Proudly representing the nonprofit hospice and palliative care community.
About us
The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) is a membership organization comprising 100+ not-for-profit, community-integrated hospice and palliative care providers. These members are dedicated to ensuring patients and their families have access to care that reflects their individual goals, values, and preferences. Representing providers from across the United States, NPHI and its members help design more innovative and effective models of care, advocate for comprehensive and community-integrated care customized to meet each person’s unique needs, and build collaboration between national thought leaders, decision-makers, and other healthcare stakeholders to improve hospice care. Together with our members, we ensure our most important priorities, policies and initiatives are learned at the bedside, not in the board room. To learn more about NPHI, or find a mission-driven, community-based advanced illness provider nearby, please visit our website at www.hospiceinnovations.org, or call 844-GET-NPHI (438-6744).

We recently collaborated with anti-domestic violence advocacy group NO MORE to unveil a resource guide to help strengthen public understanding of traumatic experiences and their impact on end-of-life outcomes. “This resource is invaluable for staff members and family caregivers alike, providing vital information and practical steps to take when abuse is suspected,” Tom Koutsoumpas, NPHI CEO told Hospice News. “The guide offers a comprehensive understanding of domestic violence, elder abuse and neglect among seriously ill seniors.” "The alarming prevalence of these issues calls for increased awareness, better screening practices and stronger support networks. It’s time to take collective action to ensure that every individual can live free from fear and harm" - Pamela Zaballa, NO MORE CEO. "We need to normalize this issue and bring it out of the closet. Being a voice empowers us not to keep this to ourselves and that it doesn’t define us, it’s just a chapter of life" - Carole Fisher, NPHI President. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eRm92nNx

Check out our new Caregiver Experience Questionnaire, designed to help hospices identify the most effective ways to support caregivers throughout their journey. This innovative tool enables case managers to categorize caregivers into one of four archetypes. Based on each archetype’s specific needs, it then recommends tailored service offerings and communication strategies. Developed from the NPHI-led study "Caregiver Experiences and Perceptions of Declining Health," with valuable input from case managers and nursing leaders, this questionnaire is a game-changer in providing personalized support to caregivers. With the increasing acquisitions of nonprofit hospices, NPHI's CEO, Tom Koutsoumpas, shared a statement with Hospice News. “NPHI firmly believes that not-for-profit, community-based end-of-life care providers deliver the highest-quality care in the nation. These organizations put people over profits by providing the full complement of care for those in declining health,” Tom said in a statement emailed to Hospice News. ”It is therefore a troubling trend to observe not-for-profit hospices being acquired by for-profit entities, as ample data shows this often leads to lower patient satisfaction and a shift in focus from patient care to profits.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eebEDadv

"By outliving his initial prognosis and by receiving hospice care for over a year now, he has done much to dispel the myth that hospice is only for people who are bedbound and actively dying." "President Carter is an outlier in that only a small percentage of hospice patients survive more than 15 months," Dr. Joan Teno, MD, MS told UPI. "The fact that he has lived so long on hospice is testament to his excellent medical care at home and, if I had to guess, his will to live." https://lnkd.in/efgBBgwi
