overall everything about this hotel is quite small and compact, but saying that for a 3 or 4 night break is fine.the staff all over the hotel are very friendly and helpful.the breakfast fair choice and quite fresh coffee and orange nice .breakfast room quite small about 6 or 7 tables.reception is also on the small size, and the lift only holds 3 people maximum.rooms again very small with a very small balcony.but clean and tidy bedding room kept well clean and also bathroom and towels also.
faults are only minor apart from the walls are so thin you hear other peoples toilets being used among other things, wardrobe mirror was cracked at the bottom.and no back cover on tv remote.floor tile in bathroom broken and half missing.few dirty marks on the walls and tv ariel socket hanging out of the wall covered over by a rubbish bin.big minus point trffic noise outside very noisy.

The hotel is located next to metro station, therefore the city centre is few minutes away. If you prefer taxi, there are always 5 to 10 cars waiting outside the hotel. The hotel has a free wi-fi connection as well as the internet terminal. The room was ok. Has a balcony, not to much noise from the outside.

Good, modern and clean place for party of 2 in a 15 min walk from Sagrada Familia cathedral. Rooms however are very small. We had 4 people in our family, so had to book 2 rooms. It was great to discover a tea kettle and а refrigerator in a room. It is really useful and you can skip on a breakfast and have a tea right in your room to save some time. However, be aware that refrigerator works only when the key card is inserted into the controller in a room. All electric supply terminates as soon as a key card is removed and if you left anything in a refrigerator it will not stay cold. Also, it will probably take several hours for the refrigerator to cool when it has an electricity.
Otherwise I would highly recommend this place.

A 10 day visit, in Barcelona for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and made a holiday of it. We chose this hotel because of the price, compared to others in the same area Medicis is a bargain. Because of that we weren't expecting much, and we have been very pleasantly surprised.

The location is great, Metro station just a minute or two walk away and the Metro can get you anywhere pretty quickly. We did in fact walk all the way into central Barcelona, it took about 45 minutes or so but feet were aching afterwards.

If you want to stay local because your feet are aching from exploring, Avinguda De Gaudi which is a tree lined avenue between the hotel and the Sagrada Familia the wonderful huge gothic church designed by Gaudi is right around the corner, with lots of places to eat.

So yes, the location is spot on! The hotel too is very clean and the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay a good one. The first room we were in (201) we didn't like so much, any room ending 01 does not have a balcony, and the view is onto a rear enclosed fire escape. The room is very dark. Avoid those rooms if you can. We asked to move and they moved us to the 5th floor (502) which is a lovely room with a balcony and very light. Also the wifi worked perfectly, it's quick and completely free.

As other reviewers have mentioned the hotel is on a busy junction. There is some road noise but it didn't disturb us. At night we wear earplugs anyway! If you do the same you will sleep like a baby. During the day and evening there is more traffic noise but we quite liked the buzz and watching the world pass by from the balcony.

I've attached a pic of the junction from our balcony, and a plan of rooms. Each floor is the same. The higher the floor you get the less noise there will be although it won't make that much difference.

We are coming back. We're really impressed with what you get for the price. We've really enjoyed our stay here.

Our first visit to Barcelona, and we love it here!

* The staff was very helpful and friendly (!)
* Great location in Castillejos, nice neighborhood, you most likely won't get into trouble and a taxi won't charge you more then 10 euros to Rambla, for example
* A big plus is that the breakfast buffet is included in the price - it's not fancy but consistent, good food
* Basic rooms but comfortable
* The free wi fi everywhere really works

A hotel with great value for our money :)

P.S.: Barcelona is such a beautiful city...

Fantastic hotel. Small rooms with comfy beds, fab air con, brilliant shower/bathroom. The roof 'solarium' was wonderful to sunbathe on in the evenings and the staff were so friendly always saying hello and asking how we were when we walked in and left. They gave us a map as soon as we checked in and told us all the bus routes to use to get to places. Could answer all our questions. Cleaners did a great job too and always smiled! Bus stop literally just round the corner which has cheap buses to almost everywhere (park guell, port olympic, plaza catalunya etc) as well as a metro station although we didnt use that. Also just round the corner from Av. Gaudi which has a huge diversity of restaurants/cafes and little shops. 10 min walk from sagrada familia. Couldn't recommend a better hotel. Can hear neighbours showering though but that was quite funny!!

Just a few blocks up from the Sagrada Familia and a couple of minutes from a metro stop, this hotel had friendly, helpful staff and a nice quality room. The only drawback was the loud noise of the cleaners early morning, travelling through the walls!

Before we arrived we were a little concerned as the hotel looks away from the centre and is only a 2 star. However this is possibly the best 2 star hotel I have ever stayed in! The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was perfectly adequate (omelette, cheeses, hams, salamis, cereals, fruit, breads, yoghurts, pastries), the room was small but enough space for us to be comfortable, very clean bathroom. As for location, the Sagrada Familia was only 10mins walk away (we were only strolling) and there is a Metro station only 5 mins walk away which is so easy to use to get around the city. All in all this was a great little hotel and fantastic value.
Only negative (and this wasn't a huge problem at all) was the thin walls - if you are a light sleeper then if might be a problem because you can hear everything from the rooms next door!

I paid $71 (cdn) per night. The location was fine (only 5 metro stops from the city-centre). The service was fine. Fine places to eat around the place. I don't know why people complain about a place that only costs $71 per night.

Its fine, you get for what you pay for. I received fine value.

The location of the Medium Medicis is pretty good. It is a 10-minute walk to Sagrada Familia and 5-minute walk to Hospital San Pau, which is where the closest Metro stop is, too. Almost all tourist sights are easily accessed by one transfer on the Metro.

The hotel itself is very modern in appearance, with red, white, and black as the design colors. The rooms were adequately sized, a bit larger than similarly priced European rooms. During our stay we had a single (room 503) with balcony facing the road, a double (room 502) with balcony facing the road, and another double (room 501) facing the alley/other buildings. All the rooms suffered severely from lack of noise insulation. The rooms facing the road got a lot of street noise, and all the rooms were affected by noise within the hotel - people slamming doors, the elevator, people on the stairway. This was a big problem and really surprising.

The people working at the desk were kind, though young, and most had a decent handle on English. Bathrooms were nice, but didn't ventilate extremely well. Room 503 always smelled musty. The beds were a little hard, and the pillows unusual - one large and square, the other long and roll-like.

Too bad the hotel was so, so noisy - it would have gotten 4 stars, otherwise.
