Any time I am in Inuvik, I stay here. It is a beautiful hidden gem. I have stayed in all seasons in various rooms and have never been disappointed. The lake view room in the upstairs of the main home is roomy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could need. The view is spectacular and the porch off the room is a wonderful place to sit. I have also stayed in the small cabins. These have a cottage feel with all the kitchen amenities you could need! A kettle, stove top, fridge, and even an assortment of teas. The best place to stay however is the beautiful family cabin. The Eagle cabin. This cabin is tucked away in a far corner you can drive up to. It is a beautiful cottage with plenty of space for a family. It has a giant deck with a bbq, a big comfortable warm bed and bunk beds in a separate room. From this cabin you cannot hear the dogs if you are a light sleeper. The Arctic Chalet is close enough to Inuvik (a short ride, but I have also biked into town in around 10-15 min). There are beautiful walking trails, a lake and canoes for rent. In the winter I highly highly highly recommend going dog sledding here. It was a beautiful and incredible experience. They provide everything you could need to feel safe warm and comfortable. Judy is incredibly accommodating for anything you need. I have boarded my little dog here, I have gotten travel advice, borrowed gear for cold weather, and she is always willing to help in any way she can. This is my favourite place to be in Inuvik!

Arctic Chalet has a beautiful setting on a lake with charming log cabins scattered among the trees. Judi & Olav are incredible hosts. They offer such a variety of interesting experiences - sled dog outings, tours of the Dempster Highway south and to Tuktoyaktuk to the North. They have wilderness cabins as well. The Arctic Chalet cabins have in-floor heating, so are always toasty warm on your feet. Each unit has a small (or complete) kitchen, roomy washroom, beds, table & chairs, a comfortable chair and a lovely porch. Trails leave from your doorstep. A short walk will take you to a beautiful wilderness lake. We've spotted moose tracks along the trail (which has a walk bridge crossing a small stream). A canoe is available in summer. Long hikes, skis or other outings can be planned to span hours without seeing another person or building. It's a short walk into town (there is a trail; in winter, the ice road makes a scenic walk). Judi & Olav offer free use of a car as well for quick errands. The whole atmosphere is serene, quiet and peaceful. The perfect place to stay!

Six buddies stayed for 2 nights in Mid August. We had the family cabin and the room above the main house. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. We made use of the bbq and the kitchen was equipped to handle our needs.

So I am in the process of moving to a isolated community in the North and thought this would be a good place to stay a couple of nights on my layover and took in the fact that these cabins would be good as they would have out door access for my 14 year old dog. I emailed the contact number and never received a email back. My wife called 4 times and left several messages before they got back to us. The contact "Judy" was happy to take our credit card and confirm our reservation as well as our vehicle rental. Four days before our our stay we get a call from Judy who tells us that we can no longer stay there because they are going to house quarantined teachers instead. But don't worry they want to accommodate my dogs and kennel them but we can't stay there with them. This is very poor business management practices. I will continue to encourage people to stay elsewhere. People beware ... your reservation does not mean you have an actual reservation with this company it sounds like someone who offers more or willing to stay longer you will get bumped.

My family stayed on Judy and Olov’s property in mid August. Being new to the territories, we were disconnected. We instantly felt safe and at peace at the Arctic Chalet. I forgot to write a review in September, so this is long overdue. I feel it is important to acknowledge our stay as it was a wonderful one. We had to stay here for 2 weeks and the time went by quickly. We were so fortunate and more importantly, our 10 year old daughter was introduced to all the beauty and fun this resort had to offer! She caught her first big fish, canoed on the lake, she got to see the beautiful huskies every day, she rode her bike and walked the river and trails. Judy and Olav are lovely, helpful folks who take care of their space and their land. They run a well
organized, practical, environmentally friendly resort! In a few weeks we will once again be guests at the chalet. The family cabin we stayed in is a dream and had everything we needed to make our stay cosy and comfortable. I highly recommend this resort to anyone and everyone. I know we are excited to walk the trails with snow on the ground in a few weeks!

