The staff are fabulous at the hotel; and the rooms are beautifully clean. We were also able to check in by 1pm. But it is so very dark, it's depressing. We also had to keep our curtains drawn because anyone with a window looking onto the interior yard (which is more a place for a couple of potted plants and isn't for guest use) could see into our room, there was no privacy. We saw other guests also closing their curtains during the day. The wardrobe in the room could only hang shirts - my dresses were too long to hang, so they ended up creased. There has been no thought for anyone wishing to put on make-up at this hotel - no decent mirror with adequate lighting. The beds weren't comfortable either. The indoor pool is very, very dark, so dark it looked a little creepy, and not inviting at all. The terrace is lovely and bright and the food and service was good there too. The pool is quite shallow (waist height) and freezing cold! The towels provided were very small, more like a hand towel. We arrived back from dinner 5 minutes after midnight and were told that the bar was shut, which was hugely disappointing. So, much as the location is excellent, we weren't impressed. It appears to be more a gentleman's club. H1898 had been recommended to us and I am sorry not to have liked it more.

Good location, lovely towels and gowns and the bed was extremely comfortable with nice linen. The spa was also pleasant with only a couple of sweet children in arm bands there with their families
On arrival we tried to order drinks at the bar but apart from an extremely inebriated man standing behind the bar asking if we wanted beer or vodka there were no bar staff. We asked at reception if anyone was available to serve but no-one arrived. The drunkard was not agressive in the slightest and the hotel staff were aware he was there, however we found it off putting and were surprised it was allowed. He was still staggering round when we returned from a night out
Tried and tried but no way were we going to get hot water for a shower despite following the instructions .
Checking out took 25 mins, some problem with the system apparently, eventually we insisted we must leave for our flight.
We had an enjoyable stay in Barcelona but will probably choose to stay elsewhere next time.

This stunning hotel is perfectly located for the exploring visitor. It's the little things like the delightful scent as you enter, the immaculate cleanliness and super-helpful staff that set the right tone from the outset. In all fairness, we only used the hotel for sleep and were out exploring the vast majority of the time but to be able to return to such a large and comfortable bed was a true pleasure.

The room was very well stocked with all the nice extras that make a difference. It was super value for money (booked through Opodo) and I would return, without hesitation, to this excellent hotel and strongly encourage those considering it to go for it!

Just returned from a 3 night break. Had an amazing time. This hotel is outstanding. Everything was immaculately clean, breakfast was great, rooms lovely, roof top terrace is amazing. The staff all across the hotel could not do enough to help. It was very Covid safe and the location is perfect for sight seeing. 30 minutes to walk to the beach. We walked back from Sagrada Familia but it’s a fair trek to do it both ways. Barcelona as a city was amazing, most places seemed better value for money than say Paris or London. I could not recommend this hotel enough. The roof top pool would get quite busy I imagine but space is tight and it’s a city not Costa Brava. We always found somewhere to sit and relax, mid week seems quieter than weekend for obvious reasons. Aerobus is a great way to transfer to the airport. They come to Placa Catalunya every 5 minutes and it costs 5 euros each way. Not worth getting a taxi. Barcelona like many cities gets slightly edgy at night so I wouldn’t wander the side streets late. This hotel however is in a very safe and accessible place. Don’t hesitate to book here. We had an amazing experience.

When we arrived early for our 3pm check in, reception told us our room was already available. It was available, it just wasn’t our room. It was tiny, not the classic room with interior patio we’d paid for. And we hadn’t asked for twin beds either. Our first attempt to resolve this failed but after I pushed harder we were moved that day to a more suitable room. I took exception to being told it was because we’d asked for early check-in, we hadn’t. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a few days time ahead of a cruise. We were in no hurry, From conversations in the lobby area, it’s apparent we weren’t the first that day to be given that room or to be unhappy with their allocated room and then be moved.

Others have remarked on the (lack of) hot water in the bedrooms. We did report that too and the maintenance team just ran our shower and sink taps on full for several minutes before the hot water came through. So, yes there was hot water but as I suggested to Reception at check out, they might like to post a note in the rooms so guests know it can take quite a while for the water to warm up. It first appears that there is no hot water, a note would fend off calls and visits down to Reception.

The hotel is almost entirely accessible for wheelchair users. The lifts are very small which makes it a little difficult with luggage but it’s an old building. The breakfast room is divided into two sections by a few steps and unfortunately the breads and pastries were on the upper level and out of reach for wheelchair users to see and select without help (I don’t doubt staff there would have been more than happy to help). Wheelchair access to the rooftop bar is by lift and the bar itself is reachable by wheeling the perimeter, which I did, but it did mean disturbing a private party. Table service is provided though. The pool involves steps up so I didn’t attempt i.

