About
Chelsea Market is a world-famous food hall in the heart of New York City's Meatpacking District. Commonly featured in walking and food tours, the market has an array of dining options that draw both locals and travelers. Set aside a couple of hours to conquer the corridors of this sprawling indoor marketplace. Many travelers load up on fresh produce, prime cuts of meat, artisanal cheeses, and even imported Italian dry goods. For more elbow room, visit either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Plus, keep a lookout for delicious free samples and the quaint bookstore on site. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Chelsea
Home to hundreds of art galleries, beautiful brownstones, and one of New York’s newest and most popular attractions, Chelsea is one of the city’s jewels when it comes to neighbourhood life. The contemporary art scene is an integral part of the neighbourhood’s identity, with gallery openings almost every night of the week and countless exhibits to explore. As a longtime hub of gay culture in New York City, it’s also a diverse district with a vibrant nightlife scene. The opening of the High Line, an abandoned elevated train track transformed into a world-class pedestrian park, gave this neighbourhood new life as a tourist destination. The High Line provides visitors with a tranquil, elevated space with incomparable views, providing an unparalleled way to experience the city.

Worth a Visit for the Architectural History Alone
Lovely architecture / renovation - worth it just to see the building... and that's free. It was worth getting inside for an hour or so just to get out of the heat and humidity! After that you can spend as much or as little as you want in the plentiful shops and restaurants. Did buy a few bits and pieces and got a drink from a cafe. but that was it, wasn't an expensive trip. Walked down from Hudsons Yard via the High Line to get there - recommend that route as it was a pleasant stroll

    Great Food Selections
Every kind of food imaginable offered here. We enjoyed delicious Taiwanese noodle soup and a beer. Lots of options for even the pickiest of eaters. And there's a nice outdoor space available to sit and take your time eating while people watching, The building itself is also amazing to look at. Some may say it's a tourist trap but see it for what it is - a beautiful building full of food options.

    What a wonderful world
What a wonderful place. Full of little shops, ( most of the staff they sell is from china) cozy, young colorful people full of life and joy . Dozens of places to eat. Exorbitant prices even for new York. I loved it.

Great tour of the Chelsea Market
The Chelsea Market continues to change everytime that I go there. We went for a tour of the market with my class at NYU and it had changed as well as was the same market I first visited in 2002. It has the most interesting set of restaurants that continue to change. Some of the original restaurants are still there but the biggest problem is that they are so expensive. It is such a festive place and the decorations were really nice. The unusual fountain is still there and the Christmas lights in a arch keeps the market festive. It was fun to walk around and the place was packed. I wondered through the rows of places to eat and I settled on Sarabeth's Bakery which I had been to uptown restaurants and they were always good. The tuna sandwich I had was top notch. It was fun seeing the changes and what is available. It is a great place to visit when you are visiting Manhattan.

Awesome place on a sunny day - Stroll to Hudson River
Lucky I researched thia place in London. Otherwise, I would not have found it. A splendid dining and spot to chill and buy souvenirs. Liked it so much that I bought a Chelsea Market umbrella as a souvenir. Good stroll to the Hudson River too, and in the Meat Packing District with high end shops.

    Whatever Food You Want!
I would have enjoyed the experience more if it hadn't been so packed w/ people, but that's what I get for going at lunch time on a holiday week-end! We had Taiwanese Beef Noodles at a Noodle Place and they were reasonably priced, and the serving was too generous to finish. My daughter and I could have split it. So many markets from pastries to desserts, plus gift shops. I'm glad we went!

    Exciting Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market is an exciting place to go. We visited and spent several hours just walking and looking around and having fun! There many shops of all descriptions, from meat shops, to grocery shops, fresh produce, and the all important "tourist" type of shops! And of course there are food shops, restaurants and bars! We walked the High Line and at the end of it walked straight into Chelsea Market. Not to be missed on any visit to the city!

    Never Gets Old
I love this market - there are a million food options. Asian, tahini soft serve, sweet like fudge, italian, burgers...I could keep going. Everything is high quality and I think the prices are quite reasonable given the location. They also have some fun clothing and grocery shopping if you want to bring something home. I think this is a must do if vacationing in NYC.

    Oyster shooters
Nice historic building, worth a visit by tourists, as an add on to taking a walk along the High Line. Good option for Brekky or lunch. Easily accessible via the subway and a very short walk to the High Line. The oyster bar had a good selection of seafood, and we went the oyster shooters. Very good, particularly the Tequila based one. A nice pick me up before the long walk ahead.

Where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced
This former Nabisco factory complex invented and produced the famed Oreo cookie . The old building was gutted out in the 90s and transformed into a market that is alive and well. It can get crowded quickly so try to go on the off hours when they open in the morning or after lunch.

We ended up going here twice. The first time we walked through and looked around and thought it was fun and had some funky spots. the second time we found ourselves back in the area for a boat tour and stopped back in to eat at the Los Tacos restaurant that we had seen before.

I had read about Chelsea Market in a guidebook and thought it would be an interesting place to visit. On our last day in town, we stumbled upon it while walking the Highline. This is definitely the type of cool, unique, local place we like to visit in each city. Some of the stores weren't yet open, but we did pop into some and my wife found a particular toothbrush she was looking for in a Japanese-themed store (sorry, forgot the name). The food hall looked great, too, but we had already had breakfast. I would love to come back one day.

Free to enter the building and walk around. Lots of different shops as well as the food hall. So many options I wanted to try it all. Opted for pizza, bagel, tacos & some doughnuts between myself & my 2 children. All were fabulous. Hoping to go back and try something different if time allows on our trip

Went to the Chelsea Market for brunch and had a magnificent experience visiting all the different stores and eateries. Had tasty Taco’s at Los Tacos and delicious Lobster and Prawns at the Lobster Place. Many quaint and small stores to visit with a fantastic atmosphere.

I wouldn't typically include an indoor market on my list of must-see attractions, but accompanying friends to Chelsea Market proved to be an unexpected delight. As we strolled through this historic building, I was impressed with the visual old-world appeal.

The market is in a building that dates back to 1890. There are colorful displays, aromatic food stalls, and the bustling energy of shoppers and curious people.

Our brief visit left me wishing for more time to fully experience all the market has to offer. I recommend this if you looking for something beyond skyscrapers and tours.

The Chelsea Market was seriously an unexpected highlight to this trip. My daughter and I were absolutely thrilled being there. Great local artisans and wonderful food. We overheard someone say it was extremely crowded when we were there, a local perhaps. It didn’t feel crowded. Lots to do, taste and experience. We bought all souvenirs there. This market is definitely a must!

My wife and I walked around Chelsea Market for a couple of hours during lunchtime in June 2024. It was an enjoyable experience. We had sandwiches at Sarabeth’s Bakery and then got gelato from a gelato place. There were many shops and places to eat. I liked a bookstore near the gelato place. I think Chelsea Market is a very worthwhile place to visit.

We stopped here whilst walking along the high line. Lots of artisan shops and places to get food or drinks. Great for a break on the high line, which doesn't have places for food or drink.
