I think this hotel is underrated. I guess some of the rooms are old and/or small, but we received a very traditional-looking room with a view to the mountains which was amazing!

Sure, the bathroom and shower are a bit on the small side, but we received a room that has a separate shower with a curtain, and a toilet. I understand there are rooms that barely have a separation between them.

Other than that, breakfast was very sufficient and tasty, the staff was extremely nice, the bar area was cool and had great vibes in the evening, and the overall experience was really positive.

I get it - if you’re looking for indulgence and a spa, this isn’t the place for you, but it’s totally a good choice with a great location. I’d go back.

I was really impressed by the helpful nature of the staff, particularly the manager, think his name is Salim (or something like that). The hotel is clean and the breakfast was good, even for a vegetarian, with several selections. After we checked-in the manager, carried one of my bags to our room which was on 3rd floor; we carried the other two.

While there are positives for this hotel, one must bear a couple of things mind. This is a 300 year hotel, it has no elevators. Be prepared to carry your bags to upper floors. Second, this hotel is located on a hillock, about one Kilometer from the Wilderswil train station. So it is a bit of walk and one needs to hire a cab, if you there is luggage. The staff at the Interlaken Ost advised to get a cab, which we did and it adds about 50 CHF. Third, there is no air-conditioning. The two nights we stayed were hot and we felt the need for a/c. There are several other hotels nearby Wilderswil train station, which may be better choices, with regards to the issues I described.

Booked here as close to rail for mountains and town (10 minute walk), plus it looked quaint with good rooms. Price comparable with many as Switzerland is still most expensive country to visit in Europe, reflecting domestic high salaries (maybe 3x that of UK or France). Initial impression not great, as another elderly guest was rebuked at reception when she complained about stairs (a lot) and was told she should have read before booking, no offer to carry baggage. Sort of set the tone for us. A take it or leave it attitude to service? However, chap was polite with us, gave us keys basic ideas, and we paid, as asked, before even seeing room, another no no for us normally. We told him we'd not have breakfast next morning as we were on 1st train up into the mountains. Room turned out to be not that bad, shower room a bit of a pokey after thought. Spotted a nice sharp damaged base to mirror above water glasses, before we cut knuckles on it. Needs replacing. It is an old building, but somebody ought to nail some floorboards down after maybe doing some sound insulation between, as every step on floor above and round about is very very loud, meaning you sleep late and wake early. Some stains on carpet in various places. Having traveeled all day, we opted to eat first night at half board, but wine, coffee and water is all added on at £50!! 2nd night we ate out, and had an uneventful but noisy nights sleep in the creaky ship style room both evenings. Breakfast was good on 2nd morning, even some cooked bacon and eggs - good for Brits. On leaving, reception would not deduct the 2 breakfasts we didn't have, (and which we said on arrival we didn't want) from the meal "extras" we did have and want (and which we thought would be included), which seemed highly unreasonable, if not totally intransigent and so left a feel of being pick pocketted, as their rooms and prices are not at the cheap end, nor top drawer as in photo on site. Dinner staff were impeccable, if a tad over attentive, the meal was also very good food, so no complaints there except at 40+ per person wine and coffee (and certainly water) should really be inclusive as is our experience most everywhere in France on priced "menu" perhaps not en carte. So, not our happiest stop over ever, we felt like minor inconveniences at times, not entirely value for money, hence the average score. Probably would not go back.

We have stayed at this hotel many times , and have never found reason to complain. The staff are all friendly, they go out of their way to help you. The room is kept spotless, and clean towels are always available, the bedding is changed every few days. If you don’t like feathers , as we don’t, they will always change them with no problem.
The food is nice, if there’s something you don’t like, they will offer alternative.
The breakfast has a good selection, and you can eat as much as you like.
There is a great mix of guests from all over , and we have found them friendly.
If you are polite to the staff, they are polite back. We have always found them to be very helpful.
Swiss day on 1st august is a special day , and the chefs put on an amazing dinner .
Don’t let a bad review spoil your stay at this hotel. It’s really down to how you approach the staff, not just here, but anywhere you go. Rudeness is never a great way to get want you ask for.
We can’t wait to go back. We had 17 nights there , and enjoyed ourselves .

