We got a high level room and The retro style of the room and hotel, we both love it, toilet is real clean and the water pressure is good and strong. The room is real spacious, you can open 2 big luggages at the same time.

But probably would not recommend to stay in this hotel during the festive period, they will have party at the lobby that can last into the following morning like 4,5am and the sound proof is not that great. My boyffriend and I can feel the music bass (but also means they have good high quality speaker for party) from our bed despite we are on the high level room.
So in short, if you are party animal, this will make a amazing hotel!

OK, so there are some very positive reviews, and some very negative reviews. After four days here I can see how the reviewers arrived at both. This is an older, typically Swiss/German (read: spartan) hotel that has at times served as a backpackers' retreat. The furniture is older, the beds not terribly comfortable, and the room was a bit musty at times--keeping the windows open helped. But there are a lot of positives as well. First, the setting: this was clearly at one time a grand old hotel and resort set right at the bast of the Bernese Oberland. The south-facing rooms have incredible views up the valley to alpine peaks. The gardens are beautiful, and there is a large pool, both features you're not going to see at other hotels. There is a restaurant with decent, standard Swiss-German food (fondue, rosti, etc), and several bars on-site that charge very reasonable prices in otherwise expensive Switzerland. There's also a couple pubs and restaurants near the hotel that are enjoyable (try The Three Tells), and it's kind of a little "backpackers area" with several hostels around which gives it a younger, more bohemian vibe. The thing that really makes this place is that the staff is great--they're fun, cool, laid back, all speak English, are helpful, and all have great insight on what you need to see and do while in Interlaken. There's just a great vibe to this place that you're not going to find in the nicer hotels--and yes, there are much nicer hotels to be found. I really think it's worth a shot for the more adventurous traveler (not tourist), and if you can see past the wear and tear, it's a great base camp for your alpine adventures.

I stayed here for 3 days during my stay at interlaken and I should say that hotel rooms are pretty old, not very highly maintained as you see in other hotels in switzerland. The staffs are unfriendly and does not entertain much questions...rooms are very very big in size, but washrooms and other bath accessories are not very good in quality (towels)...the beds are not really great, but the view from the balcony is just awesome (facing mt jungfrau)...staff at the breakfast counter once were bit rude otherwise they are very good at behaving...breakfast spread is good...they need to literally improve the standard of services provided and the quality of rooms definitely needs improvement for the price you pay...

First at all, this place it’s a BACKPACKERS - not a hotel neither a resort.

We stayed for 4 nights with our 1.5 years old daughter in a family room - 2 rooms with middle door access.

The room
Size both rooms was generous, with balcony - plenty space for my daughter to running around. It has one bathroom, unfortunately it was quite gross. The toilet smells urine whole our stay. The bathroom floor and wall covered with vinyl sheet flooring that does not have any water access to flow.

It has kettle to boil water, that’s about it. No basic stuff such cups, etc.

The rooms have really thin wall between other rooms. I can hear my neighbour talking clearly and walking as the floor start making cracking noise when we/other guest walked on the floor.

No room service or whatsoever.

Overpriced.

The hotel
It have big backyard and garden. There is fish in the pond as well. The lobby, have massive dog and cat plus always have groups of the same people drinking doesn’t matter if we walk pass morning, afternoon or night.

Not recommend for family or couple specially with small kids.

It was so nice! Staff great. Reception and bar open 24/7 so that we could check in really late and have a nice coffee early in the morning.

It is quite old but that makes a lovely old Swiss atmosphere.

Located in a really nice place with a lovely giant garden from the balcony we could see the Jungfrau it was just perfect!

If you go to booking.com, you will find a lot of photos that make you dream of a very pleasant stay at a fashionable hotel. What you see is NOT what you get. I and my family found an old building needing urgent refurbishment. That was NOT the problem. The hotel was dirty (we opened a black trolley on the room floor and it magically became dust white), the bed linen is lousy (there were only mattress protections with cigarette holes, not real linen), the hotel is publicised as a family hotel (see the photos in booking.com) and you find that the two first floors are destined for backpackers.
Add to that a receptionist who doesn't care about your complaints and the picture is complete.
It really is a pity that such a lovely building with such a wonderful location is not appropriately used. It's a real shame...

I will have to have a little chat with my travel agent on this one. The Park Mattenhof was strange to say the least. It may have been a Grand Hotel in it's day from the pictures on the walls, however I think it is more of a backpackers hotel now than anything else. The bar in the lobby had a number of locals hanging out. The cigarette smoke smell was putrid to say the least. Were were on the 4th floor and all my clothes in the room reeked of smoke. It obviously came up through the vents. The hotel itself reminded me of the hotel in "The Shining". The running joke our whole stay was that I was waiting for the kid to come down the hall on his tricycle or see the twin girls. It was an eerie sort of place to say the least and we would not stay there again.