I’m giving it three stars, not four because it is a 4* hotel and if nothing else we’d have expected a little more consideration from the front desk when we first raised the issue of room allocation. I shouldn’t have had to force the issue, that was unnecessary. We didn’t insist on an accessible room as was argued and in any case that first room was no more accessible and certainly a lot smaller and gloomier (it had just a tall narrow window, no patio door). Again it wasn’t what we paid for.

On the plus side it’s a beautiful building, the lobby area is very grand, the breakfast itself is plentiful and the (breakfast) staff are very helpful. When we made it to the right room, we had a comfortable sleep both nights, save for the loud music coming from the rooftop bar. But hey, it’s summer, people want to have a good time.

Dear Kelvin, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience or dissatisfaction you experienced during your visit. We regret the initial room allocation issue and any confusion or inconvenience it caused. We strive to provide a seamless and pleasant check-in experience for all our guests, and we apologize for falling short in your case. Your feedback has been shared with our team, and we will work on improving our communication and room allocation processes to avoid similar situations in the future. We appreciate your suggestion regarding the hot water in the rooms. Posting a note to inform guests about the time it takes for the water to warm up is a valuable suggestion, and we will certainly consider implementing it to enhance the overall guest experience. Regarding accessibility, we are pleased to hear that our hotel is mostly accessible for wheelchair users. We apologize for any difficulties you encountered with the steps in the breakfast room and the pool area. Your feedback will help us identify areas where we can further improve accessibility and provide a more inclusive experience for all our guests. On a positive note, we are glad you appreciated the beauty of our building, the grandeur of our lobby area, the plentiful breakfast, and the helpfulness of our breakfast staff. We apologize for any noise disturbances from the rooftop bar, and we appreciate your understanding that summer can bring liveliness to the surroundings. Once again, we apologize for any inconveniences you experienced and appreciate your honest feedback. We hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future, allowing us the opportunity to provide you with a truly enjoyable and seamless experience. Best regards,

Lux and comfortable, this hotel has a good location near the picturesque & hip Gothic Quarter. Highlights for me: friendly staff, classy lobby using aromatherapy, spa with sauna and pool, delicious breakfast (recommend the fresh bread and cheese selection), as well as excellent espresso and mocktails available at the bar on the main floor (Alberto, the bartender, made an excellent Cortado, made me feel at home on my first day, and gave me tips on what to see and how to get there). My classic room was beautiful with wooden floors, green marble bathroom, & deep soak tub. I stayed on the 6th (top) floor with an interior room which was quieter and still had a great view of a cathedral if you opened one of the windows. I dined in the in-hotel restaurant for dinner which had excellent service and amazing salad. There is also a rooftop bar (open til around 6) and pool (not heated) which are available. You can also sit on the patio furniture on the roof after the bar closes to enjoy the city lights or cool off after the spa. Love this hotel!

As soon as you step foot in the lobby, you can tell you're in for a treat, very clean, cool and smells wonderful. The staff were all welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculate and the bed was very cosy. The rooftop bar had great service and a stunning view, we always had somewhere comfortable to sit. The pool seemed a little small but actually made for a friendly environment speaking to other guests and plenty of room for swimming. Breakfast was well stocked, fresh juice, cava, meats, cheeses, hot food and tasty cake with a lovely lady at the front most days. Even after checking out, the reception staff let us leave our luggage for the day and sit in the lobby later whilst waiting for our taxi to the airport. I would absolutely recommend this hotel, great location for exploring the city, great food and drinks and great rooms

We had a great stay at this hotel;bedrooms are a good size, beds very comfortable and bathroom sparkling with lots of hot water. Linens changed daily. Breakfast buffet was superb - always kept refilled right up to the closing time of 11:00am.

Indoor pool was a great place to relax and the rooftop pool are was very chilled with great views over the city providing stunning sunrises and sunsets.

Staff here were particularly friendly and attentive.

The location is on Las Ramblas but many rooms face a quiet central courtyard so you get some peace along with convenience. Staff were all friendly and very helpful. Included breakfast had many tasty options, including the ability to make mimosas and bellinis. Beds were comfortable and decor is restful. We were off-season so the rooftop bar and pool had limited hours but it looks like an amazing place to have a relaxing drink after a day of sightseeing. Lobby bar was popular. Within comfortable walking distance of sights like Sagrada Familia and other Gaudi works in addition to the lively waterfront.

Had room 535 with a terrace this time.. North facing so no sun except a bit in the late afternoon. Room isn’t massive but the bed is.
As always the location, the two pools and the rooftop makes this an ideal choice whether you are sightseeing or just having a few days relaxing. The outside pool is open all year and currently unheated. Bracing but meant it wasn’t busy.
As an aside there are also lots of loos hidden around the place for those that don’t like an ensuite.
The restaurant was pretty good. Not terribly exciting menu but good when it came and similar prices to other places.
Staff are nice especially the busy chambermaids who are miracle workers. The breakfast team also gave us a handwritten note with chocolates on the last day which was very sweet of them.
