🐟🦈🐟 Just keep swimming, just keep swimming 🐟🐟 Happy Shark Awareness Day! If you’ve ever swam in the ocean, you’ve probably swam with a shark. Massachusetts is home to more than a dozen shark species, ranging from the small spiny dogfish to massive whale sharks. Just like us, and many other species around the world, climate change is affecting their habitat. Ocean waters are warming, sending these magnificent creatures on the move, heading farther north. 🌡️ 🌎 Visit the link in to learn how The Nature Conservancy is taking action against climate change: https://lnkd.in/e8URgW_B #SharkWeek #SharkAwarenessDay #ClimateChange © Justin Bruhn/TNC Photo Contest 2019

What do you know about #offshorewind? It can be difficult to get your head around this complicated topic, but we do know that it is a critical energy resource that will steer us away from our reliance on fossil fuels, which will help mitigate climate change. The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts is partnering with Tricia Jedele and our colleagues along the Atlantic coast to host a monthly seven-part webinar series that will help answer some of the most challenging questions we have about offshore wind—questions about impact on our communities and species living near prospective sites, where and how sites are identified, cost, and more. Join us for the first episode on July 18, where we'll be joined by Sarah K. and Susan Muller to learn about recent analyses on why offshore wind is key for New England. I hope you can join us: https://lnkd.in/eWkM-zaw

Offshore wind is a complex topic that raises numerous questions. From its environmental impact to the economic feasibility, there’s much to explore. TNC invites you to join us for a seven-part series on offshore wind, where experts in the field will convene to provide insight into the complexities of this topic, from environmental impacts to economic considerations. Join us on Thursday, July 18, 12 p.m. ET, as we hear from Sarah Krame, Staff Attorney with Sierra Club Environmental Law Program, and Susan Muller, Senior Energy Analyst of Union of Concerned Scientists, to learn about the results of their recent analyses on why offshore wind is so important for New England, especially during the winter, and how it can reduce energy costs for New England ratepayers. Mayan ruins blend with contemporary villages and towns in 14 diverse ecological-regions, making Guatemala one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Last winter, Liz Pearce, TNC in Massachusetts’ associate director of development, took part in a Latin America learning series which culminated in a trip to Guatemala. TNC in Guatemala is partnering with local communities to achieve our 2030 goals, focusing on agroforestry, water funds and indigenous-led protected areas. During the trip, Liz met with local partners, visited farms, and engaged with local forest-protecting communities. 🌿🌎 #Conservation #Guatemala

In collaboration with Baltimore poet Kondwani Fidel and artist Saba Hamidi, TNC's Baltimore Program has produced a new animated short film 'To The Jungles That Be', which highlights how people experience nature differently depending on where they grow up and whether they have access to healthy natural environments. 🌳🏙 The film is being used to start conversations in urban and underserved communities to better understand their relationship to nature and their interest in participating in Maryland’s Tree Solutions Now Act, which aims to plant 5 million trees in the state by 2031 with 500,000 in urban and underserved communities. The film can be viewed on www.tothejungles.com, where users are also invited share their stories and experiences of nature. How do we depend on a healthy ocean? 🌊 The ocean provides half of Earth's oxygen! The ocean is the heart of the planet. 🩵🐟 The ocean is the heart of the planet. It circulates life's vital elements—pumping oxygen, nutrients, water and weather around the globe. We must relieve the pressure on the ocean by protecting ocean habitats, restoring healthy fish populations and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. #OceanConservation #OceanHealth #MassNature © Jordan Robins /TNC Photo Contest 2019
