Neighbourhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

- FarmBoyYorkshire160 contributionsMust See/ Do In NYC - Up There With Any NYC Tourist AttractionLoved this... although a relatively new attraction this has become a must to do in NYC. A really great innovative conversion of a raised train track through midtown NYC which affords a lovely walk through the area without stopping every block and with beautifully maintained vegetation and plenty of places to stop and sit and take in a view New York. Walked from the Hudson's Yard/ The Vessel down to Chelsea Markets ... best way to do that I reckon. There were plenty of people walking but never felt busy/ overcrowded. A great free attraction - high recommendVisited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten July 25, 2023
- Trips NTipsCanada65 contributionsLoved itThe high line. I was very surprised at how nice the High Line was. We started at the end with the Shed. It was cool to see the Red tree at the beginning of it. There were a large variety of plants and lots of tree along the way. A lot greener than what I expected. It was a lovely walk. There are lots of places to stop and sit if you so desire. We exited out at Chelsea market and had fun exploring there.Visited June 2023Written July 25, 2023
- flo220New York City, New York349 contributionsOne of the best parks in NYOne of the best parks in NYC, we have gone there often. Fun to see the foliage in the different seasons and the art that is in the park changes often. Also good for getting your steps in since it is really a walking park (all paved -- one path can't get lost.) Free but check their hours.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten July 27, 2023
- Aine G3 contributionsHighly recommendedReally worth doing when in NY, a lovely elevated view through a really nice part of the city. Was busy when we did it but were away from cars, traffic lights etc. Beautiful greenery and flowers along the way and lots of places to eat. We had a lovely lunch in Chelsea marketVisited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten July 28, 2023
- LS_GoingPlacesGreensboro, North Carolina224 contributionsOutside beauty in NYCWhat a wonderful addition to all that is NYC. Great walking place for sight seeing and people watching and to just be outside surrounded by plants, flowers and plenty of seating. There are some food/drink options as well. I'd recommend it and if you have small kids, it's a great place to let them run around and get rid of that pent up energy.Visited August 2023Written August 6, 2023
- Sally ETel Aviv, Israel34 contributionsThe magnificent High LineMy daughter, her friend and I were entranced by the lush vegetation on the High Line, and spied buzzing bees and many varieties of butterflies during our walk from Penn Station to 14th Street. We explored the island made of old wharves, and continued on to the Whitney Museum just across the street. The history of this park is compelling, showing that an old horse can definitely be taught new tricks, and the residential housing being built around this lovely walkway is cleverly done. Definitely a must see when you are in NYC.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 6, 2023

- TrainsFanNew York City, New York103 contributionsGood tripThis is a nice walk along old railroad tracks and trees for the scenery. You start at West 15th street and go all the way to West 30th street. Spectacular buildings along the way and benches to stop and rest. The Vessel is at the end but was closed.Visited August 2023Written August 14, 2023
- Harry ALong Island, New York107 contributionsAmazing way to see NYCThe high line is an abandoned elevated railroad track that was transformed into a park. What a great idea! It was a beautiful walk, they did an excellent job building the park. Plenty of nice benches and places to sit, nice trees and plants throughout the park, and lots of interesting vendors along the way to stop and see. The park goes thru a really nice area of Manhattan with plenty of cool buildings to see, and a beautiful view of the Hudson. Lots of nice art installations along the way, too. Only complaint: the park is very narrow (I mean, it’s a railroad track), so it can get crowded pretty quick. Highly recommend walking the high line. What a great way to see NYC!Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten August 31, 2023
- Bogdan2005Bucharest, Romania478 contributionsBeautiful urban restructuring and revivalSince our visit to New York, the municipality implemented this amazing project - a former high train line transformed into a fully green promenade of 4 km or so. This is an amazing urban restructuring and revival project which offers beautiful views over Greenwich Village and some others and attracts thousands of daily walkers. A great idea and implementation of this project, a true pleasure for us as visitorsVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 2, 2023

Up above the hustle & bustle of NYC, this offers the tranquility one does not expect in such a vibrant city. Well worth a wander.

Great walk from Gansevoort Street to Hudson Yards. The first part of the High Line was nice and quiet, it gets more busy along the way.
I would recommend to dice a little bit in the history of the elevated park/walkway. Also very cool to still see some of the train tracks - and eve points - still present in the park.

We had read a lot about the High Line (repurposed railway tracks) but it's another thing to see it and walk it. During some down time, we actually found the starting point to the High Line but the signage wasn't well placed and we ended up walking in the wrong direction. On our last day in New York, we returned and actually found the right trail. We enjoyed the sights, the greenery and the fresh air. There appeared to be plenty of staff tending to the plants, and giving tours. We walked the length of the trail and back. Definitely a nice thing to do while in New York.

Definitely worth doing this walk, totally beautiful, you see a different side to New York City, highly recommend, we did it in July on a very hot sunny day, and there’s lots of shady areas and seats to have a little rest.

Cale was our guide. We learned a lot about the history of the High Line and of New York city aswell.
Cale is very friendly, punctual, open to any questions.
The free walk over the High Line park would have been nice and beautiful. But the guided tour is better and most interesting!

Former elevated train line that has been converted into a great urban greenspace. This can be an enjoyable stroll, but it has become a popular experience for visitors to the city and I find it overly crowded with tourists and simply not worth the hype. Maybe early morning before the crowds build would be a different experience.

This was an unexpected treat whilst on holiday in New York. It is lovely to be amongst nature in the very heart of the city. The sculptures punctuate the plants, shrubs and flowers. They appear to be rotated regularly so this walk can be enjoyed again and again.

We saw the Highline for the first time last Friday. This is a pedestrian zone, a walking path on an old elevated railway line, setup like a park. There are elevators and other ways to get onto the walking path. This activity is free.
My wife and I walked a bit, then found seats on a bench to engage in people watching. We had a great time. It is a very attractive, pleasant space.
We would try this again, to explore on a longer walk.

Walk towards it. It roughly parallels 10th Ave, and is between 13th st and 30th st. Look for overhead line in greenish gray support strxr. You can climb stairs acess it every block or two. You can incorporate a visit to Meatpacking District, Circle Line Tours, Hudson Yards upscale shopping mall or Chelsea Mkt and breakfast or see old dock where Titanic survivors diembarked from the Carpathea.

Alcuni spazi all'ombra ci sono.... ma gran parte e' al sole. Ti consiglio sicuramente di andarci la sera a fare una passeggiata. Considera pero' che a una certa ora viene chiusa, mi pare alle 23. 00.