We took the 5 day tour from Dawson to the Arctic Ocean through the Arctic Chalet tours in Inuvik. We spent one night in Eagle Plains and three nights in a log chalet at the Arctic Chalet resort in Inuvik. The proprietor Olav was our fabulous driver and guide. His wife Judi was the behind the scenes organizer. Olav was so knowledgeable, insightful and had so much first hand experience to share. There were 9 of us on the tour and we all learned so much and developed a real appreciation for what it takes to live so far north. Our tour took us up the Dempster Highway through spectacular scenery all the way to Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean. Many great photo ops along the way. Our tour had many facets including a flight over the MacKenzie Delta and a cultural lunch and chat in a local’s home in Tuktoyuktuk.

We had an incredible time at the Arctic Chalet. We traveled with our boys, 10 and 14, and all of us loved it. We each got to drive our own dog sled with the beautiful and friendly huskies. We blasted through the forest on snowmobiles. Drove up to Tuktoyaktuk to see the Arctic Ocean. Had a tour of the Ice Road. Watched fireworks, went skating and ate muk tuk at the Sunrise Festival. And all in three days! People often through around the phrase "once in a lifetime" but this adventure actually lives up to it.

I really don't like to heavily criticize local home-based businesses, but I am compelled to tell my fellow travellers about my disappointments here. First I'll say that indeed the huskies are an interesting aspect of the lodge, that it is in a nice setting, and that the owners being fluent in several languages is great.

Unfortunately my experience here was horrible. My collegue and I had problems right away. When we arrived, we were shown to the upstairs of the lodge, which had two bedrooms and shared kitchen/shower/toilet. This is not what my collegue said was promised to us when he reserved us a spot there. We were expecting two separate cabins, which I'm SURE were much nicer than these upstairs rooms. I would advise you to make sure you don't get shortchanged by getting the upstairs of the lodge like we did. Also, you can hear absolutely everything going on in the check-in spot, which is directly below, and people are coming and going all day and well into the evening. When people can't find the hosts, they just trample on upstairs into your kitchen, as there is nothing preventing them from thinking it's part of the lodge that is accessible to them. When the owner is checking people in, she will also talk with them extensively for up to half an hour. Great for the check-in guests, horrible for whoever got stuck in the upstairs rooms. You have to listen to it all day, in addition to the door slamming, and people leaving it open for the cold air to come in.

Then there is the aspect of the huskies. This is by no means a peaceful place to stay. If you like the sound of 20 barking dogs throughout the day, great. But if you don't want to listen to a loud dog kennel all day and up to 10 p.m. at night, steer clear of this place.

Aside from that, the woman running the place is so run ragged that she screwed up our reservations. I feel bad complaining when someone is working so hard, but she was so rude about it. On our last night there she wanted to jam my work collegue and I into a room together (we are man and woman, and this didn't work for us), while she jammed a bunch of tourists into the other room upstairs. Despite she had made the mistake in double booking (because we went over our reservations on the first day with her and it all seemed fine then), we are the ones faced with the brunt of her confusion. We said we weren't happy with the situation, then she started going on about how inflexible we were, and basically tried to pin it on us the whole time. Not very professional, and obviously she didn't give a hoot about our business (which is a shame because we come from a large organization of people who travel a lot to Inuvik and might have otherwise given them more business in the future). So there we were, feeling horrible and unwelcome because of her mistake, and how rude she was getting. She said it was up to us to check in with her every day so her confusion was our fault. Why would we check in with her all the time to make sure everything was all right when we were clear about our reservations?

If you want a B&B, this is not it. Fraught with problems. And they don't serve you breakfast there. They have kitchenettes, but you don't get breakfast. What we found for breaky in our kitchenette included some sour milk and stale bread from whomever was there before.

