Delaware's largest Atlantic White Cedar Tree was discovered at our Ponders Tract Trail System. These trees provide critical habitat to endangered species like the Hessel's Hairstreak Butterfly, a species recently spotted at our preserve. On Sunday, the last day of our state’s legislative session for the year, the Delaware Energy Solutions Act passed! We now have a path forward to a cleaner, greener energy future in the First State. This bill, SB 265, creates an offshore wind procurement process for Delawareans to access wind #energy off our coast and work with neighboring states to bring offshore wind power to our region. A statement from Lori Brennan, Executive Director of TNC PA/DE: "The Nature Conservancy applauds the House's passage of SB 265, the #Delaware Energy Solutions Act. The expansion of #sustainable clean-energy solutions is critically important to the fight against #ClimateChange, and #OffshoreWind is an important tool as we work to build a cleaner, greener future for Delaware. Thank you to Sen. Hansen, Rep. Heffernan and everyone who worked so hard to make this bill a reality." Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to overturn the Chevron doctrine will present challenges to preserving the many decades of progress we have made in protecting people and the planet. It will have major implications for implementing and enforcing laws related to such issues as air pollution, public lands management and endangered species protection. The decision impacts the ability of federal agencies to take the actions needed to successfully implement laws enacted by Congress. That is concerning, given the deep scientific expertise and practical experience they have in implementing and enforcing these laws, many which relate to complex and ambiguous issues.
