A pleasure to be interviewed by Marie Kemplay Sustainable Views on Nature: our keystone asset, and the ultimate engine of our amazing planet…

Still recovering from the historic wildfire of 2023, Canada and other parts of the northern hemisphere are facing another challenging summer. Some reflections below from last year:

Social alliances in forest and landscape restoration, a multi-stakeholder meeting. Last month, we had this year's second Multi-stakeholder Platform (MSP) meeting for the "Atebubu and Wiase Forest Landscape Restoration" project. Bringing together 71 participants including farmers, district assembly members, traditional leaders and many others, we can all say that it was an incredibly productive session. The platform is facilitated together with our partner Nature & Development Foundation and serves as a forum for dialogue, problem-solving, and collaboration. Some of the key deliberations were on : 1. Establishing community fire volunteers: To combat the frequent bushfires, the Fire Service will recruit new community fire volunteers alongside the current ones. They will be trained, certified, and equipped to ensure they can effectively carry out their duties. The Fire Service is seeking collaboration and support from all project stakeholders to make this initiative a success. 2. Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination: Newly elected Assembly members from various communities joined the meeting. We also took the opportunity to update them about the project's background and their vital role in its implementation. 3. Discussions on solutions for issues like the destruction of farms (trees) by cattle from "herdsmen" and pastoralists. Some of the solutions discussed included the importance of community groupings and demands to traditional authorities to regulate herdsmen activities and prevent bushfires.
