The staff were excellent and very thoughtful. One day when we came back to the room we interrupted the cleaners, who quickly finished up but came back again later the same day to see if we wanted any further cleaning done. The staff provided free drinks to the room a couple of times (a choice of three cocktails) which was a lovely surprise, and gave us a free bottle of cava on our final night to thank us for staying. These small thoughtful details were the cherry on top of a wonderful stay. The spa facilities are fantastic and the room very comfortable, spacious and clean. It was difficult to find room to sit on the roof terrace, particularly around the pool, but this is to be expected during the busy summer period and I believe you can book a table in advance. The location of the hotel is ideal, with many of Barcelona's best spots in easy walking distance.

My husband and I, along with my 1 year old have just spent 3 nights at Hotel 1898. We picked here for our trip based on recommendations we had received and were really looking forward to our stay. We were allocated room 425 on arrival. As you can imagine with a small child (or anyone looking to relax) we were shocked by the level of noise you could hear from the street - music blaring and people shouting so much so it was impossible to sleep. My husband asked at reception if it was possible for us to be moved the next night to which he received a ‘there are no other similar rooms available’ response. I emailed the manager but never received a response. The following day after we had been out visiting sites we returned to someone cleaning our room at 330pm (I never have had my room cleaned this late in any hotel I have ever stayed in and this happened on the next day also where I had to ring to ask for the room to be cleaned). After going to reception again I was told they had been trying to contact me by ringing the room not my mobile number?? We were allocated another room on the third floor which had much better soundproofing. My main issue was the rudeness of the staff member at reception. Instead of showing any sort of empathy we were treated with such disregard. No one ever followed up to see if our new room was ok or showed any interest in checking to see if we were ok. I had to ask for a cot multiple times before it arrived in our room at 6pm. On a positive the spa/pool area is great. Unfortunately however, I don’t think I could recommend staying here.

Like others have said this hotel is like an oasis just off the busy La Rambla and very chilled and relaxing. My room was quite small but perfect, beds super comfy and great shower. The rooftop bar is fabulous!
If you are not familiar with the city it is a perfect location for getting around as you are between the port and passeig de gracia and 2 minutes walk from the shops. Cannot wait to return!

Our family of 6 adults spent three glorious nights at the exquisite Hotel 1898. I would go back in a heartbeat! The rooms that my kids had were great but my husband and I had a suite that went beyond insane. It had an enormous terrace that included a pool, several lounge areas, and a dining area. Barcelona has so much to offer But we opted to stay to have dinner on our terrace two out of three nights, it was that beautiful. The view from our hotel room was amazing. We interacted with a number of staff people over our three days and to a person they were all extremely helpful and friendly. I got some names, including Ana, Vanessa, Adriana, Pilar, Rosa, Isa, Sebastian and Fernando (the breakfast team), who were great. The reception staff was also extremely helpful and nice. I unfortunately did not get the name of the young man from room service who brought up our dinners as well as ice and champagne glasses, but he deserves extra credit as well.
I highly recommend this beautiful hotel! Incredible location right on La Rambla. I give it a 10 out of 10 rating! And, I know that I am speaking for all six of our party not just myself.

Lovely hotel situated in the heart of Barcelona. The front of the hotel is on Las Ramblas, a stones throw from the Place de la Catalunya the location is perfect for those short on time but want to experience everything Barcelona has to offer. The hotel is beautiful… roomy bedrooms with good facilities, my husband said one of the best he has ever stayed in… the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The hidden gem is the spa… visit after the afternoon rush in the early evening when other guests are getting ready to go for dinner for the most relaxing experience. All in all a wonderfully pleasurable stay. Will return!

