A cozy hotel with a fantastic view

Review of Hotel Schonbuhl
Reviewed Sep 30, 2018via mobile
Run by the former world ski champion Urs Räber, Hotel Schönbühl is just a 10 min walk from Wilderswil train station. This hotel has simple rooms but offers a breathtaking view of the Jungfrau mountains. It has a bar and huge lobby and a large outdoor area with tables and chairs. Just right place to drink coffee or beer while looking at the mountains.

Great quaint Hotel owned by a former Olympic skier ⛷ for Switzerland 🇨🇭. Walking distance to the Wilderswil Rail and provides great access to Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe. Meal were lovely set up by the tour group.
Had a great time and enjoyed the view. Rooms were simple and shower size was bigger than expected.

We all had a superb time . The hotel and staff were excellent and the view from the front of the hotel couldn't be beaten. We spent every day out in the local area visiting a range of sites and we always had the thought the we could return and use the hotel swimming pool.

We loved this hotel. The rooms were pretty basic but that didn't matter because the view was to die for. This is one of our favorite regions in Switzerland and this hotel sits on top of a hill so you get great views of the whole area. The owner made a meal served family style. I think it was some type of stew and it was delicious. No cell phones were allowed in the dining room and I was totally fine what that rule, as it's nice to just talk to each other and enjoy the meal and socialize without the distraction. One of the young ladies who works there helped me order a pizza and salad and had it delivered from a local restaurant on our second night (thank you) and we ate it on the beautiful patio with the most amazing view. I did not try out the pool but it looked extremely clean and inviting. We would stay here again.

This review is fair and honest. Please note it is my opinion and I have provided only facts.
We stayed here for two nights which was part of a European bus tour.
Check-in was arranged by our tour guide so we had no interaction with the hotel and cannot comment on this. We were handed our keys to our room, mine being on the first floor. The only lift was very small and would only accommodate one couple and luggage so it took for ever as this was a group check-in. First impression was that the room was extremely small, very basic with two old single beds and loud creaky floors. Every step in the room created a loud creak. No TV, no air conditioning, no fan, no hair drier and the smallest bathroom i have ever come across. Could only use the toilet with the door open. Forget about privacy here.
No internet access in the bedroom and very limited assess at reception so forget about browsing any sites.
Breakfast was OK but no toaster. The worst was the rude owner. Does this guy want customers, don't think so with the way he acts. My advise is pay a bit more and stay in a proper hotel and enjoy your stay. I will NEVER return to this hotel

We stayed here as part of a tour group so potentially a different experience in regards to dining etc. The owner's sporting past certainly gives a unique vibe to the place and the lobby is fantastic. All the rooms have some kind of view of the snow capped mountains as this area is just sensational.

We were on the top floor and the accomodation while modernised is not your usual accomodation. It was more of a luxury cabin type room. No television or wifi up in the rooms but when you are in such a beautiful place there really is no need for it. In my opinion anyone complaining about such issues needs to relax a little because they can't be enjoying their holiday!

The meals we had here were delicious and the bar is open till 11:30 with very good prices compared to what we found in Interlaken. There was a table tennis table, games room and a pool which wasn't open given the temperature. The building is 4 levels with a lift only getting to the 3rd level. Being on the 4th level this was the only small fault we had with the hotel but we managed!

We had great service from Urs and his team and would definitely stay here again.

Room tip: Levels 1-3 if you cannot carry or wheel your bag up the last set of stairs. The lift services levels 1-3.
