We all need heroes. With an impressive start to the Paris 2024 #Olympics, we have chosen ours. #SimoneBiles, you know when enough is enough, when to take a step back, replan, build yourself up again, and move forward with endless energy, and letting go of perfection to be exactly that: perfect. " Sometimes, she takes an extra steadying step. Even her stumbles seem graceful. Because if Biles has taught us anything over the last decade, it is to reframe the way we think and talk about star athletes, to refuse the instinctive deification that is really also a form of dehumanisation. To stop demanding perfection and miracles as a condition of our love. Biles is perfect, because she isn’t." Her example is one of true courage and strength. What can you take from her commitment and foresight? ILCA #learning #professionaldevelopment #SimoneBiles #Olympics #heroes #olympichero

For a while, language educators follow their teacher training, and then classroom reality hits. Stress and challenges lead to burnout daily. (https://lnkd.in/d7k5uGJE)   Over time educators notice that language learners don’t fit the formulas. To be honest, many educators don’t fit the prescribed formulas either and will discontinue the methods and techniques learned earlier on occasion and adopt new best practices to work with. Experience, intuition, resources available… call it what you will, but sooner or later educators look into finding ways to think outside the box. Paradigm change is here. (https://lnkd.in/d6WMyYvW and https://lnkd.in/dF9fmwSK)   To have a discipline instead of instruction using inquiry, where long- and short-term goals and strategies are understood in their complexity using dialogue and partnership-based interactions. Where compassion and direct communication go hand in hand to support effective learning, without the stress of syllabi. If you feel out of place and your intuition tells you to validate your approach rather than follow training, explore language coaching. It offers flexibility, allowing learners to break free and keeping curiosity and exploration alive. It offers genuine teacher and learner wellbeing. (https://lnkd.in/eB-QzFKF)   Language coaching works with flexibility, allowing learners to break free from traditional constraints present in their learning histories. It’s about learning through curiosity and exploration, encouraging learners to shape their own paths. Collaboration creates a learning environment that values each individual's journey and allows creativity to open up new avenues of thought.   Of course, this is not a new mode of learning – the ancient Greeks, Socrates, to be specific, used the Socratic method, which involved asking probing questions to stimulate critical thinking and illuminate ideas to encourage students to explore concepts through dialogue and reflection. After centuries of rote learning and twisting curricula to fit prescriptive shapes, we might return to effective ways of guiding learning without force. (https://lnkd.in/dRGB-j9K)   If you feel constrained by conventional methods, consider language coaching as a way to validate and expand your teaching approach. Listen to your intuition and prioritise meaningful connections in the learner’s developmental process. ✅ Language coaching clients can thrive in multilingual environments   💥 When in high-stakes situations, language learners can feel blocked, after all, facilitating meetings, negotiating and presenting in multiple languages can be straining.  Language and communication coaches and trainers help by using a blend of coaching and training techniques to build awareness and train new behaviours crucial in today’s international work environments. Here is a checklist for ways to overcome challenges: – Take on challenges Stepping out of your comfort zone is a vital step toward growth and the best way to improve. Learning about effective models of change can enhance this experience. – Learn from mistakes Clients often have overconfidence or a lack of confidence to speak up. Biases and past bad experiences need to be identified, and positive psychology can help reshape negative thought patterns. – Stay engaged During coaching processes, clients go beyond passive note-taking. Actively integrating theory with practice is essential. When your clients connect the dots between the theory and their specific practice, they are expanding skills and deepening understanding. – Reflect and learn We learn better when we abstract similar lessons from multiple experiences. Coaches can encourage awareness and clients will pay closer attention to recurring patterns and draw better conclusions for development. – Engage in simulations While this might be the most challenging of all, simulations with peers and a coach provide a low-risk environment to refine skills and build confidence. Routine role play is an ideal way to face fears and doubts. - Cultivate resilience This is key for clients to handle setbacks and maintain progress. By building a mindset that views challenges as opportunities for growth, clients can navigate multilingual environments with greater ease.   - Continuous feedback Enabling trust and creating a supportive learning environment where clients can regularly receive and give constructive input is essential to help clients adjust strategies, recognise their improvements, and stay motivated. - Cultural Sensitising Understanding cultural differences is another key asset. Clients can be encouraged to learn about cultural norms and practices relevant to their multilingual interactions. This awareness helps avoid misunderstandings and builds more meaningful and respectful exchanges.   🟡 Invitation to Coaches and Trainers As language coaching clients strive to thrive in multilingual environments, educators must be well-equipped with effective strategies and tools. We are excited to offer an opportunity for trainers and coaches to deepen their expertise through our FEEL program, starting September 4th with ILCA. This program is designed to provide you with advanced techniques to enhance your coaching capabilities and support clients in achieving success in everyday learning scenarios and multilingual contexts.  ❤ ilcaglobal.com