Sorry to be so negative, but I wouldn't recommend that you spend your money here. Thankfully Capital Suites would take us on our last night here, and what a relief. Will never go back or recommend this place to ANYONE

In previous years, we have enjoyed our stays at the Arctic Chalet with very minor to no problems. However, this year has definitely changed our minds on booking accommodations for our annual business trip next year to the North West Territories.

For Example:
*She was 45 minutes late picking us up from the airport
*She put us in a trailer instead of a cabin which was initially booked. The trailer door had to be hip-chucked to open, the oven door was broken on the stove, and the trailer was noticeably unlevel.
*She was 15 minutes late meeting us to check us out, at a scheduled time, she claimed would be lots of time to be there for our flight.
*She tried to make another guest pay for both the B&B that she had booked for him at another location (due to the fact that she got his reservation wrong and booked him short of a day) because she forgot to call and cancel his reservation when a space (by space I mean a decrepit old camper) became available at the Chalet.
*She made us miss our flight because of her tardiness and the fact that she forgot what time our flight was…even though there's only 1 flight out of Inuvik everyday from that airline…no apology.
*She was an hour late picking us up from the airport after she made us miss our flight. Her excuse was that she just forgot all about us and then she just figured that we had taken a cab in to town - no apology.
*She forgot all about the fact that another guest wanted to book a flight out to Herschel Island through her assistance. She then proceeded to tell him (and us after we missed our flight due to her flakiness) all about her wonderful "once-in-a-lifetime-for-most-people" trip to Herschel Island…
*She fought HARD not to give us a free night of accommodation even though she made us miss our flight (she blamed us for this because she felt no “urgency” and therefore no need to get us to the airport right away)…we ended up agreeing on 1/2 price and she "didn't" charge us for our shuttle back from the airport when we missed our flight because "it was a bad day for us"
*When we arrived back in Edmonton and I check our bill, I found that our room rate had gone up by…you guessed it $20…the cost of 1 shuttle ride from the airport…unbelievable...

Inuvik is beautiful, and the arctic huskies are adorable and add a nice charm to the so called B&B. If you are looking for a true B&B, this is not it. The proclaimed make-it-yourself breakfast provided us with a couple juice boxes; expired skim milk powder; sugar cubes left open for any rodents; pancake mix and instant oatmeal mix. I really wish I had more positive things to say about this place, for they do seem like a nice couple. Perhaps a stay in the dead season would have given my co-worker and me a different attitude and a different experience all together. Nevertheless, it hasn’t and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I hope for any future guests that your stay will be the opposite of ours.

Don't know who writes their reviews - but my experience was very disappointing. I travel to Inuvik regularly to work - decided to take a couple of extra days to have an out of city experience, stay in a cabin by a lake and fly to Tuk. Well - the disappointment began on the ride back from the aiport when I was informed the flight to Tuk would not take place because the ferry was not running and the others booked for the trip would not make it. (understandable in the North!) However, my hostess, Judi, was less than helpful in making recommendations for how I might fill my time there. I was escorted to an o.k. cabin - Bed and Breakfast it is not!! One juice box and some cold cereal or pancake mix to prepare myself :-( - Decided to bail - could not endure a weekend in this place - called Capital Suites (where I have stayed in the past) - they sent a cab to rescue me. I booked a tour to Tuk with Up North tours - a wonderful company - run by long time locals (check their website!) - had a great flight and tour in TuK - my trip was rescued an I had a great week working in this delightful community!!!
Will be back in the fall - but not to this place!!!!!!

There were four of us travelling together on motorcycles and we arrived on Canada Day 2014. We had reserved the two bedroom suite above the Office and Judy and Olaf's home. I paid for half and it was $126.00. We reserved it in January 2014 to make sure we had a place to stay. Judy and Olaf could not have been more helpful. They let us use their car to go into town and get some groceries and beer. We were offered their pressure washer if we wanted to clean our bikes up. Top notch service.
