💲California’s subsidy system is a source of income for #childcare providers, including eligible Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) caregivers. Thanks to funding from the California Health Care Foundation, two new programs are being developed to expose possibilities and opportunities for applicants to pharmacy school in California’s central San Joaquin Valley. The University of California, Merced - University of California, San Francisco BS to PharmD Program is designed to remove structural barriers with an expedited program for UC Merced students, while the PharmTech-to-PharmD program takes a proactive step toward upskilling pharmacy technicians. Both programs aim to reduce the health care disparities of pharmacy deserts by cultivating interest in—and opening multiple pathways for—pharmacy careers among underserved communities. https://lnkd.in/gZW6SP5n

Earlier this week, I appeared on KUSI to discuss San Diego homelessness solutions. To help the unhoused population, I think it is important to offer individualized treatment, so that we can "meet people where they are." I also think we should provide a full continuum of care to those whom are receiving treatment and support. Today, Mee Memorial Healthcare System stands with the rural communities of Monterey County in strong support of Senate Bill 1423. This crucial bill proposes vital changes to the Medi-Cal program that will significantly impact critical access hospitals (CAHs) and their ability to serve rural Californians effectively. Across California, 37 CAHs tirelessly provide essential medical services to rural communities. Despite their pivotal role, these hospitals face financial challenges due to inadequate reimbursement rates for inpatient and outpatient services under the current Medi-Cal structure, which fails to cover the actual costs of care. New Regulations are being proposed for California law SB600, which "codified the California Department of Managed Health Care's (DMHC) position that fertility preservation services for iatrogenic infertility were a 'basic health care service' and, therefore, had to be covered by certain insurers when medically necessary." Since this bill's passage in late 2019, there have been inconsistencies in and "wrongful denials" of coverage for fertility preservation services due to the vagueness of SB600. Alliance for Fertility Preservation raised concerns about how SB600 was being interpreted and worked with DMHC to clarify this bill's coverage. All stakeholders caring about fertility preservation are encouraged to review the proposed regulations and submit feedback to the DMHC by April 23, 2024. *These regulations are issued by the DMHC. The regulations aren't applicable to other insurance plans such as ERISA policies, Medicare, Medi-Cal, etc. https://ow.ly/8Aq850RjT0p
