Write a reviewDon’t hesitate to book this hotel as it has everything you need for a stay in Barcelona - the location is ideal, the rooms are excellent and spotlessly clean, it has a rooftop bar and pool but above all the customer service from start to finish is first class. All communication with the hotel before we arrived was dealt with promptly and every member of staff you encounter are so pleasant and helpful. I definitely recommend the Sangria from the rooftop bar. I’ve stayed in a number of other hotels in Barcelona and have to rate this as my favourite. Try it and you won’t be disappointed.

The hotel is very clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the rooftop terrace/bar/pool has a lovely view and is perfect for rest and relaxation. Marco at the rooftop bar is the best - his whiskey sours cannot be beat! We have gone to the pool daily and always hope Marco is there. The breakfast add on is worth it - made to order eggs and pancakes in addition to a buffet of fresh fruit, meats, cheese, bread/pastries, etc., and coffee to go. The only area for improvement is the spa - our 90 min massages were underwhelming. We were not asked what areas we wanted to be worked on/massaged and it seemed like the massage staff were not trained on massage. The massage aside, 10/10 would recommend - we will book again when back in Barcelona.

We were looking for a nice hotel Barcelona and "stumbled" upon the Magdalenes. I say "stumbled" because when we were searching, it was not often on web lists. It turns out that this is a relatively new hotel (15 months) and I would call it a hidden gem. The hotel is located on a quiet side street just a short block from a major road and a 5 minute walk from Plaza Catalunya to the north and the city/state office square to the south. Several metro lines are also within a five minute walk.
The hotel design is modern, but comfortably so. We chose a "superior" level room, but this got us a free full breakfast each morning and the breakfast was better than most we have had in Europe. The hotel also offers "snacks" on the rooftop bar after 2pm - which was more than ample to use as dinner if you chose, as we did on a couple of nights. Our room was very comfortable, with a sofa, desk and chair, and even had a small balcony. Windows were at least double-pane so there was little, if any street noise.
The staff was completely welcoming and helpful from check-in to check-out.
While we often look for smaller hotels run by families or small chains, this hotel was terrific and should not be overlooked.

Party of 4 stayed in 2 rooms in September. Catalonia Magdalenes is in a great location in the Gothic Quarter, close to the main attractions, and good restaurants. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the rooftop bar and pool/sun terrace was contemporary and had great views of the cathedral. I found all the staff to be extremely friendly and professional. Overall really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at this beautiful boutique hotel.
Location is excellent- a hidden gem in the beautiful narrow streets of the gothic quarter, a short walk from Placa de Catalunya, Casa Batllo, La Rambla and the port and beaches. An ideal location for catching the tour bus or the metro to visit tourist sites which are a bit further away.
I found the staff to be pleasant, helpful and friendly. We arrived much earlier than the requested check in time and expected to just leave our bags and return later but the room was ready for us within minutes, excellent service. We were provided with a map of the area and advised on areas to visit.
The hotel felt like a home from home. Modern decor and clean. We had a standard double room and it was big enough for two- we didn't feel cramped like we have done in other hotels we've stayed at in European cities. Nespresso machine in the room- perfect. The shower is amazing with a great selection of toiletries and amenities provided.
The free snacks provided at the rooftop bar every day are an added luxury. Perfect after a long busy day touring the sites. The pool area is small but adequate. Perfect when you just want to chill.
We used the indoor pool/spa, it was just what we needed. Be sure to ask at reception for a key for the lockers beforehand, we didn't and ended up going back up to the room in the lifts in our towels- a little embarrassing when the lifts open at reception to let people in.
The breakfast was ok- continental selection, a small number of cooked items and a well stocked Nespresso bar. If you like a cooked breakfast I'd suggest going elsewhere though.
Barcelona is a charming, bustling city and I will definitely return and stay in this hotel. Highly recommended.
