For us, it is more than just a diaper, a wipe, or a pad. Each of these represents a more secure parent, a healthier baby, or a teenager who can go to school while they’re on their period. At Justice Necessary, we want to educate individuals open to learning about mending the safety net, speaking out for our neighbors, and building lasting change to end period poverty. That’s why we’re starting a monthly newsletter. Our newsletters will include Ask the Doc where a local doctor will highlight and answer your burning questions, plenty of fun and interactive polls (because we know learning is a 2-way street), and featured stories about important issues affecting our local communities. Are you interested in receiving our informational newsletter? This week is #AntiPovertyWeek, and the theme - a Call to End Child Poverty should resonate with us all. The reality that 1 in 6 Australian children live in poverty is not just a statistic; it is a blemish on our collective character. Poverty is not merely an economic condition; it is a systemic failure that casts long shadows over the lives of our youngest citizens. The research is unequivocal: growing up in poverty impairs physical and mental health, derails educational outcomes, and its impacts often follow the child into adulthood. This is not just a failure of policy; it is a structural failure to protect and nurture the most vulnerable members of our society. We can't keep accepting the status quo. Let's turn our societal shame into societal change. We owe it to our children - and ourselves. #AntiPovertyWeek #EndChildPoverty #TimeForChange

This article is published in recognition of Child Support Awareness Month. There is a lot about the child support program that is unknown, especially the role it plays in helping reduce child poverty. In NYC, we continually seek to shape and push the program in a direction that is child-focused: https://on.nyc.gov/47DYr1X
Opinion: Did you ever think child support services could serve as an anti-poverty tool?
