Everyone we met of the staff were brilliant, the reception team couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The Reef restaurant staff were great and the food was probably the best we have had at an hotel in the Caribbean. The hotel is set in well kept grounds and has a strip of beach accessed directly from the building. The beach itself was raked daily by the watersports boys (who were always helpful and cheerful). If you have loungers on the beach, drinks are brought to you if you wish. The sea is beautiful and the beach itself is protected by a reef, so you can swim even when the tide is in or coming in as the bigger waves dissipate. Our room was an Ocean Front and was of a good size with a nice bathroom and a balcony overlooking the sea. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room, but many people prefer to go and make their own at the Driftwood Cafe and take it back to their rooms. There is no smoking in the rooms or balconies (although many Americans ignored this). You can walk the beach in either direction for miles if you wish and there are many cafes, shops etc along the way. Together with the Reef restaurant, there is Sizzle (a steak house) and Umi (a sushi restaurant) - you have a visit once every 7 days as part of the tarrif. For lunch there is also Colin's Bar which also serves drinks throughout the day. Would we go back - absolutely YES

Returned yesterday with my wife and 15 year old and can honestly say we loved it from start to finish.
Check in quite painless after our long flight (Club upgrade with BA certainly put us in a good mood mind you). Front desk always helpful and had a smile on their faces as did every single employee at Sugar Bay.
Our room faced the pool and was a really decent size for the 3 of us. Complimentary toiletries (The White Company) were an added bonus, and we were a stones throw from the pool, the bar and restaurant.
Hotel small and friendly and never seemed crowded even in Half Term week. Everything very cosy yet spread out enough, pool next to bar, and right on the beach. Just about enough sun beds, though pool area catered for only about 30 people I guess, beach many more. Pool on the small side and not very deep so very child friendly really. Beach was gorgeous and sea relatively calm and warm.
Food was good, especially Collins Bar for lunch and the two specialty restaurants Umi and Sizzling steakhouse were fantastic. Main self service restaurant didn’t have a great range of choices but food of decent enough standard so no complaints really. Bar staff on the whole quite attentive and drinks pretty good standard.
Evening entertainment much better than we expected, different acts most evenings, even if “Sweet Caroline” renditions by all acts started to get on our nerves a bit.
The location of the hotel was excellent, we did an independent island tour and went to Oistins on Friday night. The Barbadian people in general made this a great holiday, from the staff at Sugar Bay to the taxi drivers and people on the streets. It was so friendly and inviting everywhere we turned, no hassle, no stress.
I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to avoid the larger, less people orientated hotels, and we would love to go back again one day.

We chose Sugar Bay for our wedding venue so I started communicating with them in mid-December to work out details. It was going to be a very small wedding but they made us feel like we were a Prince and Princess getting married there. Communication for the wedding was by email since phone calls would be international. Questions were always answered promptly and even things that I thought of late in the planning process were accommodated. I still was a little anxious, arriving for a very special event without having face to face contact with anyone, The minute we arrived at Sugar Bay on the afternoon of February 6, 2020, we were greeted by the desk staff who already knew we were there to be married. The minute I spoke with the wedding coordinator, Keisha, all of my anxiety went away. Every detail was already planned, even the car to take us the following day to get our marriage license. I could go on and on about how well we were treated, we truly felt like celebrities. But honestly I think they make all of their guests feel that way. We were called by name when checking in for meals at Reef and usually got a hug from Arden!
The accomodations were perfect. We booked the honeymoon suite, which was beach front on the second level with an amazing view from the balcony. The room had a very comfortable king bed and plenty of storage space. A mini-fridge was available to use. The bathroom had a very spacious shower and double vanity and plenty of towel racks. You do have to request wash cloths, but after we did, they were replenished each day.
One of my favorite things is you receive a wristband upon checkin that serves as your room key. No more wondering if you have your key when you leave the room.
The food and drinks were fabulous. We ate at all available restaurants and had no complaints. The buffet changed daily, so the variety was excellent and definitely had something for everyone. The bartenders were all very accomodating when we were trying to experience a different flavor of drinks for the day. Help to arrange beach chairs and umbrellas was always just a few steps away and the view from the beach is amazing. You could choose to sit in the glorius sunshine, the shade of a coconut tree or cabana or a combination...wow.. I just want to go back!
Taxis or shuttles were very easy to arrange as well as excursions. They take care of so many details so you can enjoy your stay!
There is nightly entertainment during dinner time. But things quiet down relatively early, which for us was fine! There are no loud parties going on in the middle of the night!
I'm sure I've left out some details...but I promise you won't be disappointed!
We loved Barbados, we loved Sugar Bay and the Sugar Bay family. We definitely will go back... hopefully for our first anniversary next year!

There were elements in this hotel that correspond 4 star status: decor of the reception, well maintained grounds, security, professionalism of some staff, quality of food in two a la carte restaurants, and of course the quality of the beach which is the main selling point for this hotel I guess.

