Ranchi: Govt schools across Jharkhand have planted around one lakh saplings under the state education and literacy department’s ‘Mission Life,’ initiative launched on June 2. The move was aimed at turning school campuses green and setting up model kitchen gardens across 5,153 schools. Such gardens will become the source of vegetables and medicinal plants which will be used in preparing mid-day meals for students.
The schools have taken up the challenge to plant five lakh trees this year, with each school having specific targets based on their level. Primary schools are required to plant a minimum of 10 saplings, while middle schools and high schools are expected to plant 20 and 30 saplings, respectively.
State project director Aditya Ranjan said, "We have provided comprehensive guidelines and funding support to ensure the success of this initiative." Ranjan said plans are in place to recognize and reward schools that demonstrate outstanding contributions to environmental conservation. "
