Over half the population of Sudan (25.6M people) are likely to face crisis or worse conditions of food insecurity. "It is evident the most vulnerable children and their families are bearing the brunt of the conflict." The international community and parties to the conflict must take immediate action to prevent a catastrophic malnutrition emergency. https://lnkd.in/dq2ZTBnj World Vision Sudan EU in Emergencies

Working with communities, donors, partners & governments to create better futures for vulnerable children
About us
Founded in 1950, World Vision is a global Christian relief, development, and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty, violence, disaster, and injustice. World Vision has over 37,000 staff in nearly 100 countries. We collaborate with others in pursuit of positively impacting the most vulnerable children, their families, and communities around the world. World Vision EU Representation (WV EUREP) is one of several “global capitals” based in strategic global locations and an association of WV Offices engaged strategically with the EU. Our main goal is to see a tangible increase in political and financial investment in children by the EU. We work towards this goal and World Vision’s main priority areas through two strategic avenues: advocating for children’s rights at EU level and supporting the World Vision Partnership with expertise and knowledge on EU funding and actions.

The Council of the European Union, with the support of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024, published today the updated EU Guidelines on Children and Armed Conflict. ↩ https://lnkd.in/dcgnqshd The 2023 annual report on Children and Armed Conflict from António Guterres revealed nearly 33,000 grave violations affecting more than 22,500 children, including a 35% increase in killing and maiming of children. This shows how measures like the updated EU guidelines on Children and Armed Conflicts are so urgently needed. These updated guidelines bring us closer to an EU prioritising the well-being, protection & reintegration of all children affected by armed conflict. Natural disasters as a result of climate change are increasing worldwide. This makes it all the more important to prepare and protect the people in our project areas. How well do the disaster management committees that are supposed to ensure that people are prepared for disasters work? A recent joint study by World Vision Zimbabwe and World Vision Germany analysed this, drawing on the example of urban areas in Zimbabwe. The findings and further developed step-by-step guidelines aim to help disaster management professionals improve the conduction of disaster prevention programmes and adapt it to their respective contexts. The most important findings are: ➡ Disaster management committees do not meet regularly ➡ Disaster management plans are available, but they are not practised with the local population ➡ Civil protection units lack financial resources ➡ Civil protection committees are needed not only at the national and city levels but also at the urban district level. Both should be systematically interlinked ➡ The committees should be made up of diverse stakeholders including different institutions, suburb authorities, private sector associations, community workers and civil society representatives. “We are currently seeing food rations decreasing due to funding cuts - these are exacerbating the horrendous effects of child hunger and malnutrition." - Andrea Polo Galante, World Vision Senior Advisor on Food Security and Nutrition. 📨Our message for #G7 leaders is that while we welcome their intentions to overcome structural barriers to food security and nutrition, their promises need to be backed by funding.

Last week, colleagues from several World Vision offices came to Brussels to attend a week-long training that World Vision EU Representation organised as part of the European Programme Reference Group - a mechanism for different offices to coordinate on EU grants acquisition and management. It was a great opportunity to share learnings, challenges and best practices, and, overall, meet colleagues from across the Partnership.

~15.8M Afghans are food insecure. As senior representatives from the international community are meeting in Brussels, we remind them that the rural economy must be strengthened, including by 🔵 investing in climate smart agriculture 🔵 reviving traditional irrigation mechanisms 🔵 providing relevant training for those whose livelihoods and lives depend on it.
