Gran Ventana Beach Resort strikes a balance between vibrant entertainment and tranquility, with its atmosphere transitioning to quieter moments after 11 PM. While the hotel earns praise for cleanliness and attentive service, some guests note occasional delays in towel service and slow response during peak times. The rooms are seen as comfortable, albeit in need of updates, and while the amenities—including the beach and pools—are well-regarded, there is room for improvement in shade provision. Many guests find the premium upgrades worthwhile and enjoy the hotel's convenient and scenic location.

This is a small resort. It has 3 buildings. Building number 3 is on the other side of the resort and has it’s own pool. It is away from the loud music played all day and the theatre area around the main pool. They play music from around 9am till 10 pm when the entertainment is over. Not all rooms in this resort are updated. The resort is in general clean, rooms are clean. Food is ok in the buffet restaurant. Lots of fruit and salad options. Lots of meat options too. Wine and other drinks are drinkable, but not very good. The wine and other mix drinks come out of plastic containers.
Wifi connection is a major issue in the resort. The complementary wifi is only available in a small theatre are and is 100% unreliable. If you need wifi, get it from your own phone company (roam like home). Staff at this resort are nice. You can pay for wifi at the resort for $35 us for a week, but it is still slow and unreliable.
In this resort they use reusable plastic cups outside the restaurants. Great way to reduce garbage. It is best to take your travel mug for drinks.

The resort is about 20 minutes from the airport in a big bus (thats with 2 stops before Gran Ventana). The welcoming on the bus was awesome, very funny guide (trilingual English, French and Spanish) and comfy. Drop off is at the front lobby which is pretty and flavored drinkable water is offered (3 different fruit flavored). Free wifi connecting is available in the lobby and the theatre section (better reception by the way). The resort was a 5 minute walk from the Playa Dorada Mall, good for shopping for souvenirs a lot of choice. The buffet is right beside the main lobby. It is a spacious restaurant all open air under a few roofs. Places in the sun in the shade and in the evening even outside on a deck under the stars very romantic and calm). The food was awesome. The breakfast selection was always the same but they had a lot to choose from, I almost never ate the same thing. Lunch and Supper buffet was a big variety and changed every day. We ate ate fruit and veggies and didn't get sick. The three restaurants were very good. We preferred the Octopus because it was less popular, quieter and cool (inside with air conditioning). In all the food was AMAZING! The room was clean, cute and cozy. The bed was comfortable. The only thing I didn't like was the smell of the room. It smelled of mold and humidity, but I got used to it and only went to the room to sleep. The pools (2) were clean and refreshing not too cold. We preferred the quiet pool which is in the Beata section (second building further from the main lobby). Is was quiet and not a lot of people went there. The beach, WOW! Of all the resorts on that same stretch of beach, Gran Ventana had the nicest sand of all, soft and clean. The water was clear and turquoise. A lot of reef and colorful fish to observe. We were able to find a quiet spot that was every day available under a palmtree parasol. Super good service and nice people. Animation was cool at the main pool and on the beach. Bar selection was very good and there was always a special drink everyday, yummy! Best trip so far! I will definitely be going back hopefully soon and maybe with my kids!

My family and I loved this resort. We had a great time. The food was amazing, the beaches were lovely, and the staff were extremely friendly. Our room was by the quiet pool, and it was very peaceful there. You could sign out the resort’s tennis court, but I would recommend bringing your own racket, or else you would have to rent one. The food was delicious and they have a new “main course” or main attraction each night. At the main pool at night, they have entertainment, but I would recommend chatting by the quiet pool. At the main pool, it is pretty loud at night. At the beach, there is a snack shack where you can get lunch if you don’t want to walk back to the buffet. There is also a bar there. I would also recommend bringing your own cups, because you are going to want to have a drink on the beach. Bring your own towel, because if you loose the towels they give you, you have to pay $20. Also, bring lots of $1 bills for tips, because the staff do not get payed as much as people that live in the U.S. or Canada. Overall, this was a great resort, and I would love to go back sometime soon.

