Hotel Riu Gran Canaria garners high marks for its cleanliness, with guests consistently impressed by the pristine rooms and public spaces. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music and entertainment, is a hit, although some guests find the volume excessive at times. While rooms are generally comfortable and well-kept, noise can be an issue, particularly during certain events. The array of amenities, including diverse dining options and pools, adds to the hotel's appeal. Its excellent location close to the beach and local attractions is lauded by visitors, as is the commendable service provided by the friendly staff. However, opinions on value for money vary, with some suggesting room for enhancement.

We booked a ten day break through Tui.
Having stayed on previous occasions I was able to both arrange a room directly with reception in our preferred location, and make speciality restaurant reservations for the duration of our stay prior to our arrival

Very sensibly, access to the Infinity pool is not available until 7.15 am, which ties in nicely with the opening of the Atlantico restaurant at 7.30 am for breakfast.

In the evenings, the bar becomes very congested and noisy. We consider it to be well worthwhile to go next door to the bar at the Riu Palace, where for the price of a drink or two, you can spend the time being entertained, and enjoy the waiter service in a very relaxed atmosphere.

We stayed for 6 nights in a Family Room with garden and sea view on an All Inclusive basis. We were very impressed with the Covid regime within the hotel. Temperature checks every time entering the hotel or any of the restaurants and hand sanitiser everywhere. Plus the wearing of face masks is strictly policed.

All staff are very friendly and helpful.

The room was very comfortable, modern and very clean.

The food in the main buffet restaurant was typical of RIU. Breakfast was good with a large choice of hot and cold options. Dinner was disappointing, once again a large choice but uninspiring, cheap and tasteless food. Plenty of it to not be hungry but boring. Also the restaurant is more akin to a noisy canteen with the staff creating so much noise with the crashing of plates and cutlery as they clear tables. Wine and beer is self service, on tap.

We booked for 2 specialty dinners in the Atlantic restaurant, Canary and Grill. The Canary buffet was ok but once again, uninspiring. The Grill buffet was not good at all, poor quality and limited choice so we ended up going back to the main buffet restaurant where there is more choice.

The poolside snack food at Pepe’s Food was very poor, tasteless, dry burgers and hot dogs with no trimmings, chewy skewered meet and fries, and chicken nuggets akin to breaded pencil erasers!

Overall the food is cheap, poor quality and tasteless but there is a lot of it.

The Asian restaurant Kaori, which requires a reservation, featured the tastiest food and is a must to relieve the monotony of the main buffet restaurants.

The service at the bars is quick, efficient and friendly. The main bar of an evening has limited seating so unless you get there early you have to stand if you want to see the live entertainment.

The pools, gardens and terraces are spotlessly clean and well maintained. Social distancing rules are in place but this didn’t present any issues. The main adult pool area with the infinity pool is very busy with guests reserving the limited number of sun beds from very early on.

The location of the hotel is very good with shops and Maspalomas beach approx 10 mins walk away.

In spite of the poor quality food and uninspiring dining experience, we had a great holiday and would actually return to the hotel again.

Great location we visited at the begining of july there weather was perfect, definetly have everything in the hotel area, so you dont really need to go out for anything besides local attractions. perfect for a relaxing week with unlimited alcohol. The staff are very friendly, food is ok just getting tired of it after a while being almost the same. very quite even with families in it, you get the adult pool section where you can keep you distance in case it bothers you which was perfect with the view. I do think the room could use a renovation - the pillows felt old and done, and the mattress on the one side had kind of a big dent sinking in. Room service was perfect, we went for breakfast ususally around 8:30-9:00 and by the time we came back the room was already made up also very quite we couldnt hear outside noises when sleeping so we loved it. The hotel brings medical team for 1 hour a day usually 13:00-14:00 for pcr/antigen tests (antigen 35euro) so you dont need to go anywhere. felt very safe with covid since they always sanitized everything and cleaned it all after each use. Sun beds by the pool gets taken early by putting a towel on them, take in mind in case you want to sit close to the water, not ideal but it is what it is just put your towel there on your way to breakfast.

Stayed here for 2 weeks in late December ( still here ! ). Firstly I’d advise everyone to download the Rui App, makes everything easier.

Check in was very efficient, they require to see your Covid results ( not just the bar code ). The food is excellent and very varied, if you’ve read that it’s same same every time then it’s from picky eaters. More than enough variety so you can eat differently everyday. The waiting staff are very efficient and courteous.
The bars have a wide selection of drinks including some premium spirits ( no extra charge ). They are also courteous and efficient.

Throughout the property you are required to wear a mask unless sat down at a table / seating area. The staff will constantly remind you ( and rightly so ) if you try walking around without one. Hand sanitizer is widely available throughout the hotel. The public area is cleaned regularly and so are the sun beds.

