If you've read any of my recent reviews, you'll know I was in Barcelona courtesy of my husband who gave me this break for my birthday. (It’s horrible and therefore I'm not telling you which one)
My hubby is well known for liking his creature comforts and that liking extends to me as well, though I'd go anywhere he wants to take me. This hotel is definitely a cut above the rest. Nestled in a narrow street in the Gothic quarter of the city, it is hidden from prying eyes. A perfect retreat for those not wanting the glare and trappings of tourism.
Our room was lovely, recently renovated with a huge eight-foot bed, Juliette balcony and large walk in shower room, easily taking two, if you know what I mean. My son who accompanied us as usual, had a similar room decorated to a high standard too, but without the balcony, instead he had a bidet, we don't see many of those anymore.
The hotel has a nice jacuzzi pool, if a little snug, and a steam room in the basement. They also offer a Massage service. We appeared to be the only ones taking advantage of the pool every day. The privacy feel was lovely, I didn’t worry about not looking ready for the cat-walk 24/7. This hotel doesn't have loads of rooms; hence the clientele isn't many in numbers which is nice.
On the roof there in another lovely swimming pool, but again it is bijou and more of a splash zone than anything you can actively swim in. I was disappointed that we didn't have time to use it. The days weren't hot enough to warm the water sufficiently, unlike the lovely pool downstairs. I like my warmth. One side of the pool is sheet acrylic displaying all the swimmers activities and though I like the idea watching other folk, I wasn't sure how self-conscious I'd feel not being a size six. By the pool are a couple of four poster sun beds and several pod sunbeds too. The pool is closed in the evening.
The pool area sits alongside the intimate rooftop terrace bar. The bar is open at 2pm until 11pm and all soft drinks and tea/coffee are free. Also free are the tapas all day, which includes Danish pastries, wraps, omelettes, salads, fruit, yoghurts and several hot dishes like meatballs, hotdogs etc. A real treat. I had to struggle down mouthfuls of pastries.
The hotel has a restaurant, but it only serves breakfast (At £20 per person) and we could see why. There are hundreds of eating places within yards of the road. The majority of Barcelona residents tend to eat Danish Pastries for breakfast too and there are dozens dotted about. They also eat dinner very late and it took a while to move our time clocks on so we weren't the only ones sitting down to eat at a resturant.
See my other reviews of the restaurants we ate in while there - some good ones – on Trip Adviser. Plus, the things we did while there.
This hotel is a gem, the staff were amazing, smiley and friendly. We received little treats in the room each day of chocolate truffles etc. I felt a bit guilty forgetting to tip our chambermaid at the end of our break, but fortunately my son left some euros in his room. This is a hotel we’d return too, despite my husband occasionally reminding to me how expensive it was without letting on the cost.
A quality hotel in the precise location, putting the customer at the heart of their care.
