We stayed at the Pines for two nights in room 11. Larry upgraded us to a king size bed. The room was recently renovated/updated. The bathroom was not but was clean and functional. We had a fridge, microwave, and A/C. Larry also had some park passes and we were lucky to get one. The grounds of the motel also had good amenities (BBQ, picnic tables, pool, games area, etc.). The location was perfect for exploring the island and the park. The view from the motel was very picturesque too. Believe the reviews. If you are looking for an affordable, clean, well-maintained place to stay with warm and welcoming hosts, choose the Pines. Larry and the rest of the staff are super attentive, helpful, and kind. My partner and I enjoyed our stay and will remember the Pines when we return to PEI. Thank you Larry and staff.

We stayed at the Pines Motel in the cottage for one week. Mark and Larry were very accommodating and provided a playpen and highchair for our baby.
Even though we were 5 people in a one bedroom cottage, we were very comfortable. The cottage has two pull out couches and a separate bedroom. The view of the river is simply stunning and so nice to wake up to. There is a small playground for the kids with a couple of swings and a teeter-totter. The heated pool was nice for relaxing in the evening after a day of exploring.
The Pines needs some updating but it is obvious that Mark and Larry are putting a ton of work into the place. I would love to come back in a couple of years and see all their hard work pay off.
In terms of the location, we loved staying in North Rustico. The Pines is within a couple of kms to North Rustico harbour where you can buy fresh seafood that comes in daily. It has a lovely boardwalk and bigger park for the kids. You can get to Cavendish and a variety of activities very quickly as well.
If we ravel to PEI again, we would most certainly book at the Pines.

Room Tip: The cottages are amazing. The pull out couches are not too bad for a pull out.

Response from Mark I, Owner at Pines Motel
Responded Aug 17, 2015
Thank you for taking the time to write a review Vanessa. Larry and I have a vision of how we want the motel and cottages to look. As you said, it will take a few years but we will get there. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family, and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you in the future. Larry & Mark

Spent 2 nights here with my husband, 6 year old daughter and mother and we absolutely loved it. We were in cottage 3, two bedrooms with a queen bed in one and twin and double in the other so it was truly made for our needs. It was our first family vacation and first time to PEI for all except my husband so I did a ton of online research about where to stay. The reviews were what sold me on The Pines.
Starting with location, this place is a real diamond. 15 minutes down the road from Cavendish Beach and Sandspit. Right on the river, with a restaurant at the end of the road (pricey food but a patio and it's all part of the experience). Most notably, after driving around and seeing how exposed or cramped or right on the main road the other properties were, we felt spoiled with our location that has a sprawling yard with privacy thanks to the river and being in off the main rode. Cottage 3 especially removes you from the world as it looks out onto the trees between the property and the river. It's also right by the play structure so I could watch my daughter play from our deck or living room window. The pool was a huge hit with her too, and she was in there 3-4 times. It's 5 ft at the deep end so better than most hotel pools! There are Adirondack chairs, loungers, pool noodles and floaties supplied and towels are available for the pool from the office.
When we walked into the cottage, we could smell cleaner. Not offensively strong, just enough to know the place was thoroughly cared for between guests.
We truly wanted for nothing in this cottage. All amenities were there to be found, even a barbecue lighter. Each bedroom had a fan, there's an AC in the living room, and a spot to hang coats behind the TV. The space is utilized very smartly. Special shout out to the beds, which were AWESOME, with nice soft pillows. Extra blankets were found in the dressers.
There was also a handy binder on the table with all the property information and furthermore about the town and all nearby attractions and resources, like where the closest pharmacy was for example.
Because we were there on weekdays, it was quiet. We didn't see many other guests, though there were other vehicles. It made for relaxing nights and easy sleeping.
Lastly, the owner? What a lovely guy. So personable, very easy to talk to. A call away at any time, and easy to find when we checked in and out.
We were so happy here, we plan on returning every summer and always to cottage 3 if possible.

One thing to note was my GPS took us down some sketchy one lane dirt road about 15 minutes before our arrival. No idea why, but the owner said several people mentioned it to him, because I'm sure like us they were confused and a little scared lol so perhaps double check your routing if you're using GPS. The main roads will get you to The Pines easily.

We are a family of 5: 2 adults, 3 older teenagers. The owners kindly waited up for us, as we arrived around 10pm, showed us to our cottage and gave us information for breakfast. There is also a very complete binder in every cottage which is worth consulting. The size of the cottage was perfect for our needs, and included two separate rooms, and a pull out sofa in a common room with a table. Due to full booking of the facility, we were moved into another cottage after two nights (this was to our knowledge) but the staff did the moving for us including the fridge contents! Location was great, near North Rustico for bike/kayak rentals, beaches, shopping for crafts...and great food. We took lots of drives, and everything is easily accessible. One word of caution: time your meals, as restaurants seems to close around 8pm unless you drive to Charlottetown (25 min away)! The grounds are quiet, we slept like babies.I had to adjust to the satiny sheets but was fine once I realized there were cotton pillowcases available. The view of the river is fantastic and I enjoyed sitting on the deck first thing in the morning. If I was more organized, I would have brought some coffee to use in the coffee maker! The owners are accommodating and allow use of the laundry facilities in the evening at a very low price which was much appreciated. The cottages are clean, and equipped with soap, dishes, cutlery, pans, etc. There is ongoing work being done on the cottages, we would love to return one day.

We loved staying here and wished we had more time to stay and play. Our cottage featured a new heat pump, two bedrooms, and three beds. The view was amazing and it was quieter than staying right up in Cavendish. We enjoyed stunning sunsets and star gazing from our Adirondacks, and having breakfast as a family on the picnick table. We had everything we needed - even a BBQ. Larry was so friendly and made us immediately feel welcomed. I'm really looking forward to staying again. This place is so homey, like a real family cottage.
