#News 📰 From July 8th to 12th, the “Planning and Integral Development Workshop together with the Kandozi, Kukama Kuramira, Chapra, Shawi, Inka, Wampís, Shiwilu, and Achuar Indigenous Nations” was held in the city of San Lorenzo, Datem del Marañón province, in Loreto, Peru. This governance space was organized by the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance (ASHA), with the support of the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), bringing together presidents and delegates of the Indigenous nations, including Nelsith Sangama, Quechua leader and member of AIDESEP’s Board of Directors; representatives of CORPI-SL; Román Sumpa, delegate of the Wampís Nation; Awajún leader and teacher Emir Masegkai —a congressman (kakajam) of the Awajún Autonomous Government; Uyunkar Domingo Peas, President of ASHA; Wrays Pérez, Vice President of ASHA; and the technical team of ASHA in Peru. Throughout the five days of work, the “Planning and Integral Development Workshop” jointly held by participants from the Kandozi, Kukama Kuramira, Chapra, Shawi, Inka, Wampís, Shiwilu, and Achuar Indigenous nations, we determined the status of their “life plan” files, making great progress towards their self-determination and the future they want to build as nations within their territories. Dialogues on statutes, Indigenous justice, land defense,Indigenous economy projects, and education were key in finding common ground among the nations and strengthening ties between leaderships for cooperation and improved relations in Indigenous governance of the Northern Peruvian Amazon. 📸 Lorena Mendoza / ASHA