However we were disappointed by a number of issues that make us believe this hotel has yet to work to justify 4 star status.
1) lack of coordination between receptionists and sports instructors.
Hotel claims they run yoga and boxing classes, however they misinformed us on many occasions about day time and location of such classes, so we didn't have any physical activities promised. They assured to keep us informed but never did.we have contacted yoga teacher directly who said she was having time off and didn't even plan to come to the hotel on the days we have been promised. Boxing guy Jacob never materialised although we were waiting for him on 3 mornings. We didn't see any beach volleyball or tennis activities advertised on booking.com

2) poor breakfast. Lunch ok on some days, poor on the others.Filthy pigeons sitting on tables walking flying everywhere, snatching food , staff ignore them.
3) inconsistent cleaning of the rooms.we have asked for extra throws but they kept disappearing daily, we also had to phone reception as every day there were towels missing.

4)entertainment was only good on 2 nights ( Carribbean themed show and girl band virgo) the rest was very boring.for all inclusive, there was absolutely nothing to do after dinner. We have been promised a shuttle to oistins, but it has been cancelled due to lack of interest, although we spoke to 6 other people who asked the reception to organise transport for them! Be also aware that on most days there is only one person responsible for booking trips and a la carte dinners so there is always a que.
5) most members of staff have been friendly, staff in restaurant, Andrea and Derick at the bar. However, there were a few members who didn't say hello, you are welcome or smile, which was a bit uncomfortable

We stayed for a week at Sugar Bay after a cruise. The hotel had many good points but for us one major concern – pigeons. At breakfast and dinner at the restaurants one outside and the main one the reef the pigeons spoilt the meal. As empty tables were laid, left while people got their food or when they left there was a swoop of up to a dozen pigeons eating or drinking from the table. They even were landing on the buffet area eating cereals. Sorry the hotel needs to address this as a major issue. Many of the children at the hotel were intimidated by the birds sometimes landing on their table.
When we arrived we could not check in till 4pm although it was about 4.10 before our room was ready. We could however use all the hotel facilities and there was a room to change into beach ware if we wanted. Our room allocated was quite small with a very small wardrobe space and three lights in the room not working. When we complained we were upgraded to a family room (suite) on the top floor. The hotel handled any concerns very well in a friendly and efficient manner.
The buffet restaurant was a little cramped when busy but the food was at an acceptable standard. We ate at UMI (the Asian restaurant) and Sizzle (the steak house). Both were excellent and highly recommended. You can eat twice for staying a week, three times for ten days and four times for a fortnight. You can also eat there extra times by paying a supplement of $25 per person.
The Bar was basic with many drinks not available. No Vermouth or aperol. All soft drinks were from a pump with only diet coke available for mixers. Cocktails were from a large plastic container not freshly made. I also found annoying the fact that the coffee machine was switched off at 10pm every night.
Staff were friendly and helpful especially beach and bar staff. The service in the restaurant was mixed. Not being able to serve yourself orange juice at breakfast did nothing to help this situation.
The beach was good with fairly gentle currents with rocks taking the main thrust of the ocean. There were however rocks before you got into swimming depth so it may be worth wearing swimming shoes.
Overall I thought the hotel was OK but probably poor value for what we paid. If I returned I would go back to infinity on the beach (room only) and buy my food and drink outside the hotel.

We stayed for 12 nights and had the best time at Sugar Bay!
We arrived to a welcome refreshing towel and a strong rum punch and instantly went into holiday mode.
The hotel is in a perfect location for visiting the rest of the island, the beach and the Sugar Bay sun sets are just beautiful.
The staff are all friendly and helpful and work incredibly hard! From reception, cleaning, watersports guys to waitressing staff they cannot do enough to make your stay a happy one!
The restaurants Reef (buffet), Umi (made our 40th birthday celebrations very special see photo) Sizzle, and Collins were all excellent! The food here is fabulous (compliments to the chefs) we ate and drank so well, breakfast choice is amazing there is so much choice we loved the fresh fruit and freshly made omelettes in particular. The cocktails are strong and well made by the great bar staff. There is also a great coffee bar serving sweet treats and hot drinks all day and afternoon tea is at 4pm. You will never go thirsty or hungry during your stay!
A cinema viewing on the beach was a really memorable experience accompanied with drinks and warm popcorn!
There is a shuttle bus into Bridgetown and to Oistins Fish fry and the concierge and reception team are very friendly and helpful in offering advice on trips, taxis buses etc.
We also made use of the gym which was never busy but could use a little freshen up to be hones. The games room which we were always in alone was fun and worth a visit.
There is a horse racing track just along from the hotel and we were lucky enough to enjoy the gold cup event before we left which was great, you can also walk early in the morning (6.30am) to Pebble beach (left out of hotel) to watch the horses after training in the sea.
We had a perfect holiday and hope to be back, indeed many guests we chatted to have been going there for years. We enjoyed chatting at the bar with other guests and the entertainment each night was also very good.
The bar does close at 11am which is a little early for some, there is a pub but it is chilly and lacks the same atmosphere.
We did have an air conditioning issue which was leaking and causing damp in our room but the problem was very quickly resolved and lovely Krystal upgraded our room (232) which was so much better. I think some rooms are perhaps a little tired such as our first room (202)but they are renovating in September so hopefully this will be rectified. This is really the only negative thing I can say overall we absolutely loved Sugar Bay hotel and we hope to return. Book it you won’t be disappointed!

