The best cars to lease for less than £200 per month

June 20, 2024 by

These 10 cars are all available through a leasing agreement. This means you’ll hand over an up-front deposit followed by a series of monthly payments, and there will be a limit to the number of miles you can cover per year. Once the contract is up, the car is returned to the leasing company.

If you’re looking to own the car at the end of the agreement then leasing isn’t the way forward for you. For this you’ll want to check out Hire Purchase (HP) or Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) options.

Our list of the top 10 new cars for under £200 per month* is:

1) Toyota Aygo X: £197 per month

  • Up-front cost: £2,071.10
  • Contract length: 48 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The Toyota Aygo X makes a solid case for the small hatchback in a world of SUVs. It’s a funky looking thing with loads of standard equipment, and it’s great for zipping around town.

It does start to get out of its depth on faster roads though, with quite a lot of wind noise permeating the cabin. At least the standard-fit adaptive cruise control takes some of the stress out of long journeys.

2) Volkswagen Polo: £200 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,896.21
  • Contract length: 36 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

Just sneaking within our £200 budget is the excellent Volkswagen Polo. This really is a jack of all trades, offering decent practicality, loads of equipment and great comfort.

It may not be the most exciting of all the hatchbacks out there, but the Polo makes up for this by making light work of daily driving duties.

3) GWM Ora 03: £156 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,702.80
  • Contract length: 36 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The GWM Ora 03 proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a capable electric hatchback. It’s well-equipped, and it looks great as well.

It may not be the best EV for long journeys thanks to the road noise, but the 03’s cabin is a lovely place to spend time.

4) Hyundai i10: £152 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,644.23
  • Contract length: 48 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

You can grab yourself a Hyundai i10 for a bargain £152 per month, and there’s a lot to like about this dinky city runaround.

You get plenty of kit for your money, it’s easy to drive and there’s a wide range of fuel-sipping engines on offer.

5) Vauxhall Astra: £174 per month

Vauxhall Astra
  • Up-front cost: £1,865.18
  • Contract length: 24 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

For years the Vauxhall Astra found itself playing second fiddle to the Volkswagen Golf, but this latest one is one of the best-value family hatchbacks you can buy. It’s well-equipped, good to drive and it has a massive boot.

The rear legroom may be a bit tight, but those up front will appreciate the lovely build quality and passers by can admire the stylish exterior design. It gives the Golf a proper run for its money.

6) Cupra Leon

Cupra Leon
  • Up-front cost: £2,053.82
  • Contract length: 24 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The Cupra Leon is a sporty hatchback with sharp styling and decent practicality, and at £195 per month it’s actually cheaper than the standard SEAT Leon to lease. You won’t get the fiery 300hp version for this price though, you’ll have to settle for the 1.5-litre 150hp petrol instead.

It’s still peppy enough though, and it’s good fun to drive. The trade-off for this is that it’s not quite as comfortable as the SEAT Leon, but you might be willing to look past this for the more aggressive styling.

7) Seat Ibiza: £167 per month

  • Up-front cost: 1,801.82
  • Contract length: 24 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

Looking for a small hatchback with a sporty flavour? Look no further than the Seat Ibiza. It shares a lot of parts with the VW Polo, meaning you get the same efficient engines but with more exciting styling.

The interior quality may not be up to par with the Volkswagen, but the Ibiza is more fun to drive when the road gets twisty.

8) Peugeot 208: £163 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,743.16
  • Contract length: 36 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The Peugeot 208 is one of the most stylish small cars you can buy, and it has an equally funky interior as well.

The rear seats may not be too spacious, but it’s comfortable for those in the front and there’s plenty of kit on board as well.

9) Nissan Leaf: £194 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,991.15
  • Contract length: 48 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The Nissan Leaf was one of the first mainstream electric vehicles on the market in the UK, and it’s still a great choice for families.

It has a massive boot, loads of kit and decent driving range. It may not be the biggest in the back seats, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is a great all-round EV.

10) Vauxhall Corsa: £178 per month

  • Up-front cost: £1,901
  • Contract length: 36 months
  • Mileage limit: 5,000 per year

The Vauxhall Corsa has been a firm favourite among UK buyers for years now, and it’s easy to see why. You get loads of kit for your money, and it’s pretty comfortable as well.

It may not have the most spacious interior, but at least everything feels nicely put together. It looks pretty smart on the outside, too.