The infinity pool for me is a let down but only because ignorant people put the towels down early even though the hotel says they shouldn’t. Easy way round this would be to throw everything pre 8 am in a bin unless they are using them.

Live music is on every night but personally this is a let down as it’s very monatone and even though the performers are talented for me they don’t create any atmosphere.
I haven’t downgraded the hotel for the entertainment as it’s just my personal taste.
There is a inner stage area with big seating area, I would suggest you putting MTV 80s on the big screen for people who just want some background music.

I would certainly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. The attitude of all the staff is a credit to the RIU brand and for that I would like to thank them.

After last year's visit we thought we would give this hotel another chance.
"Good Move"
The hotel still has a few faults but nothing to be concerned about.
This year's room was perfect and very spacious and we really appreciated the upgrade after last year's review.
We didn't take part in the evening entertainment much but that was down to our choice nothing to do with the hotel. As we were on the fourth floor we could see plenty people having fun on the dance floor.
Pool areas were excellent and clean
Restaurants had a great selection at the buffet but if you liked to eat late sometimes the food was getting a bit cold but still safe.
Taxi rank outside at the gate if you wanted to escape to see more of the island with the bus station 5 mins down the road.
For us it was a good base for what we like to do.
Although it was all inclusive we still had lunch out where ever we ended up each day and ate out our last two nights to try something different, after all it is a holiday!!
The hotel is very big and has many staff that caters for all the guests, which they successfully do and deserve to be mentioned.
To sum up,
Good hotel
Good food
Good staff
What more can you ask for from an all inclusive hotel.

Just back from a near perfect 11 night stay. The hotel is very clean, very welcoming, spacious and the staff are great. Our room on the second floor looking onto the main road wasn’t an issue which was quiet and got a glimpse of the sea, our room was still slightly dated and looked too have had a “cheap” makeover, the furniture was tatty and could have done with it replacing with quality for longevity. The bed was very comfy and we got a queen sized bed as requested, not too separate ones pushed together. Bathroom was very dated and a picture of full sized women plastered on the wall slightly off putting in a quality hotel we found this was a little bit sleezy. The hotel made sure we had a covid test certificate on arrival and I hope they continue to enforce this, they make you wear a mask everywhere you go when you move about the hotel only exception when eating or drinking, sunbathing and swimming, and for those who don’t or can’t abide by this, stay away! Congratulations to the hotel on enforcing such strict hygiene measures, including temperature checks and hand sanitiser everywhere. Pools were absolutely freezing, I would suggest that they should be heated to a certain temperature for the winter months. Sun beds were taken early, before 7am, typically people putting towels on sun beds and not coming to them for hours and hours. Food in the main restaurant was excellent for every day of our stay except the Christmas Day gala meal. Was no structure too it, was a hassle and had to book a table and the food on offer especially the meat and the joints being carved were raw. However as this seemed to ruin the Christmas Day gala meal the food available at every other day was of excellent quality and was always hot and fresh. Drinks were served out of plastic cups with no straws which I know is a good thing on the long term sustainability for single plastic use but during covid I don’t think so. Single use cups and cutlery should be an absolute must for us! Surely it’s better to be safe than sorry! However drinks are of a good variety, good quality branded alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available foc as well as a good selection of cocktails and tea and coffee. We already want to return and will look to book again in the near future.

Super hotel. Room we stayed in looked quite newly decorated with good facilities, anything we didn’t have but required e.g. an iron was quickly brought to us which was very helpful. Rooms were cleaned brilliantly every day however the restocking of bottled water/the mini bar was quite sporadic, this was annoying as meant you had to ask. Another minor complaint are the paper thin walls you can hear everything through. We were awoken by cleaning people and babies and could hear other people just talking. Staff were generally really friendly, especially the younger ones and particularly in the Atlantic restaurant like Austin (I think his name was) but some of the older staff at the purple bar not so much. Sara in reception was also lovely in particular at check in. In general the location is great a short taxi ride away from hustle and bustle and a walk to shops and restaurants, however with no beach and nothing much to do some may see it as a little quiet/boring. There was a good choice of food, maybe not always of the highest standard but what you expect from all inclusive, there was never anything missing and was always hot and fresh. Staff cleared tables quickly and meals worked well and are served long hours nearly all day. We liked the choice of places to eat, we mainly favoured the Atlantic restaurant, which you needed to book, but this was easy to do on the app and we managed to get in there 3/7 nights. The Asian everyone reviewed highly and is constantly booked up wasn’t great in our eyes. One major issue for us was the quality of drinks, it was so poor. All just tasted like sugar or very cheap and odd and barely had any alcohol content. Not that we wanted to just drink but on holiday in the evening it’s nice to enjoy a few drinks that are drinkable and have some effect. Some more information at check in about hotel etiquette e.g. what to do at dinner would have been helpful. The entertainment day and night was super, not all suited to us but something for everyone and generally good quality. In the day the pools were lovely but people saving chairs with towels stupidly early became annoying and made it very hard to ever get a spot by the adult infinity pool. Overall good experience but would happily pay more for better drinks!

