'Devadoothan,' directed by Sibi Malayil and starring Mohanlal, will re-release in 4K soon.
Mohanlal starrer ‘Devadoothan’ released in 2000, is set to re-release, about 24 years after its re-release. The film helmed by Sibi Malayil’ is set to re-release after getting a 4K remastering. The makers recently unveiled the 4K trailer of the film, and Mohanlal shared that it is one of his favourite films.
Reflecting on the tagline and how it is significant today, he said, "This film carries a poignant message encapsulated in its tagline, 'Someone has something to say to someone.”
During the trailer launch, Mohanlal also paid tribute to filmmaker Sibi Malayil, with whom he has worked earlier.Speaking of restoring the film and getting it a 4K makeover, Mohanlal observed that only a few films have maintained its prints in pristine condition. "This is a movie shot on actual film. The first question I asked was how did it survive without any damage after all these years. Many old labs no longer exist, and film rolls can deteriorate over time. This film was fortunate. It's now set for re-release. The tagline of 'Devadoothan' is that someone has something to say to someone. Now I realize that we have something to say to you," he said.

Mohanlal also remembered his co-stars, and added, "Jayaprada, Jayalakshmi, and Murali, who were integral parts of the film, are remembered on this occasion.” He also opened up about how the film didn’t do well at the box office during its initial release. “When reflecting on why 'Devadoothan' didn't perform well at the box office back then, I wouldn't say that the film was ahead of its time. Perhaps its message resonated differently back then, or it faced stiff competition from other releases. Many deserving films often face similar challenges.”
