Powerful Coffee. Powerful Impact.

About us

POWERFUL COFFEE = POWERFUL IMPACT We make deliciously strong coffee with a kick! Blue Turaco is the first coffee brand in the UK that is owned by an African farmer; we’re proud of that. And even prouder of our Robusta coffee; it’s strong, smooth and naturally contains double the caffeine of Arabica – quite the kick-start to your day. Blue Turaco founder, Wycliffe, is a coffee farmer. He picked coffee beans as a boy to pay for his school fees so he knows how growing quality coffee improves livelihoods in farming communities. We bring you 100% specialty Robusta, sourced directly from Ugandan smallholder farmers including our own. And 20p from every pack provides two school lunches, helping fight hunger in Ugandan village schools. Our vision is to create a model where coffee truly pays in farming communities. Let’s go! Ask people for help! We enjoyed listening to Bay Burdett, Simas Jarasunas, Noor Ali and our very own Wycliffe Sande talk about working with supermarkets as a small brand at the Bread & Jam festival yesterday. We sat on the front row - unashamed groupies. The overriding lesson of the day: Ask for help! People are more willing than you expect. Help can be: - an introduction - an ear - sharing some experience - sharing information - or feedback - or advice - a like or a share of a post - buying our coffee (ok, we added that one) We all feel good when we can helps. Ask for it. Give it. Enjoy it. Happy sunny Thursday evening ☀️ Let’s go! 💙 But seriously, if you did want to buy some coffee, you can get 15% of your first order - link in comments >>> #community #robusta #specialtycoffee #startup

Founder at Blue Turaco Coffee - Championing Ugandan Specialty Robusta: Making coffee accessible, empowering small-holder coffee farmers, and fighting childhood hunger through coffee and wildlife safaris

You won't believe this, but I met him face to face. Yes, we even had filter coffee together. Last Friday was a huge day for me, one that has been five years in the making. The week had started off with some disappointing news about the cancellation of the Birmingham Coffee Festival. I was going to give a talk there on the specialty robusta revolution. So you can imagine my excitement when James Hoffmann said yes to meeting on Friday the 5th. I went into overdrive with excitement. And for a good reasons For those into tech, your dream person to meet might be Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. For me, there are a few legends in the specialty coffee world I’ve always wanted to meet, have a coffee with and talk about how we can change the coffee world together, for the better. Last Friday, I met one of them. A special, pinch-me moment. I was humbled and way too excited to meet you, James Hoffmann Thank you, Barney😜 Mauleverer for making this happen (more on this another time). I’m an outsider in the UK coffee scene; I’m a smallholder farmer (you don’t get many of those living this side of the equator), and I’m championing specialty robusta (when the specialty coffee market has been focused on arabica - for better part of last 3 decades. So, there are a few people in this industry I am keen to meet. People like you, yes you have an important key part in helping more customers access specialty and premium robusta and myself and BLUE TURACO COFFEE team are eager to make this happen. This, in turn, will impact millions of smallholder coffee farmers in Uganda and world over. No-one gets anywhere alone. Collaboration is what we need - in fact it could be the BIGGEST single thing to Make the biggest difference! So I’ll be reaching out. I hear your fears and worries, but I have a solution to those worries and fears. If you see my name in your DMs, it means you mean something to the robusta revolution. James, I learned so much during our chat, and I can't wait to meet again and again. Thank you.. You turned what was looking like a challenging week into a great one. Ps: lets connect if we are not yet Wycliffe Sande - I talk about speciality robusta coffees sustainability, smallholder farmer issues fighting hunger through coffee #metjameshoffman #blueturacocoffee #foundermeetups #collabrations

That's what we thought! We came across the Rory Wynn's work at the London Coffee Festival and thought "we think we might get on". 💪 STRONG COFFEE That's what we do! 💙 Blue Turaco naturally contains nearly twice the caffeine of most coffees. ☕ It's because we use pure Robusta beans, which naturally contain more caffeine than Arabica ones. ☀ A very efficient way to get your morning kick! 🤓 A little Friday Trivia for you. As well as keeping us alert, the caffeine in coffee cherries help protect them from pests too. Clever. Happy Friday from the Blue Turaco Team. ..... 🔔 For 15% off your first order - sign up via the link in the comments.

📣 WAKEY WAKEY - we think you might be sleeping on something * 40% of the world's coffee is Robusta. But no-one knows it. People have heard of its cousin, Arabica - most specialty coffees are Arabica-based so you see it more on coffee packaging, Robusta, on the other hand, has been invisible - grown to scale and low quality and hidden away in blends to give body. No longer! Here's why waking up to Robusta feels GOOD: 💪 It's STRONG Naturally contains 2x the caffeine of arabica - coffee with a kick. 🌍 It's CLIMATE RESILIENT Grows faster, takes up less land and it's a hardier crop. ☕ It's SMOOTH High-quality Robusta tastes remarkably, deliciously smooth. So! Will you join the Robusta Revolution? Sign up to get 15% off your first bag. Link in comments. Everyone likes to try something new - even if it has been around for 100s of years. 💙 Let's go!