Currently on 4th day of holiday after returning from a visit last December. Since then and during covid restrictions my wife have been fortunate enough to stay in a Tui Blue hotel in Greece where the standards were far higher in relation to staying safe than those of this hotel. I can confirm that this hotel does check your temperature when going in and out of the hotel and sometimes at dinner not all times. The big difference in the 2 hotels is that the Tui hotel also had you wearing gloves in their restaurant and therfore you were not touching any of the utensils. The other big advantage in the Tui hotel was all the cutlery were in closed bags and again only the person opening them had access to this not like the Riu having everyone touching all spoons knives forks etc. To be honest I know times are not the same of last December but the food quality, entertainment etc has not been of the same quality. Both my wife and I are extremely disappointed this year and unfortunately won't be back in the future.

My husband and I chose this hotel to get away after November lockdown. Check in was fine and we made our way to our room which had a partial sea view which we didn’t expect. The room I have no complaints about at all, clean, everything worked well, minibar restocked every two days, towels and bedding changed as often as you want. Shower worked well. Shower gel, hand sanitiser and soap supplied. There is a ceiling fan plus air conditioning. The room was a little dated though we didn’t really mind.

The pool area is big, the first few days were fairly quiet and we were able to find beds in the adults area overlooking the sea and near the pool bar, it was lovely., the sun beds had space between them so you weren’t too close to others. The drinks are okay, pre mixed cocktails though they have Tanqueray and Beefeater gin, plus Prosecco and lots of other choices. There is a snack bar at the pool which has burgers, hotdogs, chips, chicken. The hotel was never busy though it became busier, people started putting towels down early making it difficult to fund a bed in the adult area, we had a few days sitting at the main pool, which was fine though we did prefer the adults only area. On the last day I watched the sun go down over the sea from the adults area, it was lovely to see.

The main restaurant is the only concern I have about the hotel, the food is really good though you serve yourself and all guests handle the same serving spoons, there is hand sanitiser to use though it would be better and perhaps safer if you were served. There are inside and outside areas to sit.

All the restaurants have the same issue though the food is very good in the Asian restaurant in particular, it was my birthday the second time we went and they were aware of this and we had special attention that night as soon as we went in. We also was given a bottle of Prosecco in the room on my birthday, which I know is available on the all inclusive though it was a nice surprise touch after a day at the pool.

At night there was live music in the semi outside bar, the duo Ebony and Ivory were particularly enjoyable. Inside was bingo and karaoke and a games room if you prefer that sort of thing. The pool bar is open till 11pm too though we didn’t go at night time so I can’t comment.

The hotel is very strict with people having to wear face coverings, if you forgot they would send you back from the bar to put it on whilst they poured your drinks. You have your temperature taken going into the restaurant at breakfast and dinner and any time you leave and come back into the hotel.

The location is on the edge of Maspalomas and Meloneras so you can walk to either resort quite easily bearing in mind you have to wear a face covering and it can feel hot.

We had a lovely 11 days, a but of a shock after first week when the quarantine was brought in when going back to the UK, I guess it’s a chance you take if you chose to holiday during a pandemic.

This was a last minute booking after our Fuerteventura holiday was cancelled. We arrived the last week of July not sure what to expect with the Covid restrictions but can honestly say the holiday experience was not depleted at all by the Covid rules. We was temperature checked everytime you enter the hotel grounds via the main entrance plus before you enter any restaurant for breakfast or evening meal. There are hand sanitizing stations everywhere and the staff squirt some on your hands before you are allowed in to the restaurants. The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean and whilst sunbathing by the pool one day i observed a member of staff meticulously disinfecting 100s of metal light poles that line the grounds! Tables were social distanced and easy to follow one way systems. There was plenty of choice of food to cater for all. 2 large pools and a smaller one round the side if you want a bit less noise and more space. Hotel leads straight down to the promenade through a door that is open through the daytime with a security guard ensuring no one comes in that shoul'nt and ensuring you sanitise your hands. Evening entertainment was mostly outside and was good enough to keep you entertained whilst enjoying a drink or a game of cards with friends and family. The beach is rocky in front of hotel but there is a small beach 10 mins walk if you turn right on the promenade or a large sandy beach if turning left and again only a 10 min walk, both walks are pleasant, especially in the evenings you get a beautiful sunset. Staff were lovely and very helpful and we hope to return when Covid is less of an issue
