I visited with my friends, we work in the travel industry and wanted to see first hand this boutique hotel.
Normally you will go to an all inclusive hotel in the Caribbean, this is not that type for a reason. Everything you get is top of the line, you don’t get the same food and ambiance quality that you get here in an all inclusive hotel.
Casa Colonial is beautiful, from the moment the gates open, you feel as if you are walking into your own home… a luxurious home that is.
The staff is friendly, courteous and very attentive to details. This is common in the island and the staff makes sure you are well taken care of.
They offered breakfast included in your price (depending on your rate-hotel is not cheap)
The hotel also has a beautiful pool on the 3rd floor with direct view to the ocean, private beach area with chairs, towels and waiter service.
Dinner at Lucia-their restaurant, it’s a must do. Food is delicious with picture perfect presentation. Suggest to make reservations and ask for a corner table.
The entire hotel decor offers the feeling of peace and luxury, with floor to ceiling windows and beautiful airy curtains.
I did suggest to add non-dairy or lactose free milk/products to their menu as I had to drink my coffee black due to lack of milk alternative.
At night, housekeeping will offer turndown service so your room is ready when you are ready to sleep.
The hotel is also close to a shopping mall, the hotel offers club cart service to/from near locations just ask one of the guys in the front.
The area is very safe and you can ask their staff for suggestions for activities. We did not get to use their Spa, but they do offer a variety of massages which are always good to unwind while on vacation.
We also met Marisol, the GM of the hotel and she was very welcoming.
Overall, great experience. We will definitely be back.

My wife and I just returned from a week long stay at Casa Colonial. We needed to spend time at a peaceful beachfront oasis in the sun after many months of long hours working in the medical field during the pandemic. Options were limited with lockdown and quarantine restrictions. What we found at Casa Colonial was just what we needed. The hotel was beautiful, clean, well-run, and quite comfortable. The beach was well maintained, private, and quiet. The spa was clean and services were very professional. Every meal was excellent in quality, variety, and freshness of ingredients. We did not have any food related issues despite eating almost all our meals at the hotel. The entire staff was particularly friendly and accommodating without being at all intrusive. As travel options hopefully increase over the coming months I’m sure that it will become much more difficult to book a room here, especially at the rates they are currently offering. The hotel is also relatively close to the international airport, which was very easy to navigate and even provided rapid Covid-19 testing on site before boarding our return flight.

Yes, it is expensive but it was worth every penny (peso). Lovely grounds and spacious rooms and bathrooms. Whoever designed the place did an outstanding job. This is top of the line. I found it very tranquil and restful in its beautiful setting on the beach. We didn’t do spa treatments so I cannot speak to that, but I thought the beach area was perfect. Casa Colonial has a limited number of guests, which contributes greatly to the peaceful, relaxed atmosphere on the beach, in the restaurants, and around the property. Their one fine-dining restaurant was very good, although expensive. Breakfasts were good too. There are other good dining options near enough to walk. The hotel will also take you by golf cart to nearby restaurants. Some quibbles but overall a great place that delivered a very high-quality stay.

Horrible experience. I’ve never been to a hotel that literally try to hold me hostage at the resort. Let me explain I had reservation from January 21-24, when I checked out I had a friend picking me up from the resort to take me back to Santiago and they wouldn’t let him in onto to the property. I try having the front desk calling the gate to let my friend in and they wouldn’t call. I literally had to leave the hotel and walk 2 miles to get my friend from the front security gate. When I did get my friend what happened next is totally unacceptable from a hotel that’s charging high rates. So I’m loading my bags into my friends car. All of a sudden 2 local taxi drivers ARE allowed through the security gate. They pull up and start asking my friend if he’s an Uber driver and they tell my friend that he can’t drive me out of here, that I’m their client. that’s when it turned into a verbal altercation. I can keep going but that’s the short version. Very bad security and horrible service on the part of this hotel. I personally will never spend 1 Dominican peso here, let alone an American dollar. The woman at the front desk that wouldn’t allow her guest to be picked up by their own friend on property should be embarrassed of herself and her establishment and the way she treated a paying client. I wasn’t staying at your establishment at no charge and the local taxi drivers that want my business aren’t your guest. I am. Horrible vacation!

Thank you so much for your recent visit to Casa Colonial Beach & Spa. We want you to know that as property within the Playa Dorada complex we must abide by its rules. As a hotel we put at your disposal a free transportation to take you to the entrance of the complex where you could board your friend's car. We are very sorry that this situation has harmed the whole experience at our hotel.

We stayed at this amazing property for three nights and it was a wonderful experience! No, there is not much to do, but listening to the sounds of nature, soaking in the sunshine, walking miles of empty beaches and only sharing the beauty with only a few other lucky people was therapy of the best kind!
The hotel itself is beautiful with a very inviting lobby, comfortable rooms, and a balcony which we loved. The staff was engaging and gracious thru out our stay, and very nice to our little 10 month old son. We ate on property all three days and had no negative experiences. Our highlights were the Mahi Mahi Tacos, the salmon, and the special Dominican dish they offered on Fridays.
The area as a whole is still almost completely shut down due to Covid, for example, the nearby two story mall had only two stores open. But everyone we saw wore a mask and was conscientious. You are pretty much limited to the hotel for food and to the beach for entertainment, but for our three days we couldn't have asked for more! The only place I am going to knock them is the laundry service is pure extortion! $7 to wash a pair of mens shorts is crazy, as is $8 for a T shirt. There are no other options, so be prepared. We spent $60 to wash one day's worth of laundry- ridiculous!
So in summary: It really is a special place to spend a few days. A week might be a little long due to the lack of options, but in today's world, this is an amazing opportunity to live a few dreamy days. Not cheap, but value for money, and worth every penny!