Hotel 1898 is on La Rambla feet from the Gothic area. This location provided us with great local access to many places that we wanted to visit and was a 10 minute walk to the Metro. This elegant hotel is well staffed and everyone spoke English . The breakfast is world class. The standard room that we had was more than sufficient for a week stay, though we found the mechanics of the European shower a bit tricky to master. There are actually written directions to follow. We very much enjoyed the pool on the lower level at the Spa on a daily basis and the rooftop pool area which features plenty of lounging areas including covered cabanas, a bar and live music including an acoustical guitarist and singer who was quite talented. Overall, I would highly recommend Hotel 1898 when visiting Barcelona. It exceeded our expectations.

We stayed here 4 nights. We were very comfortable. Aircon was good. Breakfast was good. We think The hotel is expensive compared to other places close by. Toilets are ridiculously planned. The shower area is very very narrow suitable for a kid. Even though I am not a big guy , I kept nicking my elbow here and there while showering. I almost slipped once. I think the management should seriously consider to re-design the toilets and make the shower area larger if not an accident is waiting to happen. You will hear the mild rumbling of the underground metro specially at night. Also take the room further away from the elevator as late night drunk revellers from the roof top bar will disturb your sleep if your a light sleeper like me. It’s very centrally located with great places to eat and surrounded by cafe and bars . Almost Everything is walkable like the hop on hop off or the pier or shopping stores like Zara is almost everywhere. It’s a noisey area and u need to get in a line for everything which is frustrating. People are impatient and rude. actually if you like the typical European quiet atmosphere like I do then don’t stay here. Choose a hotel little further away because it won’t matter as every area is well developed . Eat at honest greens , national steak house, el rinco, wok a walk if you like healthy food , salads and veggies

We stayed at this hotel when life was normal and travel was fun. We are now considering travelling again and Barcelona is in our path so we started looking for options and memories flooded back, so I had to write this review as a thank you note and as an encouragement for the team which may have seen better times.
I just wanted you to know that we had a fabulous time with you guys in May 2019. We loved the location, the services, the food but most importantly the staff that made us feel so welcomed and cosy when spending time in the lobby drinking a cocktail after dinner. We travelled as a couple, stayed for 5 nights in room 427, a Superior room at the back of the hotel with a balcony. Room was clean and fully appointed, loved the balcony, overlooking Bar Lobo and Gats restaurants. Which are both great places for tapas, by the way. Lovely staff. For the shower, we couldn't figure out how to use it until we noticed there was a card with directions beside the sink, after that we figured it out, lol! There is instant coffee in the room with an electric kettle. The coffee is pretty decent for instant though! If you need fresh brewed just step out to the Bouqueria market like barely 1 minute walk, and get one there from the booth at the entrance. Rooftop bar is awesome, met a lot of other guests up there and it's fun to see all the views. Loved the spa and pool in the lower level. So relaxing and the brick walls have character. Location was perfect, we could walk to almost everything (the beach, or the Sangria Familia, or Casa Mila, Casa Battllo, Arc de Triomf, high end shopping, or cheesy souvenir shopping, great restaurants are everywhere) and steps to access to transit and taxis if you want to go farther out. Steps to Bouqueria market to grab some fresh fruit and fruit juice or try some wonderful fresh food. Really can't say enough good things about this hotel, if I was to return to Barcelona I'd want to stay there again.

We have just arrived back in the UK after a week at this hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location just on La Rambla, so very central and easy to explore places on foot. The lobby of the hotel smells amazing, a lovely perfume smell which I loved.
The bed in the room was the most comfortable I have ever slept in at a hotel! Lovely soft fluffy pillows. The room itself was spacious and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the sockets stopped working in our room one evening and after a call to reception, someone came up to fix this immediately.
The rooftop was great, we did visit a couple of other hotel rooftop bars and I have to say that this one was by far the best. The pool is refreshing and the hotel provides towels at the pool which is a nice addition. The view across the city from the rooftop is excellent.
Would return, thank you for an excellent stay.

Sadly, the pools and sauna were closed due to the drought. I think this was for the whole of Catalunya when we were there mid-February.
We stayed in December and have to see the double bed was one of the largest we have ever stayed in!
