We Liked It!

Reviewed Jan 20, 2024
We liked it! We stayed for two weeks and it was a very enjoyable vacation. Lots of differing opinions when reading the other reviews. Our advice: manage your expectations, go in with an open mind, be understanding, and BE NICE. Treat the staff with kindness and respect and they’ll go out of their way to ensure you’re happy. By the way, that’s great advice for anywhere in the world. That said, this is a comparatively affordable vacation, at a very large and nice resort, with a huge staff as well as lots of options for pools, bars, food, and even beaches. If you want to be treated like Royalty then pay more…lots more…here or someplace else. Want to have a good time at a safe, friendly, and massive resort on a beautiful Caribbean island with a friendly staff? Book it!

Yes, you will be approached regarding memberships with LHVCs. Yes, you will be approached about booking spa services. Yes, it can be annoying. Give ‘em break, folks, they’re doing their jobs. Don’t want a massage? My advice, book one anyway. They’re great and it gives you access to a very private pool area for your entire stay. Still don’t want to pay $100+ for an excellent 1-hour massage and private pool area? Don’t. Tell the salespeople around the resort (they are everywhere) you aren’t interested and they’ll eventually leave you alone.

The membership pitch is a bit tougher to avoid. We’re okay giving up an hour or two of our vacation to let these hardworking salespeople check a box. You typically get a gift of some sort and an education. In the end, if you don’t like what they’re selling then politely say so and you’ll be done. Note: these salespeople have access to golf carts and they will happily whisk you around the property for a $1 or $2 once you’ve made friends with them. Totally worth it!

RE: TIPPING - According to a JAN 2024 Google search; the most typical salary per year in the DR is around $7,000. Keep that mind, tip generously, and you’ll likely have an incredible stay. YES, I get it, “this is an all-inclusive resort so I shouldn’t have to tip.” That’s true. You do NOT have to tip. If that’s your opinion, my suggestion is to pay more for a stay at a Sandals Resort where employees aren’t allowed to accept tips. When we travel, especially in the Caribbean, we have found that a couple of dollars goes a long way. Don’t want to tip every time you get a drink? Give a bartender or two $10-$20 when you arrive. I assure you, they will remember your name, family member names, and favorite drink orders. At the buffets, take care of the greeter, grill/omelet cook, and servers and you’ll likely have a more note-worthy experience.

RE: RCI – Excellent! Onsite rep/concierge, Julissa Santana, is very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Yes, with RCI you are vip…but not VIP. There are many levels of membership at LHVC which is confusing. As RCI members, we are the lowest level of VIP. Here a few tips. 1. YES, LHVC will arrange transport from/to POP airport for RCI member exchanges. We missed this and paid for our own transport. 2. RCI members have access to only two of six available beaches: VIP Beach and Cofresi Beach. There are seven beaches onsite but Serenity Beach was closed during our stay. 3. Restaurants and bars; this is very confusing. Ask the concierge to spell it out for you when they supply the resort map. “Available for All Guests,” yup, that’s RCI. Available for “All Members and Special Guests” does not include RCI as we were not “members” of LHVC.

Worst resort experience of my life. The food was awful. We paid over $2000 for the week for all-inclusive drinks/meals. WORST DRINKS IMAGINABLE! My mother was injured from a broken Jacuzzi in her room

Room tip: Most of the hotel grounds are for members only. RCI members are considered guests and only have access to certain restaurants, beaches, pool

