by: Providing development opportunities for front line staff to gain qualifications needed for their role. These opportunities ensure we have highly skilled, qualified and motivated staff, who provide excellent quality of care across our services. I'm proud to have supported with an apprenticeship programme for care-experienced young people, helping them gain work experiences, which will help them into the world of work. ❤️ My favourite part of the job is: Watching staff grow and develop as a result of gaining a qualification or apprenticeship. With the right support and nurturing these staff have been able to achieve and have grown into even better practitioners. This really makes my job worthwhile and I'm lucky enough to have been a small part of it. 🙌 When I'm not working I'm: To help me switch off, I enjoy making celebration cakes. I love the challenge and being part of people's celebrations. I love seeing their faces when they see the cakes for the first time! I also love spending time with my grandchildren and unleashing my “inner-child” with them again. Considering joining our family? Browse all our open roles: https://lnkd.in/eerQaEnu

It’s day 5️⃣ of our Stephenson Awards takeover. We’ve been highlighting just some of the people who make Action for Children incredible. From caregivers to volunteers, colleagues to corporate partners. We’re dedicating today to our Supporter Achievement award winners 👏 Meet the people who go above and beyond to support vulnerable children, young people and families... 👉 Alastair has been on the Ultimate News Quiz committee since 2014, an event that has raised over £2 million since it began. “Alastair is unstoppable and constantly striving for more, finding creative and innovative ways of growing potential fundraising. They are so passionate about everything that we do, and have pledged ongoing support with unwavering enthusiasm.” 👉 Kirsty, member of the Carmarthenshire Action Squad, has been described as 'putting monumental effort into fundraising and raising awareness for Action for Children'. Together with Sarah, Aimee and Lauren, they've mobilised friends, family and their local community, appeared on local radio shows to spread awareness and raised £13,500 for one of our local services at an event they organised." 👉 Sam, who grew up in the care system, raises funds each year to provide children in the local area with Christmas gifts. Sam raises the money needed to gift everything from bikes to books by reaching out to local businesses and the community. “Parents and carers always contact us to say the difference it has made to them. Many of our families cannot afford to buy a gift, so this is life changing for them.”