Second time i stayed in this hotel. Its beautiful, clean and has good food in its restaurant.
Lucia is maybe the best restaurant in the area, not cheap, but really good food. The service does not completely match the food, its slow, but friendly.

The breakfast is really good and fresh.

The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful and almost empty. Possible to walk for miles almost by yourself.

On the needs to improve list i would put the level of especially the feemale personel in the consiege. They did not speak or understand english very well, and knew nothing of any restaurants or tours. The male staff was considerably better.

If you want to be transported for ex to puerto plate, the reseption asks 1000 pesos, the taxis on the street 500 and uber 200. Just for your knowledge

But in all a superb hotel

Wow, what an incredibly experience at this property. I am Dominican by birth and visit the island to see family, frequently complaining that the tourism industry isn’t on par with other tropical destinations. Casa Colonial completely changed my perspective, because it’s such an incredible property that I constantly had to remember that I was on the island and not in some place like France. The architecture of the facilities, the perfectly manicured grounds, the outstanding service, the excellent restaurants, the well apportioned-rooms, all remind me of the nicest SLH branded properties I’ve visited around the world. Don’t even get me started on the fully functional fitness room, where you can get an amazing workout if that’s important to you. Or the in redoble spa. But the thing that really takes it over the top (for me) is the well-trained staff throughout the property, which give you the Dominican warmth that I know our people have, but doesn’t always show in luxury properties. Everyone I encountered had a smile and a greeting, making you feel welcomed and appreciated. It’s evident that a lot of of training and leadership has gone into making this a property that can compete with any luxury destination, anywhere in the world. If this exists elsewhere on the island, I don’t know. This property is worth every penny, and makes me proud as a Dominican, that something like this exists here. I cannot wait to return!

This place is pure heaven and service is second to none. From the moment you drive in through their beautiful gates, and walk through the door, the aroma permeating the hotel is pure zen and relaxation. The aroma provides a sense of peace and relaxation. The hotel, the grounds and rooms are beautifully decorated. The beach is immaculate and the views unparalleled. This hotel only has 50 rooms so you do not have a hotel experience but rather a feeling of being in a beautiful home away from home. This hotel is not only a jewel in the Dominican Republic but in the Caribbean. I highly recommend this hotel and hope you can experience what my family and I experienced. I celebrated my 50th birthday and the staff went over and beyond creating a feeling of being around family vs being around hotel staff. I met the owner of the hotel and she was engaging and charming. You can tell that the owners are paying attention to every detail and every guest staying at this beautiful boutique hotel. It truly is a boutique hotel. I will continue returning in order to relax and detox. The moment you enter and leave the hotel, you walking away feeling happier.

Casa colonial was a beautiful hotel, but it’s not for everyone. It’s more of a retreat and a place to go if you want peace and quiet. It’s definitely for an older crowd. We were in the pool having a conversation and were told we were being too loud. Had music on super low on a cellphone and they told us we couldn’t have music, but it didn’t say that in the rules. Another group was being even louder and they didn’t tell them anything. They seem to cater more to a European crowd and not their own people.

Food was also over priced and not great. Our food came out before our drinks and we waited 45 mins for that. Our drinks at the pool and beach also took at least 20 minutes. They seemed very under staffed. We ended up not even having dinner there after one night and went across to another restaurant that was much better.

Even though this place was beautiful I will not be coming back after not being treated so nicely.

Choosing Casa Colonial Hotel for my mother's 70th birthday was one of our better decisions. As experienced travelers who value luxury and hold lifetime Ambassador Elite status with Marriott Hotels, our expectations were high.

We were captivated by Casa Colonial's enchanting photos, promising a dreamlike setting, and the hotel didn't disappoint. From the outset, their team gracefully accommodated our group of 27, signaling the exceptional service to come.

Vilma Beard, the hotel's general manager, ensured a seamless experience, harmonizing every aspect of our stay. The attention to detail was evident in everything from the luxurious accommodations to the gourmet dining, highlighting the staff's dedication to culinary excellence and elevating our weekend's events.

The entire hotel staff, from bartenders to housekeepers, contributed to making our stay special, with the pool area and its comfortable loungers standing out.

Ms. Beard was consistently attentive, surpassing our experiences at other high-end hotels.
The check-in experience was exceptionally smooth and efficient, offering a refreshing start after our lengthy travel. This early positive impression laid a great foundation for our stay. The staff's constant availability and dedication to surpassing our expectations reminded us of our recent visit to the Bvlgari hotel in Paris, and indeed, surpassed our experiences at other renowned hotels in recent times.

Given the outstanding experience, we, along with many of our guests, are eagerly planning our return.