Spent a week here with my twin sister in mid November and we both had a wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable time. It was great having the shuttle bus waiting at the airport after arrival to bring us here and then again on departure day to take us back to the airport; so never a hassle figuring out transportation issues. This resort is very well laid out and has enough to keep one happy for the time you wish to spend here. It is a very clean resort with great, always happy employees who work very hard at keeping we tourists happy, which we greatly appreciated while we were there. Our room was always very clean, the fridge was restocked daily with drinks and water and we loved that it over looked the quiet poo which in itself was great as it really was quiet. We enjoyed spending time on the deck with the beautiful pool right below us and also spent quite a bit of time in the pool and enjoying drinks from the pool bar which was also right there. It's only a few minutes to walk to the main part of the hotel for meals and to the large main pool then a short walk through the beautiful grounds out to the wonderful beach which is where we spent the majority of our time. They keep the beach very clean and even though the water is a bit rough it can still be swam in safely and the snorkeling is great. It was a very hot week when we were there, so being able to relax, snorkel and enjoy just laying in the sun on the beach was wonderful. The only downside is the constant flow of beach vendors that steadily pass by with anything from clothes, jewellery, wind chimes, sea shells to day trips to all sorts of knick knacks and whatnots (we did by from a few); but it is non-stop - I do understand that they are making money to provide for themselves and their families, but it does get a little tiring when you are simply trying to relax. The food here was also great and having a choice of 3 A la Carte meals was also great as we got to enjoy at meal at every wonderful resort restaurant. The breakfast buffet though is enough to get one from there right to dinner as after eating breakfast one really never needed to have lunch, simply a snack at the pool yummy! Just all in all a great place and a great trip! Will definitely be back in the future; with our husbands in tow!

I really enjoyed this resort and the way it was laid out. The pool is beautiful with a ‘beach’ graded entrance, a swim up bar, 2 deeper sections and a volleyball net. Lots of space with chairs lined around the pool and 2 grassy areas with palm trees. The buildings surround the pool so even when it is super windy on the beach it is calm by the pool.

The 1000 and 2000 rooms are in buildings in the main pool area but the 3000 rooms are is a separate complex about a 2 min walk from the main area. At this other complex which was presumably once a separate resort there is the quiet pool with a bar and one of the al la carte restaurants.

The food in the buffet was reasonable for an all inclusive, there was variation from day to day. We enjoyed all 3 al la cartes and the service at all 3 was fantastic - my sangria glass never got less than 1/2 full before it was refilled.

Rooms were clean and cleaned at an reasonable early hour every day. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The beach is lovely, lots of chairs. Lots of vendors but they respect ‘no gracias’. Easy and felt safe to walk quite far along beach in both directions.

There is a mall with numerous souvenir shops 3 min walk from hotel. We did go into Puerto Plata one day but it rained and it wasn’t the best trip.

There is a 5 km running/walking/biking path following the road connecting all the hotels in the Playa Dorada area which was nice to walk. Currently there are exercise stations being build along the route too which would be a fun activity. I walked the route early in the morning and around midday and didn’t feel unsafe as a single woman however did get lots of comments from passers by especially in the morning from local guys going to work.

The beer was good, the cocktails were good and there were lots of activities both at the pool and at the beach.

Only negatives would be free wifi is only in the theatre area and is poor. You can pay for wifi everywhere in the resort but it’s also not great and the 7 day package is 7 days of use and every time you shut your phone off you need to re log in. So maybe consider buying the 3 day unless you are on your phone constantly. Other negative is there was a lot of smokers during our stay and they were pretty inconsiderate.

Reception will change US but only into Dominican pesos. You can exchange larger notes into 1’s at the bars as the bar staff are happy to swap their tip money for larger notes.

We stayed in Gran Ventana for 7 days. It’s a very family friendly resort with beautiful pools, comfortable rooms, great buffets, perfect beach and lots of activities. The location of this resort was perfect! No weeds on our side of the beach. You can walk for hours on the beach, while listening to the waves.

