The #EU has adopted a new regulation on #packaging and packaging waste, and the Norwegian Environment Agency is working on changes to the Norwegian producer responsibility scheme. Marit Kvalvåg Pettersen from Nofima will attend the Norwegian Arendalsuka in mid-August, the most important event in Norway where politicians meet with industry, academia, NGOs, and others to discuss packaging and the new EU regulations on packaging – one of the main focuses of the MICROORC project. In this year's program, Marit Kvalvåg Pettersen will be involved in a panel debate alongside the Norwegian Minister of Climate. About us
Horizon Europe Project MICROORC will develop emerging technologies such as dynamic shelf-life labeling and microbiome-based protection technologies to increase food quality, increase shelf life and reduce food waste. MICROORC - Orchestrating Food System Microbiomes to Minimize Food Waste, started on November 1st, 2023, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program under Grant Agreement N° 101136248. The tools and technologies developed in MICROORC are positioned at a high level of research and innovation (R&I) maturity and are expected to achieve TRL6-7 by the end of the project.

Vi har skumle bakterier og nyttige bakterier🧫 Hvordan kan vi spille på lag med disse bakteriene for å kaste mindre mat? Bakterieekspert Solveig Langsrud har lært meg nyttige triks for å kaste mindre mat - og samtidig unngå å bli dårlig av maten: 🍉Vask meloner før du legger de inn i kjøleskapet - der kan det fort vokse listeria 🧊Skru ned kjøleskapstemperaturen så varer maten lengre 🥬Grønnsaker som vokser i eller opp av jorden bør vaskes ekstra nøye. Salat bør vaskes nøyere enn tomater 🍖Kjøttpålegg som er gått ut på dato kan du varmebehandle ved å f eks hive det i omeletten ☀️På varme sommerdager må man være ekstra obs på å sette rester raskt inn i kjøleskapet. 📍Denne uka har vi vært i København for å finne ut av hvordan vi kan bruke bakterier for å redusere matsvinn. Å bekjempe de skumle bakteriene kan bety at vi kan forlenge holdbarheten til kylling og laks💪🏻 Kanskje klarer vi å bytte ut syntetiske konserveringsmidler med naturlige🌿Ved å spille på lag med bakteriene🫱🏻🫲🏼 Dette er noe av det vi forsøker å løse i EU-prosjektet MICROORC Visste du om disse tipsene? First day of the second MICROORC general assembly meeting in the nice city of Copenhagen 🏙 MICROORC's a consortium of a very diverse bunch of people with different expertise thinking about reducing food waste and spoilage 🦠 Not surprisingly all of us are looking through different glasses 👓 to that problem. Does that make it challenging? Sure. Could we've walked an easier path? Probably. Is this the best approach to eventually tackle this problem? Hell yeah! 😎

In our quest for consumer-driven date mark labeling, we're connecting #consumer acceptance with microbiome and sensory profiles across Norway, Portugal and Hungary.
