The current headline hype linking social media to mental health issues is HIGH. 📢 🚨 Many politicians and talking heads are jumping to link the two as if there aren't many other factors to consider; family dynamics, lack of independence, and economic uncertainty, to name a few. As much as technology is part of the problem, it's also part of future solutions. Roughly half of all people suffering from psychiatric and mental health disorders don’t use or cannot be helped by medications. In a time when many bemoan our healthcare system’s eagerness to prescribe meds for every problem, my inner geek is celebrating this week's episode of Make Sense with Dr. Brian E Wallace MD PhD MBA, Chief Medical Officer. 📣 📣 The Society for Digital Mental Health is putting out a call for flash talks and poster submissions for 2024 📣 📣 (Link in comments) After speaking at the 2023 conference, I'm getting involved and part of this year's conference planning committee. The conversation around digital mental health is as relevant as ever, especially with the recent explosion of mental health GPT's. If you've done some recent work you'd like highlighted in this interdisciplinary space, I highly recommend you submit. (And on a personal note, if it's health equity related, I doubly highly recommend it!) Descriptions of the submissions-- Flash talks (5 minutes each): While we welcome submissions on any topic tied to digital mental health, priority will be given to proposals showcasing innovative digital mental health approaches that address the needs of diverse, underserved, or low-income populations.