My wife and I have just so enjoyed a third consecutive January holiday at the wonderful Sugar Bay hotel on Barbados. Morgan Seale heads up a superb team of staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble and they seem to genuinely want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We were amazed just how many of them remembered not only our faces but our names too, from the moment we arrived to when we left. The service was so good that it would be unfair to pick out just a few names, but those who were truly exceptional know who they are.

We again treated ourselves to an oceanfront deluxe room and loved it. The food choices in the main Reef buffet restaurant were varied and of high quality and we enjoyed our four visits to the Sizzle speciality restaurant too at no extra cost.

The hotel’s private beach is as lovely as ever and the beach boys made sure we had umbrellas for shade. The south coast location means you can walk along the beach in both directions and the hotel is far enough away from the airport not to be troubled by any noise, but near enough for a relatively short transfer time.

The live entertainment each evening was of a good quality, with the girl band Virgo, who tend to appear on Sundays, perhaps the best. The service from the bar staff was excellent too and we found it great that the main bar closed at 11pm, which meant that the hotel became very quiet soon after, which suited us just fine. The discreet security presence meant we felt very safe at all times.

In short, truly superb and we are sure we shall return at some stage.

Lovely clean and recently refurbished hotel in lovely location with long sandy beach, you can walk along several beaches into Bridgetown ( about 45 minutes ), lots of local buses to come back on including the local reggae bus which runs every few minutes and will stop anywhere on route if sapce is available. Friendly staff and 2 excellent speciality restaurants which you can eat at each one once a week or for a 25 dollar supplement each more often and well worth it, otherwise it is the buffet which a lot of guests seem quite happy with? We though that some of the food was overcooked particuarly the fish, also not enough healthy options at breakfast, lots of melon but grilled tomatoes only twice in 8 days and 5 choice of cereal but we had to request raisin bran and no museli ( again a lot of guests seem to like sugary cereal and deep fried fish balls for breakfast? Good evening entertainment with live music most nights and a well appointed bar near the buffet and music. A really enjoyable stay.

We have just returned from a lovely 11 night honeymoon at sugar bay. This place is amazing! Paradise in fact. This was my first time in Barbados and will definitely be returning.

All inclusive was amazing. Any cocktails you want making then Andre is your man!! He is an amazing person and a credit to Sugar Bay as well as Helen and Derek. Actually all the staff were amazing. They can't do enough for you and always asked how your day was going no matter how busy they were. We enjoyed the Collins Bar for lunch, burgers, hot dogs, chips. Very good. The Steak house is also a must! The food was amazing. Go for the fillet!!

The entertainment at night was good. Singers, dancers etc. However after 10pm it went a little quiet and people seemed to go back to their rooms. But this didn't bother us. We were there for a chill out anyway and early nights meant early mornings to catch the sun :) The beach is were we would go for the amazing view and the sea breeze.

The rooms are amazing and always clean and the beds are so comfy! another thing that i was impressed with was our all inclusive band was also our room key so there were no messing about in the bottom of your bag trying to find the room key! Very good idea!

I would recommend a trip to Harbour lights and a Friday night at Oistins. Also our travel agents advised us to take US Dollars. Unsure why as everywhere took Barbados dollars. Everyone were so friendly, from the taxi drivers to the locals!!

All in all an amazing holiday and would definitely recommend. Cannot wait to return!!

Thanks Sugar Bay!

Enjoyed a really good and excellent value holiday at the Sugar Bay which is beautifully situate right on a spotless beach.Notable pluses included very friendly staff, a fantastic room overlooking the sea/beach and which was kept impeccably clean by housekeeping, very good food in the Reef buffet restaurant (open for 3 meals a day) ,Colin’s beach bar and the two speciality restaurants for which you have to book ,and, in particular,Sizzle the steak restaurant where the food was really first rate.Alongside the very good food on offer the bar service was excellent and given that the hotel was all inclusive it was very noticeable that premium brands in generous measures were readily available.

My only gripes were relatively minor. First the appalling insistence of a number of my fellow Brits to feel the need to get up before 6.00 am to reserve a sun bed by the pool. The hotel advertised the fact that such behaviour would not be tolerated but then failed to take any action whatsoever. In fact there there are ample sun beds on the beach and which is itself a very short distance from all the facilities.Secondly, the hotel WiFi which did not work anywhere other than in the vicinity of the reception area and which after a while was fine once you got use to the situation but it was somewhat comical to hear reception staff repeatedly tell new guests that there was a temporary technical problem which was being fixed. …

The resort is very very small so you should have no issue. I think I saw an elevator in the main building but there are main floor rooms with ocean view. The only long distance walk would be to the steakhouse (up stairs and close to the main road), or the pub bar and blush cafe. (Also upstairs and close to the main road) it’s quite the trek for those three. The main restaurants are all nearby, reef (buffet), umi (sushi) and Collin’s (beach grill) The pool is maybe 100 ft from the beach. Hope this helps!
