NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the four convicts in the murder of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan in 2008 following Delhi Police's appeal challenging Delhi High Court's order suspending the life sentences and granting interim bail to the four men.

A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma issued notice on the four pleas filed by Delhi Police and tagged them with the pending petition of Vishwanathan's mother against the bail granted to the four convicts.

Vishwanathan was shot dead while driving home from work on South Delhi's Nelson Mandela Marg in Sept 2008.
More than 15 years after Vishwanathan was killed, a Delhi court on Nov 25, 2023, awarded life terms to the four accused under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and Section 3(1)(i) (committing organised crime resulting in the death of any person) of MCOCA.
On Feb 12, three months after the four convicts were given life sentences, Delhi High Court suspended their sentences and granted them bail pending the appeals challenging their conviction and sentences.
