We arrived January 24 and had a warm welcome from reception staff. We requested a room on the main floor so we didn’t have to go up stairs, and they accommodated us no problem. The reception staff also spoke English very well. They are making efforts for being green by having purified water and ice stations at all villas and a reusable glass bottle in your room to get water (instead of plastic water bottles). The pop in the fridge are in glass bottles (instead of plastic). However, I found that there weren’t enough garbage bins around the property.
The room was clean and the bed was an actual king instead of 2 twins pushed together. The bed was actually very comfortable (so much so that we slept in one morning until 10:30 am lol). There aren’t enough outlets beside the bed. This is problematic if you have a sleep apnea machine. There also isn’t places to plug in chargers, the ones connected to the phone didn’t work. The room is a little dated but sufficient. I don’t go on vacation to watch television, however, at bedtime I like to unwind and watch some tv, however, there were no programs in English. Disappointed. Since they have free WiFi they should offer a way to access our streaming channels on the television. There is a deep bath but no shower curtain so when you left the hand shower in the cradle, water would splash onto the bathroom floor, which also made it a safety hazard stepping out of the bath and being careful not to fall. The view we had from the balcony was so tranquil with the water fountain there and having the peacocks coming there for drinking which enhanced the tropical feel.
The pool area was very nice but I noticed that concrete in the pool itself is crumbling. Even though there were signs asking not to reserve/save chairs, people still did and therefore if you didn't get to the pool by 9 am it was hard to find a decent location. You could always find a chair but not always in a desirable location.
There were no servers coming around the pool to offer you drinks. You had to go to either the swim up bar or the other 2 locations at the pool. Not the end of the world, but, it would have been nice for someone else to get drinks us drinks. It was nice to have hard plastic reusable cups instead of those disposable flimsy plastic cups. At the main bar (near the theatre) you are served in glass which was so nice.
The food was good at the buffet and always lots of choices. We went to the Japanese and Mexican for the a-la-carte. They were both good - the Japanese was very entertaining with the chefs singing while preparing the food on the grills. The Mexican food was delicious and so fresh - came to our table piping hot so you knew it was just made. I didn't like that you couldn't reserve all your a-la-carte restaurants at once. You could only book one restaurant at a time, so, if you wanted to go to more than one a-la-carte you would have to go back the next day between 9 am-12 noon. It's all done on the computer, so, not sure why they inconvenience guests to come back.
The entertainment was horrible. It seemed to cater to kids or young adults. There was a female singer that attempted to do English songs (Bon Jovi etc.) and she was horrible. One night when there was karaoke one of the guests sang a Spanish song and she was amazing. She should replace that singer that the resort pays lol. It would have been nice to see more culturally significant for the Dominicans. It would have been nice to see a musical with costumes - maybe a Michael Jackson performances etc.
I spoke to other guests who had been to this resort before and they said it was much better before Covid, and so not sure if the resort has scaled back their services - poolside servers, better entertainment etc.
Overall, it was a very relaxing vacation, but, not sure if I'd go back to this particular resort.
