Wow! What a hotel! We visited Barcelona last July and revisited again this July 2021 and stayed at this divine hotel. Having arrived during the night approx 12.30am we were unsure what we would be met with but thankfully we were greeted and checked in by the lovely ‘Farran’ of whom was kind, professional and incredibly helpful whilst making us laugh. He gave us everything we needed and from then on we knew this hotel was special thanks to him. The rooftop terrace and pool is stunning, spectacular views over the city and even though it was on reduced hours due to covid it was still amazing. We enjoyed many bottles of fizz on the rooftop thanks to the lovely bar team, bottle of sparkling Anna is delicious (staff recommendation) and was the perfect tipple whilst watching the sunset. Our bedroom was always kept immaculate and the team provided everything we needed during our stay. Added bonus having an indoor pool, that’s fun! We had breakfast included which had everything from cheeses, hams, fruit, fresh pastries, yogurts, hot foot to even chocolate puddings! We were greeted by a gorgeous lady called ‘Mercedes’ of whom was SO friendly and kind also, she gave us a glass of cava at breakfast and offered any assistance with covid testing etc. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to couples and can’t WAIT to return.

Nice hotel, however if you are an iPhone / Mac user be aware that the free wifi will not work for you. The wifi is a struggle to connect then will connect for a few minutes, then drop, then signal will disappear for a few minutes. Very frustrating if you don’t plan to purchase an international sim or data plan and would not stay here again due to this issue. My partner and I had this problem across 4 days of our stay on 3 devices each (iPhone, iPad, and Mac book). For the price, I didn’t think this was an acceptable inconvenience, so would not recommend until they resolve their connectivity issues.

Stayed at this property for several days recently and it was an ok experience overall. I have to say, while the staff was nice and the location was convenient for walking to local shops and restaurants, the property itself is somewhat lacking. The main common area is beautiful, but several areas of the facility were not up to standard. The sauna was broken, my rooms shower had cracks in the shower wall, several marks on the ceiling, and various other cosmetic defects. The tools view was only that of a red wall and the curtains had to be kept closed as to not allow other visitors to see into your rooms (very close to one another). I have to say that the bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was great. While the rooftop pool is nice, it’s a bit small and can be crowded. The flooring on some parts of the rooftop area is also loose, which appeared to flex while walking on them. The restaurant on the roof is also just ok, with service being hard to get from staff at times and there being no bar area to sit at. Breakfast was also somewhat of a letdown, having very limited hot plate options and mostly consisting of fruit, breads, and deli meats, which was much less than other nearby hotel breakfast options. Overall this isn’t a bad property to stay at, but there are better options for the price point you’re paying. 3/5

The location is close to everything. Rooms are quite big and nice (the bed is even too big, lol), but a bit outdated, especially bathroom. Also sockets in the room are very low, so the rooms were designed not in the smartphones era.
Receptionists are useless. It took them almost 15 minutes when they were trying to take the deposit. I was totally tired after the flights and was patiently waiting while they were trying (collectively) to understand which buttons to press.
Also first time in my life I had to carry the ironing stuff from the reception till the room myself, because when I called they said that there is no one who can carry it and would be better to pick up myself. However when I went down there were 3 employees on the reception. Another day when I needed iron they brought it but it took half an hour and 2 my calls.

We were really looking forward to our stay at this hotel to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary and had paid a lot of money for staying here (over Easter break). The hotel did give us cava on arrival with a card to wish us happy anniversary which was very nice. We were told we had been given a room upgrade, but the room looked very similar to the standard room we’d booked. The hotel is in a good location, just off the Main Street in Barcelona. However, in general, we were quite disappointed with the stay. There was loud music playing throughout the hotel, particularly on the rooftop bar, and this could be heard in the rooms. Whilst some of the hotel staff were friendly, several were quite abrupt. Being a lesbian couple in our early 30s we didn’t feel very comfortable here. On arrival back to the hotel after a day out (our third day), the regular doorman stopped us at the doors asking if we were wanting to visit the rooftop bar and we had to explain that we were actually staying at the hotel. The hotel is getting a bit run down and could do with redecorating (e.g. paint peeling in rooms). We ate in the restaurant one night (most expensive meal of our trip) and the food was very disappointing. The breakfast food was fine and had a wide selection for a breakfast buffet.

We chose Hotel 1898 for our stay in Barcelona primarily because of its location and the rooftop pool. It turned out to be a great decision. Our room, with a French balcony facing La Rambla , was spacious and comfortable. It was hot and humid during our stay but the air conditioning, which was practically silent, cooled the room down beautifully. Breakfast, which was included, offered plenty of options to suit every taste. The rooftop pool is pristine, with plenty of seating and day beds. We found it refreshing to go for a dip and a pre-dinner cocktail after a busy day of sightseeing. A couple of times we had lunch at the pool and it was delicious. While the hotel amenities are lovely, its the staff that make it a truly special place. Shortly after check in, a bottle of cava was delivered to our room, along with a beautiful note wishing us a Happy Anniversary. We received a warm welcome from the breakfast team every day, and again at the pool where many work in the afternoon. The front desk team was happy to assist with transportation, printing, anything we needed. It was a wonderful stay and we would jump at the chance to visit again.,

We have visited Barcelona several times, generally preferring staying in Barceloneta or nearby. This trip, we decided we wanted to try a few nights above La Rambla. Hotel 1898 has several rooms facing it on each floor. We were on the 4th floor which I think is as low as we would want to be given the late night noise; another factor we hadn't considered is the sound (and feel) of the metro that comes through every few minutes - this quickly becomes background noise, but if that is an issue for you, then the hotel is very deep with rooms far away from La Rambla and I suspect the sound of the metro. Otherwise, the reception and concierge staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and well maintained and the rooftop pool and bar one of the best in town. I said the sleep quality is 4 only for our location on La Rambla; the bed was incredibly comfortable, the air conditioning very effective and quiet and the sound of La Rambla outside of the metro barely audible from our room.

We loved our stay in this fabulous Hotel. Our Privilege room was immaculate, beautifully presented, clean and roomy with a great view of the Cathedral. Breakfast offered a wide variety to eat and drink and we were well looked after by the team especially Ana who is a credit to the hotel. The roof terrace is a lovely feature where you can enjoy a 360 view of the city. We hope to return and will stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, perfect location for exploring the city and situated literally right next to loads of great places to eat and drink and explore. Metro stations close by to get to all the main tourist attractions which are a bit further away from this area of the city. Also walkable if you fancy it.
Room was stunning, spacious, cleaned everyday. Staff were friendly and accommodating, we had a late flight going home and after checking out they allowed us to use all facilities until it was time to leave.
Rooftop is stunning, we found space around the pool every time we visited and loved spending some time relaxing in the comfortable bar area or in the spa after long days of exploring.
Would definitely stay again and recommend to others!

Excellent location in La Rambla! Close walk to stores and quick food stops; great for late night outings. Also, near to St. Josep Market and Gothic Quarter which were great to explore and get lost in the daytime. Staff at check in were very welcoming and the rooftop pool was perfect to cool off in, especially while visiting in a heat wave.
Some minor cons are the expensive laundry service pricing for those traveling lightly and anticipating on washing clothes during their stay as well as the unfriendly/inattentive rooftop bar staff.
Overall, it was a great stay and would highly recommend in terms of cleanliness, location, and aesthetic.
