Can we train our minds to hurt us less? For years, I've been writing letters to my future self, not fully understanding what I was doing or why 😜 What I did know was that the letters were always uncannily kind and clear.  And, unlike what happens when I write for an audience (like this one!) they flow effortlessly, like a seamless exhale. Recently Elizabeth Gilbert helped me name the magic of what was happening: I've been writing letters from Love. 💌 Watching liz popularize this practice with her magical Substack community has been deeply inspiring. She invites us all to become channels for Love in a space that might just be the most beautiful corner of the internet. ✨ Here's what I've discovered through this practice: 🔔 Tapping Deeper Wisdom: When I pause and truly listen, I become a vessel for something beyond my intellect—deeper, truer, and wiser. 💛 Cultivating Self-Compassion: It's a profound exercise in silencing the self-sensoring inner critic and turning up the volume on the kinder voices (they're in there too!) ✅ Building Accountability: These letters help hold me accountable to the one who matters: myself. What if our goals aren't actually the goal? 🤔 For years, I've replaced New Year's resolutions with letters to my future self. These letters – always kind, clear, and emerging like a seamless exhale –  have been a profound practice in self-compassion and accountability (to the right stuff). What I didn’t realize until recently is that what I’ve been writing are actually letters from Love. 💌 It’s been such a delight to watch Elizabeth Gilbert popularize the practice through her magical substack, Letters from Love.  I’d venture to say it’s the most beautiful and healing spot on the internet 💛 Through the years I’ve learned that when I pause, get quiet and *really* listen, I become a vessel for something deeper truer and wiser than anything I could download from my intellect alone.  Liz is inviting us all to become channels for Love—the most life (and world) changing practice I know. ✨ Last week, I wrote a response to her prompt about goals – this one simply flowed, like the truest things tend to do. "Set a course and sense the destination; success flows from an intention, a way of being, a feeling available NOW, not in some distant future. It's about navigation, not arrival. Now, not then. Love, not attachment. Your compass, not the map. The light, not the house." Sharing this definitely was not my goal (!) but if it can be of service to others, then it's worth the leap of faith…. #LettersFromLove #LeadingOutLoud #LearningOnPurpose

There's a coherence to the way some people show up in the world -- and when it's clear, it's contagious. These two women, Melinda French Gates and Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, inspire me to no end. They not only walk the talk....they preach only what they already practice. At The Flight School we're helping our NextGen leaders learn from luminaries who are modeling a new mode of leadership -- one that blends head and heart, confidence and humility, intellect and intuition. I love Melinda's tips on wellbeing: find your people, and commit to the practice. Bravo to Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy for taking this courageous, potentially life-saving step. Until now, the burden of social media regulation has unreasonably been placed on parents and kids. With technology (and its Terms & Conditions) changing almost daily, it’s impossible for adults (let alone kids) to truly understand what we're signing up for when we log on. According to a recent Gallup survey, U.S. teens are spending roughly 4.8 (!!!) hours per day on social media platforms. And while there's a debate raging about the specific impacts this has, one thing is unequivocal: "The mental health crisis among young people is an emergency — and social media has emerged as an important contributor." Warning labels won’t make social media better, but they're a first step toward helping us use it mindfully. Why do we talk about confidence and humility as though they’re opposites? In my experience, we need the two to grow in equal proportion. This graphic from Tim Urban (c/o Nicholas Thompson) nails it. What gets you into your humility sweet spot?
