Although there were very few other diners I would gave the meal a Michelin star. It wont get one at present because of minor issues with service and presentation however for quality, preparation and innovation the tasting menu we had with wine was superb. We regularly eat at Michelin star restaurants and as i said, the main difference here was simply in the knowledge and nuances of the waitstaff which had difficulty describing and explaining the dishes in english and understanding questions with the wine. Also, despite the excellent food and beauty of the art deco room the restaurant had few other patrons and so lacked the ambiance one wants of social eating.

Solo dinner when traveling for business it’s hardly fun, lucky enough I ended up dining at La Fonda. I got to discover what all the Masterchef show describes like the one of the best cuisine in the world the Catalunyan one. I enjoyed the welcome from the chef with mussels in a potatoes creme, continuing with Anchovies from the Cantábrico on crackers with pepper sauce. Afterwards cod fish with chip of prawns on a green been sauce. Last a panna cotta with yoghurt and vanilla with strawberries coulisse , white chocolate and red berries. Service was great and bill very honest for the quality of the food

In Barcelona 🇪🇸 there are plenty of good restaurants. One restaurant we tried this year really stands out. At @fondaespanya they serve traditional dishes with a modern exquisite twist. Food orgasm is not just a term at this gastronomic restaurant. It really is a thing. We chose the tasting menu (which was super cheap to Belgian standards) and enjoyed sardine cream, salmorejo with sea scallop tartare, oysters 🦪 in anchovy’s chlorophyll with white asparagus gazpacho, citrus steamed hake, mushroom espuma and many more original flavours. And let’s not forget the desserts: yoghurt ice cream
with pineapple🍍and cucumber 🥒 and a lime, honey 🍯 and mató concoction.

At the high end of gastronomy, rarely do you find a prix fixe experience from a famous chef for such a reasonable price point. The adventure started with an amuse bouche of sardines and veal that set a high standard for the entire meal.
They have a children’s menu too, a choice of 3 or four courses made to the same high standards.
At lunch time this restaurant is more casual, with several diners wearing shorts and sandals. While several reviews indicated the dress code was business casual, be assured it’s much more casual than business for lunch.
Overall, a meal for 6 that included 2 wine pairings, 4 seven-course “moments” and two children’s menus came to €330

Firstly, the location is fun, the restaurant is lovely from a design perspective and maybe the food is amazing for local tastes but for us it was so off putting we stopped the Degustation menu 4 courses in having not completely eaten 3 of the 4.
So why might I say have your expectations set correct?
The dishes are presented well but the taste on our night was so strong fish based we almost had to spit it out.
Maybe this is a local taste and if so we simply don’t have the taste for it but we are foodies and plan all our travel around food and this was the first time ever we had to stop a degustation menu and ask for the bill.
Eventually we had to negotiate what we felt was a fair price for essentially pea soup ( was great), nice bottle of rose cava (so good we ordered a case) and some bread.
If you want amazing, mind blowing modern interpretations of tapas goto Mont Bar. It is another level in quality and experience but it also costs.
But at the end of the evening you need to have a grappa get the taste of dinner out of your mouth it might be worth paying a premium.

Wow wow wow! After an early morning start in the Uk the plan was to get to the hotel Espana and have lunch whilst we waited for our room to be ready. As it was the hotel was really accommodating and we were in our room early.
We wanted to have our lunch and the. Spend some time relaxing(sleeping) before going out for the evening. Well we couldn’t have had a more amazing meal from start to finish. The food was wonderful with delicious amuse bouche of mushroom to start followed by Iberico pork with rice or squid with consommé. Both were so tasty. For main we both had amazing lamb rack with artichoke purée with a chocolate desert to finish. All this with bread,water and a glass of wine for €35 must be the deal of the decade. Equal if not better to anything we’ve had in London (think Joel Robuchon) .
We would come back to Barcelona just to have the meal again it was that good.
Staff were friendly and efficient throughout. And yes we did go straight asleep after the meal! Do go - the room is lovely!!!