Our Swiss friend suggested this authentic Swiss hotel and we’re so glad he did because Wilderswil is a village versus a bigger town like Interlaken. A real benefit is that they gave us a pass to use on the local transportation to use during our stay so we can go all around the area. Our rooms are basic - no air conditioning - but the big window opened all night was refreshing. We booked a family room because we are a group of three and so we had two bedrooms and one bathroom to share which was fine. The breakfast offered a bunch of choices. No one who stays here should walk away hungry. The restaurant is always crowded so people not staying here must come for lunch and dinner. We had margarita pizza and salads and beer for dinner which totaled to about $60 for the three of us - reasonably priced for Switzerland. Our only problem was that some of the plugs in the room didn’t work. We harghly recommend this Inn. The management and restaurant people couldn’t have been nicer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stopped here on our way back from Trümmbach-Fälle and wanted to have lunch. As a family of 5, 3 adults and 2 children, we asked if we could have lunch and were told, “yes”, and given a table outside. Another family was ordering from the menu at that time (13:45). We were given the menus and the next time the waiter appeared he said, “Sorry, we can no longer serve you”. A bit confused, frustrated and disappointed we got up and left! We were given no explanation, the chef decided to stop serving!
There were 3 other tables having lunch and 1 other table had just ordered! We saw them looking at the menus when we arrived. We knew it was late according to Swiss meal timing, but we asked and were told it was ok!
We left and found an Italian restaurant in the same town (Luna Piccante) who accepted us with open arms and were very friendly.
We will never try to go back to the Hotel Bären!

Room: We have booked a Superior Double or Twin Room with Breakfast for three nights here. At first look, and this is so true, we were mesmerized as it was quite a sunny day and the whole property is surrounded by high Alps, it was quite a view. The room was quite spacious, bed and bedding were great. The room has systematically allocated space for everything. We got the corner room on the third floor. From our balcony, we can easily see the Interlaken Lake, and from our room window, we can see the Alps, also just a glimpse of Jungfraujoch peaks. The bathroom has a bathtub and it was neat and clean. The hotel does not have a Lift so one has to carry the luggage via stairs to the room.

Staff: All the staff members we interacted with were polite, proficient, and always ready to help.

Housekeeping/Room Service: It was decent and up to the mark. We were satisfied with the services.

Parking: I haven't used it but I am guessing it's roadside parking.

Food: We took the Breakfast with our stay. It had both Veg and Non-veg options with a combination of Coffee / Tea / Juice. In terms of food options, it has quite a decent number, like croissants, chocolate puffs, a variety of bread with jam/butter/cheese, etc. Overall for us, it has a good spread to start the day with.

Verdict: In my personal opinion, one should visit this property as first, it's conveniently located near bus and train stations, has some amazing views around the property, you can simply walk around and enjoy the scenic views, the staff is courteous and ready to help, has some delicious food options too, and decent eatery places. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and recommend this place.

PS: Guests have to provide a Credit Card so that the Hotel scan the card in case they want to charge if there's something.

We have recently returned from a 10 day stay at the Baeren Hotel - our first visit after many years staying at various hotels in Wengen - and we found all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful - especially with my wife's specific dietary needs. The meal portions are very generous and tasty while the packed lunches (included with our package) were the best we have ever experienced on holiday in Switzerland. Meanwhile a local complimentary bus service covering Wilderswil and Interlaken West rail stations was extremely beneficial as we both now have restricted mobility issues. Despite these issues we hope to return to Switzerland in the future and would have no hesitation in returning to the Baeren Hotel.

We travelled with our motorbike - ideal location for Alps/ Interlaken area.... 8 mins walk to main train station. Parking available. Room was good size, lovely comfortable bed, lots of hot water, good Wi-Fi. Breakfast offered lots of options - both hot and cold and was 'topped up' regularly. The evening bar and restaurant service was first class.... beautifully cooked and presented food. Very attentive & friendly service.
Hotel is slightly dated .. but understandable in view of its age but has bags of charm.
Would definitely return.

We had made a reservation in the hotel restaurant. When we arrived there the very blunt and unfriendly staff person did not know of anything, later on he had found the reservation.
The service was absolutely appauling and the food quite disgusting. The staff are unfriendly and not at all service oriented. I would not recommend this Restaurant to anyone.
