Hotel Schönbühl is a beautiful family-owned hotel atop a hill in Wilderswil with a very homey feeling. It has a rustic feel, almost feels like a gigantic cottage; you can smell the wood. Rooms are very clean and has the basic closet, table & chairs, towels. We got the twin share room, so twin beds freshly made. No bathtub, just the basic shower area, toilet, and sink in small area but is more than sufficient. It actually felt nice to shower in there after our 8-hour drive from Paris, France. It doesn’t have a restaurant as such, i.e. place you can walk into and order from a menu. We stayed there during our tour with Expat Explore, so our group did have dinner and breakfast the day after. Dinner was wonderful – 3-course meal of veggie soup (we assume), chicken curry with rice, and chocolate mousse. Breakfast was the basic cold cuts, cheese, bread, and cereals. Basic, but sufficient. They have a small bar in the lounge/reception area where you can order for drinks and hang out. They have board games and cards you can play with, or use be on your laptop and/or phone and use the free WI-FI. No internet connection in the rooms, just downstairs. The place is made of wood, so the floors do creak and is quite noisy especially if it’s really quite, which it generally was. We were a party of 50+ and we were the only ones staying that those 2 nights. It is located about 8-10 minutes walk to the train station, and it’s about 5mins train ride to the nearest town, Interlaken, which is really not that much bigger but it’s the more commercial town. Lauterbrunnen is 20mins train from Interlaken, so you can easily travel there and see the sights and the waterfalls. The Jungfraujoch, the ‘top of Europe’ is about 2hrs from Interlaken.

As part of our tour with Expat Explore, we stayed at this lovely family run traditional chalet style hotel with the most breathtaking views over the Swiss countryside and the Swiss Alps. The owner is a former World Skiing champion and uses that same sporting discipline to run his hotel methodically and with certain rules. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the food EXCEPTIONAL, the location great. The room itself was very basic but surprisingly comfortable, the bathroom is tiny but that was not a big issue given all the other pluses, there is a nice communal area with bar and jukebox our tour group spent two nights dancing in, I would go there again and again. There is also a great pool and trampoline, so much fun! A short train ride to the Top of Europe Jungfraujoch and to gorgeous Interlaken.

Lovely location. Room that I was in was small and inside was covered with unpainted pressed chipboard. Ok, I don't really need luxury to be comfortable but a host who doesn't smile and seems to have a permanent scowl isn't appropriate for customers at a hotel. It really felt like it was an imposition upon him for me/us to be there. Don't know the cost of my room as it was part of a package. The guy would do much better with his "incremental sales" of food and beverage if he were more friendly and not taint the atmosphere. Unfortunate, so much untapped potential for his business.

We were here, in part, due to a wedding but loved this place and the area! The hotel has a main building and annex across the street. We stayed in the annex because it was less expensive. However, we were on the 2nd floor, had a balcony and view of the lake. Their gardens and outdoor dining in the back....so peaceful and enjoyable. Whether reading a book in this quiet space or enjoying a meal, it was perfect. The included breakfast was wonderful. The inn, like many hotels in Swiss towns, provided a visitor pass which gave us free bus transportation as well as other discounts. We took the bus to Interlaken (about 45 minutes) and returned by boat on the lake to Thun, a short distance from Hilterfingen. Thun was lovely. If you're lucky, you'll get to see the surfers in the waterway! We returned from Thun by bus. This is a beautiful area and one we would have missed if not for the wedding. Highly recommend this hotel and this beautiful area!

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room was very cozy and we had a small balcony that opens the view to the lovely mountains view. At night the view is spectacular under the stars. It was an awesome experience. The food is also good, you can find some authentic Swiss dishes here. it just that the owner has some rules like no phone are allowed in the dinning area and the wifi is only available in the lobby. so yeah you get to spend

This review is fair and honest. Please note it is my opinion and I have provided only facts.
We stayed here for two nights which was part of a European bus tour.
Check-in was arranged by our tour guide so we had no interaction with the hotel and cannot comment on this. We were handed our keys to our room, mine being on the first floor. The only lift was very small and would only accommodate one couple and luggage so it took for ever as this was a group check-in. First impression was that the room was extremely small, very basic with two old single beds and loud creaky floors. Every step in the room created a loud creak. No TV, no air conditioning, no fan, no hair drier and the smallest bathroom i have ever come across. Could only use the toilet with the door open. Forget about privacy here.
No internet access in the bedroom and very limited assess at reception so forget about browsing any sites.
Breakfast was OK but no toaster. The worst was the rude owner. Does this guy want customers, don't think so with the way he acts. My advise is pay a bit more and stay in a proper hotel and enjoy your stay. I will NEVER return to this hotel

This is an excellent budget Hotel with good en suite facilities in the adult rooms. Hotel Schonbuhl has, undoubtedly the best view over the Jungfrau range of mountains of anywhere in the village of Wilderswil. The food is of good quality and although a set menu, there are plentiful amounts and always extra if required. I have now visited this Hotel over 40 times and the owner and his family always make us feel very welcome. The Hotel has an excellent bar with very reasonable prices.

Hotel was clean, rooms were small and basic but it was clean. Dinner was excellent first night. But I give it 3 stars as the Owner Urs is a piece of work! Hes rude and should NOT be working in the Service industry! He yelled at my friend for bringing outside food. Its a Hotel!! He yelled at me since I had to ring the doorbell one night cos he closed the front door. Who locks up a hotel?? I will NOT stay at this hotel because of him. He treated us like Children. He needs to change careers if he doesnt like dealing with Customers!!

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Switzerland is beautiful and so the views around this hotel is very pretty. It is a 15 mins walk from the train station.

It is a family run business. The owner is very unfriendly. And has many rules -e.g. you cant bring any food from outside, stay quietly, use the tiny swimming pool at specific times only...
Wifi is available in the lobby only, provided you buy chocolates/drinks etc.

The nice thing about the hotel is the view - however, you can get such views from any hotel in the Alpine region.