We booked a late lunch at 15.30 for two. The menu we had was “de la rosa”. It contained of 9 dishes. Really recommend this place if you have a wide range of taste. My boyfriend loved every plate, while I had two plates I didn’t like because of the raw flavor of fish. The oxtail and the codfish were both our favorites. Even the dessert with cucumber was amazing. we paid with a bottle of champagne 135 euros total. The setting is classy, formal and super elegant. The staff was super professional; explaining each dish in English to us.

Great experience and lovely time at Fonda España by Martín Berasategui - Hotel España. Food was delicious and the atmosphere at the restaurant was amazing.
We had tasting menu of 17 dishes and for me personally was too much, whereas my partner enjoyed every single dish. For those who are interested in exploring different dishes this place is fantastic to visit. Highly recommended restaurant.

We chose the larger menu from the two tasting menus. The food and presentation was excellent. Each menu item was served in a unique dish. The flavored butters on stone were a great addition with the lavender my favorite. Suggest you take a picture of the menu to keep track of all the dishes. Service was excellent with each dish explained accurately.

We chose this restaurant for the fantastic reviews and michelin recommendation.
We chose the midweek set price menu for £35 which was incredible value. This came with a glass of wine, lots of beautiful fresh bread and a three course meal.
The hilight was the mushroom amuse bouche. The rest of the food was delightful ly presented and perfectly cooked but in all honesty, just wasn't memorable.
The restaurant also lacked atmosphere.
Overall, incredible value and no faults, just not somewhere we would return to.

At least as good as most of the 3* restaurants I have visited, a fraction of the price and unpretentious.
Every single dish was absolutely spot on. The cheap pairing wine menu was ridiculously cheap at 35euros with Catalunyan wines I had never heard of (and a nice Rioja) but which happened to go perfectly with the meals.
I honestly couldn’t think what I would have had them do differently with any single course and I was racking my brains about meals in The Fat Duck, The Waterside, Cafe de Paris, French Laundry etc as to what they did better and concluded a bit of theatre, pretension and a bill 5-10x more.
If you appreciate food you must go here.

Fonda Espanya is for all seafood lovers out there. My husband and I had the tasting menu and were simply blown away. The food, atmosphere and service are superior to many Michelin starred restaurants we have tried. We thought that we would need to choose 1 option from each of the separated sections on the menu, but you get every single item listed. Needless to say we left quite full. The emulsioned salmorejo and red shrimp raviolis were the highlights of our meal!

My wife and I have been to Barcelona on four separate trips over the past 10 years. This is, by far and away, the best restaurant we've dined out.
We pried ourselves on being New York City foodies. So much so that we ate at four restaurants on this trip alone that all served "tasting menus". This is serious "experiencial dining".
Service is a "10" (Thank you Elisa). Food is incredibly inventive and labor intensive. The room/decor was perfect.
The wine paring was amazing. Their pours were generous and well matched and reflected the local vineyards.
I can't say enough nice things about dining at Fonda Espanya. We are coming back!!!

This was supposed to be rated 4 stars but it was far from it. 3 stars is generous. I was with my wife but other tables seemed to have similar experiences especially with the really slow service. As for the food…disappointed. We are foodies and good cooks. A lot of our dishes were very obviously pre-cooked and re-heated. Our cod fritters were bland and cold and sent back…and it was obvious they just microwaved them which made them rubbery. Octopus was tough however the grilled squid dish was passable. Truffle croquettes were good and best dish we had. With so much choice in Barcelona we suggest choosing another restaurant. Not a 4 star on our visit

Choosing a restaurant in Barcelona can be quite challenging tasks, especially if you invited more people and you want all of them have great experience. Not only Fonda España met ours but also exceed them in many aspects. We had 9-course menu and all dishes from the very first till the last one were very delicious but also visually appealing. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing Fonda España deserved their first Michelin star soon.