Our favourite activity was the yoga from Sonia, (from NRG2GO a fitness instructor) who gave good classes with relaxing music. The yoga class had people from different backgrounds and ages, and we loved getting together and joining in as a group. Also, as the coronavirus began while we were there, we felt that the yoga exercises and meditation were helping us remain calm. There were 2 classes every day (morning and evening) and the outside location near the beach was heavenly. During yoga time, we would hear the birds chirping and providing a beautiful ambiance for relaxation. Almost a spa-like experience!

All the staff at the resort were touching and very warm. (especially Carlos, the entertainment manager). Our cleaning lady was super sweet. She would decorate our room with flowers every day, and towel patterns on our bed. These folks don’t make that much money, but they are so devoted to their work and excellence. We tipped her well as a way of appreciation for spreading their cheer and hard work.
The food at the buffet was full of diversity and delicious. Being vegetarian, we were impressed with their amazing assortment of dishes (always!). The staff was always quick to respond to every need and the manager would walk around each meal time to make sure everyone was taken care of.

During the virus scare, the resort was taking many precautions. They would mop sanitize the floors hundreds of times every day, especially with new tourists coming from around the world. You had to sanitize your hands before entering the buffet section (always). We were impressed with how professional the staff was in answering all our questions. They were always patient and understanding and provided excellent service. Overall, we give this resort 2 thumps up! We can’t wait to go back again.

If you are looking for a fairly quiet, family friendly well maintained clean resort with good food, amazing beach and good pools then this is a great place.

We traveled as a family the last week of January, the resort was very well kept, staff were accommodating,

Towels were changed in the room whenever we needed and there was no issues with the room being stocked with toilet paper, water and beer/soft drinks.

Quality of the drinks, in particular wine, was in keeping with what you'd expect for a Dominican resort, beer and mixed drinks were good.

Food was consistently good at the buffet and at the "Italian restaurant". We always found something to eat and had no issues with the quality.

I would suggest that travelers take some good quality bug spray as mosquitoes were around in the evening when sitting on our balcony. they were no worse than anywhere else I've been and no where near as bad as Ontario in the summer.

All in all, a very positive review, small, good value, clean, safe and quiet resort. The
beach is amazing and pools kid friendly.

If you are looking to party or meet singles, this is prob not the resort for you.

Would recommend for sure

We just got back from one week at the VH Gran. We made the decision to pay for the upgrade when we booked to the premium package. The Vintage club allowed for quiet time with no crowds and someone to serve you. Big thanks there to Eunice and Verenice for our special "tall tea" The renovated rooms were nice the bathroom tub could still use an upgrade but everything was clean. We were in room 2105 but thats still a bit close facing the pool for late night noise I'd recommend a higher number 2110 or higher on the first floor of that building. The private beach for premium was the best great service never had an issue finding a bed that's right a bed! We loved the fried chicken at the beach it was our go to for lunch we forgot to get the ladies name there that always served us with a great smile! The food and service was great loved the omelets and pasta bar great service from my wife's "handsome" waiter Louis Carlos! With the premium you get three alacarte restaurant bok them early we enjoyed the beef tenderloin at the one by the beach the best. All in all relaxing week, good food, great people, we would definitely come back.

Not even sure where to start. Food was amazing. A la carts were all good no complaints. Staff was hilarious. The Quiet pool but not the quiet bar were my favorite places to hang out. Jackie Juan and Santa back in the quiet bar were awesome. Very friendly and greeted us every morning. Coffee bar right outside our room we were back by the quiet bar. Pool fun was our afternoon entertainment everyday. Wide variety of age groups. Some kids not many. teenagers honeymooners, over 50 and seniors. Was easy to meet people as you saw them somewhere everyday. Rooms were tired but very clean. But who spends time in their room. Washrooms were cleaned all day long and never saw bugs or anything anywhere. I really can't say anything bad. Thanks for the memories.

Thank you Andre:) Room we requested to move after 2 nights was excellent faced to the ocean with excellent cleaning and restocking fridge. We paid for wifi and safe. Beach towels can exchange only after 3 pm but it was OK since always get new one to ready for next morning. Always can self serve with cap of tea or coffee. Thank you for make our pleasant vacation.
