There is an obvious lack of security control.
Dealt with two of the reception staff throughout my stay.
As it was before check-in time, the first guy took our bags and gave us the number tags.
When we got back at night, the first guy had already gone off from his shift and one of my backpacks was missing. When I raised the issue, we were informed that the hotel premises are being shared with other offices and private homes so there would be many outsiders coming in and out and they were not in control of that. (Even so, everyone's stuff were placed RIGHT beside the staircase at the entrance (wow))
We asked to see the CCTV, and were again told that there is only a CCTV at the reception (because, you know, nobody cares about crimes they don't have to see - or in this case, don't want to be responsible for) but it would not have shown the luggage area (wow again).
The night shift guy was helpful though, and tried to call his colleague (the one who helped us to get our bags) to find out more details. His colleague actually remembered (wow again and again) that I had a backpack, but insisted I carried it out with me (sure, just like how I'm sure my backpack must have magically dissipate into air... ... ...).
So we asked him to check the CCTV (since he said there was a CCTV at the reception, beside the entrance) and from the CCTV, he would see that i DID NOT carry out a backpack with me. But yet again, we were told that the CCTV was only realtime and NOT LIVE (so it doesn't record), and they only used it to see that guests actually went up to their rooms at that point in time. (WOW. So if, someone dropped off an unidentified package containing dangerous items, no one would ever know what happened once all our fates are sealed then - meh? Who cares right? It's just our lives and basic security at stake. And if someone intentionally distracted the reception to commit some crime, no evidence would be left at all. Nothing.)
The location is good indeed, but the security fails thoroughly and I hope all future guests know what risk they are facing by staying here.
The staff were friendly the cleaners helpful the rooms spotless.
We didn't book a seperate bathroom as we thought it would be like bedsit land, having seen the layout it wouldn't bother me as the bathroom is just o/s the room.
Excellent location. Las ramblas 2 min walk, metro 5 min walk.
we arrived at night and thought it looked like a dingy back street, wrong...in the daytime looked so different.
I would say loaction wise more like a 4*
We paid at the end of our stay, security was excellent, during the evening you buzzed the door and security would let you in, the desk was manned at all times by security.
We left our cases in reception and had no fears they would be 'taken',
For a visit to the city it really is well worth the money, everything on your door step.
Nice little tea shop next door, Ate at the La Minerva restuarant opposite, do not go, overpriced food for €20, photos on tripadviser restuarants, was an awful place.
WiFi a bit hit and miss, but you could use the pc there, think about an hour for a couple of euros.

Whenever you leave, you don't take your key with you, but you leave it with the front desk which was new for me (maybe protecting against pickpickets?). The room was clean, and they had these little vending machines that served drinks including lemon tea which I liked.
This place is a great value, and I would gladly stay there again.
Pros
-Location: Extremely convenient location to Las Ramblas. Within 2-3 minutes, you are right on the main drag.
-Price: Very inexpensive as it cost us $65 Euro a night.
-English Speaking: All of the hotel clerks were friendly and able to speak English and help us navigate the city.
-Free Wifi: This was a great perk that we did not anticipate.
Cons
-Amenities: Like I mentioned, this is an extremely small hotel. We took the (somewhat sketchy) elevator to our room on the 5th floor. You enter the room, which is composed entirely of your bed. The attached bathroom is a decent size (for Europe), and there was a hairdryer. However, no breakfast was provided (unusual in Europe) and no additional frills (toiletries, etc.).
Tips
All in all, we wanted to save money on our accommodations, and I think Hotel Aneto was a great way to go. It was clean, cheap and very close to where we wanted to be. We were able to take the Aerobus from the airport, which costs $5,75 Euros and drops you off in Placa Catalunya. Walk south on Las Ramblas for about 5 minutes, and turn right by the church on Carme and Hotel Aneto is about 4-5 minutes up on the right hand side. It’s a very nondescript building. They will ask you for your passport (common across Europe) and also ask you to turn in your key when you leave. There is always someone at the front desk to give it back to you when you return. As first time visitors to Barcelona, we loved the location, but in the future may stay somewhere a little less touristy (Las Ramblas). However, for what we needed, we found this to be a great value!
I am rating it three stars because it is by no means a fancy hotel, and I don't want to give that impression. However, it was perfect for what we needed, and I highly recommend it for those interested in a cheap but safe hotel.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, and Barcelona itself for a break away.
