Sophia Monney interned at SaferGlobe and helped us daily from May until mid-June - we'd like to warmly thank you and hope to see you again soon! Here are some thoughts by Sophia on her time at SaferGlobe: "Hi, my name is Sophia, and I am currently an undergraduate student at McGill University, specializing in political science, economics, and sociology. The reason behind my choice of interning at SaferGlobe is its commendable work in the peace and security domain in Finland, along with its extensive engagement in the European Union. While being present here, I engaged in events like the EU dialogue initiative, where I had the privilege of meeting professionals and individuals devoted to the security field in Eastern Europe. Additionally, I had the chance to be part of KRIHANYT, a platform where enlightening dialogues concerning a wide range of security matters unfolded, encompassing topics such as the impacts of climate change, the engagement of individuals with disabilities, and the prospective endeavors of the Finnish government to cultivate peace in active conflict regions. However, I also supported the organization by assisting with administrative tasks like website updates and seeking alternative sources of funding beyond Finnish government grants. In a broader sense, my aspiration is to leverage the knowledge and connections I have gained to better understand firsthand the operations of a Think Tank, as well as the future trajectory of conflict resolution and sustainable security measures."

As part of the EU System for an Enabling Environment for Civil Society (EU SEE in short) project, we are looking for a web developer to build a website to monitor and display data related to civil liberties worldwide. What do we need? 📣 Via the backend of the website, researchers will be able to submit regular updates on the state of civil society conditions in their respective countries. This data and information will then be displayed on the frontend of the website and intended for an audience of policymakers, civil society organizations and members of the media. EU SEE is a project we implement together with Hivos, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, Democracy Reporting International, European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) & Forus. Aligning with the Life & Peace Institute’s cross-cutting focus on youth and peacebuilding, our very own Yibeltal Assefa and Rayan Khalifa actively participated in the Second African Young Leaders Learning and Exchange Forum, themed ‘Dare to Invent the Future: Empowering minds & unlocking potential for transformation in Africa’ which was held from July 7-12, 2024 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Forum delved into discussions on how young people can be more involved in shaping Africa's future, discussing opportunities for youth participation in policy spaces, conflict resolution approaches, and innovative solutions to climate change and economic challenges.

This opening demonstrates our ongoing support for the Conseil National de Transition (CNT) 🇬🇳 of the last months. Ambassador Pons shared her remarks on the importance of guaranteeing accessibility to information, even despite contrasting opinions, in order to promote political participation by the citizens.