This place was so Amazing! My wife and kids loved it. There’s just so many activities there and 7 different private beaches, 19 restaurants on the resort grounds. There’s all different types of suites to private villas to penthouses! It was absolutely amazing I’m definitely going back there soon. I would highly recommend going here. Also get the All Inclusive and pay within 24hrs of your booking and it’s half the price of getting it when you get there. And there’s so much to do there we went on a monster buggy adventure we took the cable car up to their tallest mountain, which there’s a restaurant up there. There’s a golf course right near the resort. There was four of us on our trip they gave us two golf carts to drive around the resort Because the place is so big. They also have their own Colosseum there and they do acts seven nights a week. The staff there is so friendly and help you with whatever you need there’s 19 different restaurants on the resort grounds tons of swimming pools and Jacuzzis. They have private villas there 3 to 7 bedrooms which all have private pools and Jacuzzis we stayed at the presidential suite for three nights and it was amazing and then they moved us to our private four bedroom villa. That was absolutely amazing. A private chef would come every morning and make us breakfast at whatever time we wanted. We would be able to pick one day out of the week for the chef to come and do our own private barbecue I would highly recommend this place Lifestyle Holiday Vacation Club!

Room tip: I would not rent a car they have shuttles that will take you from the airport to the hotel. They have golf carts you use to get around on.

Had a good stay here with family who have a time-share here. The rooms are big and spacious, and the all-inclusive side of it made everything easy. The resort itself is well maintained and the pool/sun lounger areas are great. There is a wide variety of food outlets too.

The all-inclusive cost is pretty high (I'm pretty sure I wouldn't spend that much if I was paying for meals and drinks, but I'm not complaining...

I was nervous about staying her after reading the reviews. But, glad I went anyways!!

We stayed in a two bedroom suite. The condo was more than enough room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The mattress, bedding and pillows were very comfortable.

As far as the air is concerned, it was not as cold as we would have liked. But, it was also extremely hot when we went. The room was cool, not cold and not hot. We lived with it, but next time I would bring a little fan to help when sleeping.

We enjoyed all of our meals. To me, it was typical all-inclusive buffets. Nothing special. The best was the Mexican Restaurant and my least favorite was the Asian Restaurant. We could not use all of the amenities as we were not "gold members." I was ok with not using their pool area or beach because there are many other pools and beach areas to choose from. However, I was disappointed that we could not get ice cream and coffee as were didn't have the right bracelets. I feel that everyone should be able to eat at the ice cream place!!!! The lack of ice cream seemed to really upset me for some reason.

Housekeeping was awesome. They came to clean the room everyday and did an amazing job. It is a nice perk to come back to a clean condo every afternoon with fresh clean towels.

Cons: We have a full kitchen and it would have been nice to stack some treats in there. However, there was no place to buy food. It would have been nice to have chips and stuff in the room. However, they did stack our fridge everyday with soda and water.

Some things I would do differently next time:

1. Bring A LOT of cash. Many things do not take a credit card and it was a pain to get cash out.

2. Bring my own rafts/floaties/skim boards. The charge way too much at the resort to purchase. For one plastic tube, it was $10! A nice raft was $60!! To use a skim board it was $10 an hour. Fit as much of that stuff as you can in your suitcase!

3. Bring a small fan to sleep with at night as I said, it was only cool and hard to sleep.

4. Bring a reusable water bottle as I drink a lot of water throughout the day. I left mine at the airport and a small, cheap one at the resort cost $20.

We do plan on going back and would recommend this place!

Room tip: Bring cash and own pool floatables.

The room was large and comfortable, and was well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. We had trouble with the a/c and one toilet working which were fixed after two days. Restaurants and bars were nice and the food was delicious. The Asian restaurant was our favorite! At the buffet, they had lots of fresh fruits - the best pineapple I've ever had - and wide variety of dishes to chose from. The weather was extremely hot, even for Dominican Republic standards, they staff said, making the pools lukewarm by afternoon - probably to be expected at that time of year. The desk hostess in the Presidential Suites check-in, Julissa Santana, went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and our stay memorable - without her it would not have been as pleasant as it was. The resort expected a visit to their sales office which was staffed by pushy sales people, which we ended after two hours. Surprised by the rudeness and attitude of the sales staff, which is typical at these sale pitches. Overall we had a nice week and enjoyed the resort's amenties.

Room tip: The restaurants have great food; VIP beach was great. Highly recommend diving/snorkeling trip sold by vendors next to the pool.
